I bought the original Cher version when it first came out. I prefer this version :-) I find the essence of the song comes through more and lovely instrumentation with that reggae style and great to see how focussed everyone is playing together there.
It's remarkable I'm still coming back to this song again and again a year and a half after discovering it. The song really does work so much better slowed down and with a non-autotuned voice, doesn't it? The reggae rhythm section and sparse but choice guitar chords really add a wonderful easy swagger to it that was missing from Cher's version. Joey's voice is perfect for it, supporting an interesting change in the song's narrative. It's no longer a woman's independence anthem, but instead it's about a guy working up the nerve to tell a girl he doesn't need her bad love. And, of course, that Big Mountain-esque sax solo is just a nice touch. Overall, one of the Scary Pockets major covers that actually turned out much better than the original.
This is surprisingly uplifting. I used to think this song was for someone who was still very much not out of the woods yet after a breakup, like someone giving himself/herself a pep-talk. But this cover is really different, so much happy vibe. So nice. Keep it up guys. :)
Tamir has quickly become one of my favorite drummers.
Every Scary Pockets video with him on drums is a masterclass.
+1
Dude! The way he drops thos HH-Steps in... Just from another world!
His soft touch and control is amazing!
Agree men, Tamir has become one of my favorite drummers too, it's amazing.

I guess I have no memories about someone who sings like Joey Dosik with his perfect utterance and his clear and smooth voice!
Tim Lefebvre absolutely kills it. So tasteful and complex.

Simply the best use of lo-fi sampling from a Casio SK-1 I've ever heard.
Actully sounds clean enough

Tamir is fucking ridiculous on the drums. He isn't just playing reggae. He really has studied it well to do the licks he's doing. Killed it!
2:52 when the horns hit the melody......... that's the good stuff
Excellent bassist- never over stepping, but always keeping the vibe strong through the song.
What a sweet, ear pleasing versión.
Honestly, I listened to the original Cher song after this just to feel her awesome energy.
