I worked with Sinead on a radio broadcast in 1991. She was quietly fierce, unashamedly challenging and perfectly imperfect as an interviewee.....and just breathtakingly beautiful! The resulting programme and the photo we took at the end of the night with Sinead and our crew both showed that she was an incredible artist, disrupter and woman. You know it's not right to dismiss mental illness as "perfectly imperfect" especially when it impacts children. There's nothing shameful about being mentally ill and that's exactly why people should get help for it like any other condition. How can they do so when people pretend there's nothing wrong?
This song and video are so iconic. The way she looks into the camera and also looks down and the video just focusing on her face expressing genuine vulnerability and emotion and then the melody and lyrics just all combine to make such a great work of art that will live on and touch hearts forever. Meh, shredding a likeness of Mohammed on stage during a live national broadcast - that would have been brave ... the leader of a religion whose tenets include: 'Love thy enemies', 'Forgive others' and ' Turn the other cheek' - not so much. Still, this is a great song ( a fav of mine, actually) and a very moving video. Beautiful art. It is sad she passed away at a relatively young age.

Prince wrote this song. I think everyone is simply reminded of when Sinead & Prince fought. Sinead O’Connor & Prince - The Fight They Had In Los Angeles This is from Far Out Magazine in 2021. While most young and impressionable singers would likely do anything to impress Prince, O’Connor has always been an outlier, and her fiery Irish nature stops her from being submissive. “We tried to beat each other up,” O’Connor told Good Morning Britain in 2019. “This is not a joke, it was a really frightening experience. It was in LA, he summoned me to his house and foolishly I went along. He was uncomfortable that I wasn’t his protégé and he wanted me to be. He was wanting me to be a protégé of his and ordered that I don’t swear in my interviews. I told him where he could go”. According to O’Connor, the mood changed after this comment, and then the situation descended into violence: “He went upstairs and got a pillow and he had something hard in the pillow. I ran out of his house, hiding behind a tree,” she claimed. “We meet on the highway in Malibu at five in the morning - I’m spitting at him, he’s trying to punch me. I had to go ring someone’s doorbell, which my father always told me to do if I was in a situation like that”.
Had this played at my Mum's funeral. Also got a tattoo of it on my right wrist and a freesia above it, her favourite flower My world fell apart when I lost my Mum❤
There has never been a more genuine show of absolute raw emotion in a video than this one…which is why it is the best music video of all time. Rest in Peace Sinead x

Definitely not a pure soul. She was borderline personality. These people are monsters to deal with. She’s really singing about how she’s treated others 🤦🏼♂️😬
@@andrewpegman7959Sinead wasn’t borderline, that’s a personality disorder. Borderlines don’t choose to have a personality disorder. Stop spreading stigma! Sinead was diagnosed with a ‘mood disorder’ bipolar.
lol she said Ireland was better off under British rule, and that the ROI should be disbanded. She was a good singer but she was nuts and most of her opinions were insane. I mean she called out the Catholic church and organized religion, but then converted to Islam, I mean wtf.
@@cyborgdurden5720 Context is everything and her comments were in relation to a choice of being colonised by Britain or effectively being colonised by the Catholic Church. If someone asks you if you would prefer a dead arm or a kick in the balls, choosing a dead arm does not by default mean you think that is a good thing and only the least worst option. All religion is nonsense anyway, so I am with you on not understanding why she chose to convert to Islam, but totally understand why she left the Catholic Church, And I say that as an atheist with a mind of my own, despite being christened as a Catholic via the choice of my parents.
With all respect, I don't believe she was defeated. Her soul and convictions were too strong for that. The world wasn't ready for the likes of her. May she progress in peace.
@@tlaloc210I agree with you. She defeated the world with her truth, and the world/media tried to shut her up. I believe if her son never died, she would still be with us💜
Hard hard hard line to tow, to speak up against evil. She refused to be silenced for that she payed…but the cost of not speaking up is death. She did as Christ did…I pray she at one time believed that God is a good God, a God that so loved the world that he gave his only son to die on the cross for all our sins and to DEFEAT evil. May she be with the angels now…for she was a saint for the ‘least of these’. God be with her family may they know His comfort as they mourn. 🙏👆🏼♥️
I agree, Sinead, an artist of incomparable bravery, a true trailblazer!! She never compromised her beliefs or her heart! So, so sad you are gone now, Sinead!! I loved Sinead from the first moment I heard her sing so long ago.

Prince didn't write this song for her. He wrote it and recorded it with a group known as The Family in 1985. Sinéad later covered it for her sophomore album. Sinéad's version was spectacular. She sang it so beautifully. I think most people will remember Sinéad's version better. She really made it her own with her magic and voice. May she RIP 🙏❤️

everyone gave her hell for tearing the picture of the pope but she was completely right about the church’s abuse both sexually and physically! no one believed her till it came to light.
.. Sinéad took the picture of the pope from the wall in her mother's bedroom.. She was very angry and very hurt on both the catholic church and her mother.. All because of child abuse.. Sinéad wanted it out in public and that night on the telly was her chance..
Famous for a song that isn't even good? No she was famous for speaking out against the globalists that still control the media/catholic church etc today. Trump Won

Wrong. The original was so much better. The string orchestration and saxophone alone gave it so much more depth along with the St. Paul's and Susanna's vocals.
This music, and her voice, has touched so many - myself included. It felt so powerful that I played it loud from the rooftop over the small town. People opened their windows and sang along with full hearts, even in the middle of the night. It’s yet another sign that her music will carry on for generations. Thank you for this incredible music ❤

Do right by the animals who don't have voices can't speak up and defend themselves. The trillions of animals who are abused, tortured, killed and experience deep pain abd suffering in animal agriculture, which is also causing climate changing, increasing the risk of pandemics, and creating a product that's harmul to health and increases risk of cancer and heart disease. Do the right thing, go vegan and eat a sustainable, ethical, healthy plant-based diet.
I remember being in my sophomore year of high school, and picking up a CD of an unknown artist named Sinead O’Connor. I stared at the CD case for so many hours. Her eyes were hypnotic and was a classic, natural, beauty. Yet, she as punk rock and rebellious as they come. I had never heard anything like her, and I thought she was so talented with a powerful voice, and even more powerful lyrics. She did not fit the pop princess type and certainly never tried to be that. She often spoke about injustices and was marked for it. Consequently, record labels did not want to represent her. I admired her tenacity in the causes that were important to her. She was one of the few people that were so outspoken to talk about all the sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. I was so incredibly sad to hear of her passing. She had many struggles throughout her life, especially losing her beloved son, Shane last year. I’m afraid that she never was able to get over that. Rest in peace beautiful Sinead. I hope you and Shane are together now ❤

Meh, shredding a likeness of Mohammed on stage during a live national broadcast - that would have been brave ... the leader of a religion whose tenets include:

Prince wrote this song.
I think everyone is simply reminded of when Sinead & Prince fought.
Sinead O’Connor & Prince - The Fight They Had In Los Angeles
This is from Far Out Magazine in 2021.
Yes! Thank you for reminding everyone that Prince did write this song

🙏🏾
@@cyborgdurden5720 Context is everything and her comments were in relation to a choice of being colonised by Britain or effectively being colonised by the Catholic Church.
If someone asks you if you would prefer a dead arm or a kick in the balls, choosing a dead arm does not by default mean you think that is a good thing and only the least worst option.
All religion is nonsense anyway, so I am with you on not understanding why she chose to convert to Islam, but totally understand why she left the Catholic Church,
And I say that as an atheist with a mind of my own, despite being christened as a Catholic via the choice of my parents.

She was never defeated, she fought and never compromised.

Très très belle chanson et très belle chanteuse
