You nailed it man. No party song. Slept on by half the young 'uns that came up in the last decade. Never got his shine in terms of media recognition and money. But ask any proper UK head for their top 5 and Chessmonster will likely be in there. A godfather of UK rap.
I was 50 last November and started hearing and loving New York Hip Hop in the mid eighties on Pirate Radio from Manchester . I'm guessing your Ma is a similar age and she will love this guy. He's like the first time you heard BDP by all means Necessary. Big love and Respect to you my Brother . Hip Hop is in safe hands .

Chester P. A legend of UK Hip Hop, killing mics since the mid90s. Him and his brother Farma G formed as Taskforce and dropped many a classic over the years. The UK Hip Hop scene has given way to Grime, Trap and Drill in recent years but there’s still a dedicated underground of emcees, djs, breakers and writers. In my view the peak years for UK hip hop were really 1987-1991 and then again 1998-2004. If you’re interested in learning a little more history, you can check out old UK rap video tasters on RUclips such as London Posse - Hows Life In London (1993), Hijack - Daddy Rich (1991) and Demon Boys - No Hocus Pocus (1990), Brotherhood - One Shot (1996).
Yeah Chester is fantastic. Starting from around ... well, probably around the time ENTER THE WU-TANG came out, the UK hip-hop scene produced quite a few excellent acts, including Chester and his crew TASK FORCE. This was before grime became a thing, and since grime did in fact become a thing the UK offshoot of hip-hop seems to have withered away a bit. It's a shame because there was a lot of good stuff: Task Force, Klashnekoff, Fallacy, Rodney P and Roots Manuva spring to mind.
Great reaction, just a bit of info, race ain't really a major thing over here, it's class which divides us so if your working class and from the ends ( hood ) then you're legit to rap and talk about the shared struggle, people stick together in the UK so working-class stick together regardless of race and the main difference between US and UK ( apart from we never had slavery over here ) is you get every race in the hood, people grow up together from birth, I'm from a mix race fam and we have Turks, whites, blacks, Asian and polish people on the estate I'm from and we all get on well and look out for one another. There is no segregation at all, not even in jail, it is every race together on the wing. Have a great day bro and peace out!
Don't be fooled, Chester has been around since the 90s in the UK underground scene and you're right he doesn't do party songs, all real talk about life on the UK streets. A proper modern poet
People need to realise this man and a few others {jehst, skinnyman, klashnekoff} created underground ukhh and wouldnt be what it is without him. Make and effort and tune in to real poets
