BMW 335i - how to install aftermarket FMIC

  • Following the ECU flash, I observed much higher IAT's during pulls. High IAT's are dangerous, among other things they are the reason of the timing corrections which limit the performance - in critical situations they can result in limp mode and leave the car inoperable. For that reason, intake air temperature needs to be lowered. There are several ways to do this, but the cheapest and the most effective is to install bigger than factory intercooler.
    This video shows the process of the installation of the aftermarket, 6" intercooler that is twice the volume of the oem, 4.3" one. Some cutting, some welding was needed, but nothing major.
    Intercooler was imported and installed by SSGarage, professional tuner from Warsaw, Poland.
    You can look them up at ssgarage.pl.
    Soon, I will post a video with the log analysis and you'll see, why the aftermarket intercooler is the first mod you should ever do to your car.

    That cheap ebay one is a PITA to diy with jack stands. Not only it requires cutting plastic, but it also doesn't fit height wise and depth-wise. Get a good reputable one with least amount of cutting. Plus, this thing is too heavy. You can't do it by yourself. I somehow managed to fit it, but it couldn't be pushed towards front so that the piping didn't align straight with the chargepipe and the ascending pipe on the cold side.

      +Jal Daruwalla nah, all stock. I have a xdrive 335, hence the front diff you noticed. All stock (for now).

    Is this the VRSF? I was gonna go with it but there's another youtube video mentioning the poor quality. I don't care how pretty it looks as long as it performs.

    • @OneMonster

      +RLflix no, it's a cheap eBay fmic, half the price of the vrsf. Works very well indeed, vrsf could be better, but this one works for me. Vrsf FMICs have a rather good reputation.

    Did you log your inlet temperature with MHD before and after? Do you maybe have some full pull logs available in datazap.me? Really interested how this performs. Did you notice and lag in throttle response or drop in boost levels?

    • @OneMonster
      @OneMonster  7 лет назад

      Hi Nils. Sure I did and sure I have logs - please have a look. datazap.me/u/wwojnar How it performs? I'm very happy with the results, stock 335i is as exciting as stock Lada 2107 or Yugo Koral, seriously. MHD really brings this car to life. Lag? No different from the stock one. Drop in boost levels? Only on hot days on stock fmic, so upgrade of the fmic is a must. Check my other videos to see how the car accelerates etc - and if you have more questions, do not hesitate.

      One Monster I'm allready running MHD 7.1 stage 1. I'm still doubt if I buy an VRFS for 600 euro or this one for 350 shipped. Many thanks, will look into the datazap as soon as I'm at home.

      Depending on your targets. If you're a casual hoonigan and occasionally want to roll some random victims, the cheap one is ok. If you're nuts, want to go for single turbo and money is no object, then obviously go for big vrfs or wagner. Almost anything is better than stock one.

    How'd the new cooler perform?

    • @OneMonster
      @OneMonster  8 лет назад

      +Jay Stone I'm very happy with it, no problems whatsoever. Sure, there are better fmics out there, but for the money - it's a steal. Well worth it.
