Saving a Braun coffee grinder mill from the scrap bin! Electric motor with a seized bearing repair.

  • This vintage Braun coffee grinder has had a reasonably long & productive life and was going well until suffering a range of abuse in Christine's kitchen!! 🤣Alas, the chalk hit the fan (blades) during one dramatic grinding session and it was about to be thrown into the electric motor scrap bin! But wait, I think I can save it! (cue uplifting music.... 🎶🎵)

    i now have a working coffee grinder. 99 cents at the second hand store so even if it doesnt work for long its still useful. I had to bend the tabs back pretty far to fit the bushing back in, and then used pliers to squeeze them back together. it doesnt have any play so hopefully it is secure enough. THanks so much for the video.

      @@TheUltimateRecycler Well, I had taken the blade off quite some time ago and hadn’t thought of plugging it in to see if it runs so I did today. Works great! Put the blade back on. Won’t run. Shook it and a bracket fell out. Now it won’t work either way. Lol! The issue is that it doesn’t come apart at the bottom. It seems pressed together or glued where the metal band meets the black, lower portion of the housing. Any idea how to get it apart without breaking it?

I had the same problem with the bushings (it made fine sugar out of raw sugar) but I forgot how I dismantled the anti-parasitic filter (resistor and capacitor in the video)... these are mounted between the wires coming from the socket in the house (brown and blue wire) or are they on one wire? two blue cables come out of the grinder... thank you in advance

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  7 месяцев назад +1

      Just jarring it with a hammer like in the video, and maybe leaving it soak overnight with some penetrating lube. Nope, I wouldn't heat it - at least not very hot anyways. Small localised heat wouldn't hurt but not on the copper windings.

  • @chuck1804

    Great video, thanks! Totally new to this repair game, it would be helpful to know what kinds of lube/grease are and aren't appropriate for these little tasks. Penetrating oil I have for bicycle maintenance, but what is the generic "grease" you are using at the end? Presumably WD40 would not be the smartest choice here... Thanks again!

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  Год назад +1

      Thanks Chuck! 😊 I usually try and mention what lube I use and why. I think the grease is just a universal type bearing grease. WD40 isn't a good lube, especially for long term use as it dries out quite quickly.
