Planting potatoes in deep mulch, Ruth Stout method but in woodchips like Back To Eden method

  • I plant potatoes on the surface of the soil, no digging! But I have to cover them with a lot of mulch to keep the sun off them.
    This is something like the Ruth Stout method, but instead of straw we are covering them with a thick layer of wood chips.
    There are many benefits to this method: less watering, less digging, and in an established garden, this can be done with no additional inputs.

    can i plant potatoes here in south texas now, temps is in 90s now

      If you can put down a really heavy thick mulch that blocks out the sun and heat, and you give it some water beforehand and let things cool down, I think now would be a good time as it might give you taters by October.
      The secret is that thick mulch cooling the soil down.
