Just like with Cpt Li Shang, Honghui is probably lowkey bi and had a thing for Hua Jun before knowing he was really a she. Regardless, we need to see more of them.

До этого не хотела смотреть это кино. Но потом поразилась тому, насколько оно сильное. На фоне всего этого, хоть и не открыто, но происходит некая связь между Хонхеем и Мулан. Видно, как он сначала уверяет её в своей верности ей, как товарищу, поддержке. Он верит в её способности, искренне старается стать другом. И вскоре он действительно становится особо значимым для неё. Осознание того, что она, женщина, показала себя таким отважным воином, только делает крепче веру в неё. Он готов следовать её плану, её указаниям. В конце, когда её восхваляет император, он смотрит на неё с восхищённой улыбкой. Она пытается уйти, не попрощавшись. Здесь то, мне кажется, он не может скрыть своих чувств именно к ней, как к девушке, и просит на прощание хотя бы рукопожатие, на что она робко соглашается. Я думаю было очень интересно увидеть вторую часть фильма. Музыка кстати классно подобрана к видео. Думаю добавить в свой плейлист)

I think disney won't admit to him being a homosexual character because they don't want to offend China given that heterosexual relationships outside of marriage were frowned upon, so it was a very homophobic society too.. I think the character admires Hua Jun for 'his' bravery and courage. So many have mentioned that he saw her get dressed but in the clip she gets dressed before he sees anything etc. He's attracted to Hua Juns determination and is shocked she's a girl and I think relieved too because something could happen between them

Z Z in the cartoon version of mulan it was said that shang is bi because he had something to bing (mulan) but it wasn’t true because as a commander he admired one of his soldiers courage too nothing else
I thought the movie was FANTASTIC. I watched it twice in one day. I never do that. Maybe you're just too attached to the first version. The 2020 version follows more of the old folklore than the cartoon did.
