Yeah, the atleticism required for a modern No.10 is unfortunately not to his favor, as a No.10 nowadays the players are required to be able to press the CDM/Deep lying playmaker or press one of the CB together with the No.9
This reminded me of the UEL final match, Arsenal vs Chelsea, where Ozil only managed to press Jorginho effectively for the first 15 minutes or so, and after that Jorginho had a lot of space to control the match because Ozil couldnt keep up the press

The Kroenkes are one of the worst things that has happened to arsenal in a long time (i live in denver and he owns my nuggets, avs, and rapids) but I don't I think it was entirely a reaction to his comments. Ozil's biggest problem is the Premier League changed to a high-pressing high-intensity league where you can no longer be a passenger as a number 10 ie Bruno. I think it's more of his work rate defensively that makes it really hard to play him especially against good sides. But I do know the Kroenkes care about image as well so I do think it played a part.

Few issues with this video: Ozil vs Sanchez - Sanchez had great individual talent, and saved us a number of points. But he played for himself, there were many instances when attacks would break down simply because he refused to pass to a player in a better position and instead tried to take all the players on. Not sure how true his conflict with Ramsey was but it doesn't seem to unbelievable. He was tactically indisciplined. He also had a terrible half season before he left and was even worse once he moved. Don't think of the two we picked the wrong one.
That game against Bayern - pretty sure Ozil won the ball back the most of either team but somehow he's the reason at lost. He's scored or assisted against all of the top six, including barca and Bayern I believe. His many games when he's played have arsenal played well but he hasn't, but when the team play badly he is the one that always gets named.
As for him suited to pressing - not his strength but in at least one pl season he was the 2nd highest player to win the ball back in the league, not Arsenal - the league. Both Mouriniho and Wenger have used Ozil in positions for his defensive capabilities because they didn't trust the other creative player in the team.
In regards to Emrey I don't remember Ramsey being that in favour with Emrey anymore than Ozil, it was one of my complaints that he didn't use Ramsey when he dropped Ozil.
In regards to the pay cut, think it's relevant to say there were 3 players that refused a pay cut, only the player that called out China was called out. And also worth pointing out that Ozil was willing to take a bigger pay cut than the others with certain assurances and /or confirmations. One of the reasons the players took the pay cut was to ensure no one was let go, that clearly didn't happen.
As for his decline recently, he was still the highest chances creator and highest chances per minute under Arteta until last few games, despite only playing half the games and despite some of our other creative players no longer being at the club. He has declined but not by the levels a lot of people suggest.

mesut used to be one of my favorite players back when he was at real.. being said, after he signed that last huge contract at arsenal, he seemed to not be concerned with working hard and performing consistently AT ALL.. it's obvious he isn't too concerned with his legacy or he wouldn't accept remaining mediocre whilst still having so much more to offer to the game. I am a former athlete, collegiate scholarship athlete, and i understand after playing your whole life and training hard your whole life, that it's easy to lose that drive if you're not totally in love with the game. I think with mesut he isn't in love with the game anymore.. it's just his job and after that huge contract, he wasn't concerned with giving 100% for the club or himself..

In England, Özil won three FA Cups and helped end Arsenal's nine-year trophy drought, while recording the second most assists ever (19) in a Premier League season.
A German international, Özil holds the record for the most German Player of the Year awards, with 5. He made his senior debut for the Germany national team in 2009 at age 20, and appeared in five major tournaments. He was the top assist provider at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012, where he helped Germany twice reach the semi-final. Özil helped Germany win the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

You’ve summed him up perfectly in those contrasting ideals. He is undoubtedly, world class on his day with only a handful of players that could dream of matching the level in which his vision could unlock defenses, one of the best ever at pickin out the most dangerous pass regardless of where he is on the pitch. He also seemed to scored goals in big games, his composure being his biggest attribute in front of goal. But a BIG however, the problem is he then decides to coast as a passenger in 5 out of the next 6 matches and his training output was piss poor according to former managers, including his current one, Miki Artekkers. Pep workin with the 2011 Barca squad in his first team talk encapsulated why the lack of giving his all consistently is such a divisive character flaw....”you will mess up passes, shots, and lose possession, I’ll never be mad at these things because you’re only human, but I will NEVER FORGIVE you not giving 100%”
It’s the bare minimum requirement for most professional occupations, don’t be lazy. It’s a shame to see such poetic ability wasted, he could’ve hit even bigger heights than he did if he had the drive of some like Rooney, Suarez, Alexis, or Vardy. “Saddest thing in life is wasted talent” -A Bronx Tale

Very few will ever match the Özil 2010-15 if any at all in terms of individual peakness. He produced an average of 0.82 goals or assists per 90 minutes during his time at Real Madrid. In his best season, 2010-2011, his numbers were simply jaw-dropping:
    - 3376 mins
    - 4.21 key passes p90
    - 23 assists (0.61 assists p90)
    - 4.83 chances created (key passes/shots created+assists) p90
    (Source: managing Madrid)
I am no Arsenal fan but I can certainly speak for Özil. He was really let down by the rest of the Arsenal squad during his early arsenal days. Arsenal Probably should have won 2013-14 or 2014-15 title with him in the team. In England, if your team isn't playing well, to escape from any criticism you have to pass the eye test of fans which is "showing passion", "throwing the arms around", "shout" and other intangible bullshits, and he could never pass the test. There's no denying that he had past him prime and regressed since Wenger left but the amount of acute abuses he received from fans, media and pundits alike during those times was beyond contempt. Arsenal fans looked at him like he was some kind of Messi or Ronaldo figure who would single handedly win games for them, which he never was and never have been. At Die Mannschaft and Real Madrid he was surrounded by world class, serial CL and Euro winners and at Arsenal, barring Sanchez, he was surrounded by donkeys. Then came a time when Özil simply stopped giving any fucks. Yes during later phases of his career, consistency was a key issue for him but it wasn't always the cas e. Still in terms of achievements, ability and stats he can match any great number 10 of 2000s. But bunch of ungrateful and outspoken Arsenal fanatics dragged him through the mud to tarnish his legacy forever. I can't do nothing but to wish him luck wherever he goes. Adios Mesut!!

What he did was to some degree the same as biting the hand that had been feeding him when he was attacked, debatably deserved. Not to mention the unintangable damages he caused when he never corrected the situation before joining the squad of Germany in 2018. His political choice is questionable at best, the same applied to his time at Arsenal. All I've seen in Oezil is his talent albeit playing a victim to blame all of his s*** on others.

For everyone criticizing his move from Real Madrid to Arsenal...his dad was acting as his agent at the time and his dad got in a fight (verbal fight, edit to add verbal, not physical) with the team owner and it caused an irreparable rift making things impossible and as a result, Ozil had to go. He went to Aresenal and not only brought his untouchable skill, adapted his play to the Premiere League. It's actually a pretty incredible achievement. ... Probably the one person more upset than anyone when Mesut left to go to Arsenal was Crisitano Ronaldo. If those two had continued to play together....their career stats would have been unbelievable. Clubs should offer players (who perform well) a 10% wage increase. If they reject it then sell them. Given that they are already on massive wages to begin with, if they want more than a 10% increase then that's pure greed and means they are at the club for the wrong reasons anyway. The papers also said that the club said that it was the only way to not have to layoff employees, which they did anyway after the fact and then went on to spend millions on transfers in the last window. You act like it was spiteful that Ozil went and payed the salaries of people who were fired due to the pandemic but it is pretty clear that if Arsenal had truly cared about their employees and that was the real reason for the pay cuts they would have opened their books. I wonder if other players felt anger when those firings were made.

8:37, they asked for the pay cut before the 55 redundancies. So arsenal saved the 12.5% on most of their players salaries and still made 55 people redundant. Ozil was right to not take the pay cut. It’s not his fault arsenal have been a mess. Hopefully both parties can turn the page now.

It’s important to note his individual charitable commitments prior and during the pandemic, that’s partly why he didn’t take a pay cut

In 7 years at arsenal he got more than 10 assists in a season once, since 2016 ozil has 21 assists, that's an average of 5 assists a season. in the same period of time de Bruyne got 56 assists and 29 goals plus he had a massive knee injury and missed almost an entire season of football yet still has X3 the amount of assists. There are fullbacks in the league with better assist stats than ozil, for example... leighton baines has got the same amount of assists hahahahahahaaaa solano from Newcastle is wayyyyyy in front of ozil and he played for a Newcastle team that got relegated from the league with lualua up front pmsl hahahahahaaa

Ozil and Ronaldo were amazing to watch Play. But as good as they were both were not able to made that much impact after 2019 due to the change in football style, both didn't provide defensive contributions which impacted there teams performances. While Ronaldo was only scored most of his goals from tapins and penalties, Ozil lack of defensive duty impacted heavily to the team.

At 2:20 it says, "His national team's first great success from an immigrant background". Wasn't Miroslav Klose before Ozil?

How did they ruin it exactly? Underperformed for several years and no club even wants to buy him yet its Emery's and Arteta's fault.
