Can't go wrong with Turon and Banana-Q. :) Yes, Dr. Jose Rizal was a polymath and a polyglot. He was also an Opthalmologist. That's how he met his common-law wife Josephine Bracken (Irish descent) when she and her adoptive father traveled to the Philippines to have his eyes treated by Dr. Rizal. Dr. Rizal has also traveled to different countries in Europe including your country, England. The Rizal Monument in Luneta is also his final resting place. His skeletal remains are beneath it. It's guarded 24/7 by the Philippine Marines. He also has numerous monuments and memorials both here and abroad including in London at the Beckett family residence where he stayed. He wrote two novels - 'Noli Me Tangere' and its sequel 'El Filibusterismo' - that critiqued the Spanish oppression which awakened Filipino nationalism and sparked the revolution against Spain. The novels were quite controversial and ultimately led to his execution. In 'Noli Me Tangere', the character Maria Clara - the fiance of the lead protagonist Crisostomo Ibarra - was actually fathered by Padre Damaso, a priest!
Thanks for such an interesting account of Jose Rizal's life and achievements. It's incredible he was such a renaissance man. I could sense the respect and admiration the Filipino people had for him. We saw his resting place in Luneta. His memory will certainly live on indefinitely in The Philippines. 🙏❤️

Great videos! I have a love-hate relationship with the Philippines (having been several times). I love the culture, the warm, friendly people, and stunning nature and beaches. However, I honestly did not like the food at all as I don't eat meat (except seafood once in a while). I've been to Luzon, Visayas, Negros and just really didn't find many healthy options. Definitely my least favorite food in SE Asia.
I know exactly what you mean, Edmundo. That's something I address in these videos, as we travelled to the Philippines 2½ months after I had a single mastectomy, and I was trying to stick to a vegan diet but struggled to even find vegetarian options. It's unfortunate that there are so many amazing tropical fruits but the prices are high, and that unli white rice is often eaten for 3 meals per day. Having said that, I would definitely race back to the Philippines if the opportunity came up 🇵🇭♥️
That sounds delicious, Nene, and I think we show it in a Binondo l/Chinatown video coming up in a couple of weeks 😋🤗 I love the way everyone had a slightly different version of their vinegar... all so delicious 🇵🇭♥️
@@FrugalTravellers They taste almost the same if you cook them the Filipino way. Lentils and split beans are also faster to cook than green monggo. Green monggo to be considered cooked, you need to wait for their skin to peel off.
Philippines could have been one of those spice islands but not. Bland no spices in their food with lots of MSG. Filipinos have a sweet tooth and Dunkin Donuts of Philippines is the record holder for most donuts sold from a single restaurant. For the best food in Manila, find Indonesian restaurants.
That's so interesting, SilverBack, re: the Dunkin Donuts restaurant! I wonder if the lack of spices is due to the Spanish colonial influence, as sometimes they don't use a lot of spice?
We don't like too much spices. Besides I don't like too much spices you get stomach upset with that. Chinese use msg in their food dah! Of course we have sweet tooth because we have sugarcane. Hello! If your country is just importing sugar of course your deserts are bland. I don't like Indonesian food!!!! Don't insist to us what you like.

Having said that, I would definitely race back to the Philippines if the opportunity came up 🇵🇭♥️
there is actually a vegetarian restaurant there in chinatown. forgot the name tho
Thank you for this 🙏. They are hard to come by. 👍
Lumpia and vinegar with garlic
That sounds delicious, Nene, and I think we show it in a Binondo l/Chinatown video coming up in a couple of weeks 😋🤗 I love the way everyone had a slightly different version of their vinegar... all so delicious 🇵🇭♥️
wait,. what!? P300 pesos for lunch?? for two???
Yes! We found some great places in Manila... unless you think that was expensive?
it's not green lentils, it's mung beans or called mungo beans
Thank you, Pidok Jacob. I realise that in a later video when mongo becomes one of my favourite healthy options 🤗😁
@@FrugalTravellers You can also cook lentils and split beans like the way we cook monggo beans. The leaves we add is either moringa or chili leaves.
@rudyramones9003 That's so interesting, thank you. I'm sure they're as delicious as monggo.
@@FrugalTravellers They taste almost the same if you cook them the Filipino way. Lentils and split beans are also faster to cook than green monggo. Green monggo to be considered cooked, you need to wait for their skin to peel off.
finally, someone solved the sim card situation. yoou can buy it anywhere not just in airports and malls.
Hello Gerard. Yes, it confused us at first until we realised the 2 different steps involved, and then we're really happy with our Go plan
Rizal was delegated by the Americans as a national hero, not by the Filipinos.
That's so interesting. Thank you for sharing this information.
@@pinkvelvet3865 That's a good point... each to their own tastes 🤗
Hello, if you want to see some contrast to the places you've gone to, I would recommend you guys go to Makati City or BGC. These are the business districts of Manila; they are highly developed modern cities, but they are no more near as affordable than the places you've been to.
Thank you so much for sharing this greatinformation, Charles. If you keep watching, our last few Manila videos show our Makati experiences. They'll be posted in approx 6 weeks 🤗🇵🇭♥️
