Yooo i'm a software engineer living in Auckland as well! I resonate with you when you said that you felt like you're just improving yourself everyday. I feel the same in a way where I don't have a set goal for long term. I try to live at the moment and do my best at it. Volunteering for me has also been a good complement to a programming job. Cheers!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I guess the key is to set short term goals and keep doing what we are doing! And yes, living in the moment and doing are best are all that matter ☺ Props to you for volunteering too!

I'm just starting college in software engineering this year after having previously attended and finished law school. I'm 31 years old and I feel kinda insecure about this whole career changing thing, even more with all the global recession and IT becoming oversaturated talk that has been thrown around lately.
I try to be positive and think that even solving problems for clients at my job like you mentioned would bring me immense satisfaction, for I see that I haven't accomplished much in my life yet(Am I too old for all of this?).
Anyway, just wanted to vent a little bit and add that my dream is to live and maybe have children in NZ. It really seems like a lovely place.
    Cheers from Brazil! 🇧🇷

Hello! Yea I completely get your fear and worries, esp with how the tech industry has been doing in recent years. However I think that rather than worrying about things beyond our control, it's much better to focus on what we can control (eg achieving our goal to become a Software Engineer). It is definitely important to keep up with the news and latest trends, but don't let it sway or affect you negatively. Good luck, you can do it! 🥳 Also, yes NZ is a beautiful place 😊

@MagdelineHuang Thank you for taking time to respond and for the encouraging words! I see what you mean. Staying focused on self improvement is what really counts when It comes to moving forward and I should avoid hesitating because of outside factors! My classes have just started and I'll do my best!
I wish you all the best! Thanks!

You make very aesthetic and relaxing videos! I studied music at Otago, just finished - no job at the end. Although, I’m making it work myself, starting a piano teaching g studio. Congrats on your channel! You’ve got a good vibe here. Also, I grew up in Auckland - you make it look so nice!

Great video, I'm also a software engineer down in Christchurch. Being closer to the customer can be nice but on the flipside you tend to feel a lot of the pain when things go down. Definitely feel the difficulty maintaining friendships, my friend group was pretty bad at it when we all entered the workplace.

It sounds like you're balancing things very well. I've just returned to design work in my 30's after doing manual labor for most of my 20's, and staying physical has become very important!

I've recently graduated a software development course and have found a job as a developer just these last two months. I definitely can relate to the workload being a lot more laid back at work compared to study, and especially that even if you are doing less, you have to fill the whole day doing it. I think my biggest struggle is with living in Rotorua, it's a smaller town so I meet a lot less people, and with friends moving away, I don't interact with many new people at work. I still enjoy my job and am grateful to be doing something I enjoy for work.

5:27 OMG this is literally me right now 😭😭 I have my sem exam starting next week and all I want is to pass and get good cgpa and get this over with. I haven't started studying yet cause this sem I feel very, not so good(?) and feels like I'm in a slump. It wasn't the greatest since it went in a blink of an eye and I feel like I'm writing or clearing my exams just for the sake of marks/cgpa... I just hope I get to experience the real side of this field in my upcoming days tho XD
PS: also you and your channel is really a big inspiration for me since I can actually relate to you upto some extent. I'm glad I found your channel lol ~

You could also have study hangs with your friends and then grab a meal after haha 😊 Good luck chinguuuu you can do it!!! 💪

Hi Magdeline! Shashwat here! I am currently a year 12 student highly interested in coding as I'm on my path to complete full stack web dev course by Angela Yu, maybe I will complete in summer holidays. Can you please guide me about what I should do in Year 13 to get CS in UOA. I cannot understand anything on web as everything is just random and not informative. I hope you will help and guide me as you also have gone through the same!! Thank you for these informative vids, It really motivates me to code more and more and in future maybe I will also start a RUclips channel haha!

Hello Shashwat! Congrats on taking the first steps to complete the full stack web dev course 🤩 This will give you a very good introduction to the world of programming. I personally studied CS at the University of Otago, however here you can find the entry requirements for UoA www.auckland.ac.nz/en/study/applications-and-admissions/entry-requirements/undergraduate-entry-requirements/new-zealand-secondary-school-applicants.html. In terms of what subjects to take in high school, I shared my thoughts on it here ruclips.net/video/YBMf2o2MVDg/видео.htmlsi=2cUfFYnIYJk0pVR3&t=127 Hope these help and good luck!
