Could be a great machine overall, but this massive blindspot haunts me in every right corner.

Ha yes, so true! I actually did a full league season with this car after making this video and became familiar with the blindspot. VR makes it a little easier to live with but yeah, it's pretty bad 😅

This car is IMPOSSIBLE to drive, if you are a beghiner like me do not by this car

It's certainly a demanding car 😅 probably not the best idea if you're starting out and still getting used to sim racing in general. Much better off with something like the MX5 or Toyota GR86 to learn about correct racing lines, weight transfer, trail braking etc 👍

Because these are Gentlemen Drivers car in the USA. The dentists seem to have a lot of money and drive them. Just like all the expensive Cervelo carbon bikes here in Australia are known as dentist bikes :) And this car is built for VR, in fact all iRacing prototypes are awesome in VR, the closed in feeling is so good. See you tomorrow night, will be a fun series.

It sounds like that horrible grindy drill dentists use when attacking molars! (Tbh, I hadn’t thought of that until Dan mentioned the dentists, but then just the thought sent a shudder right through me; ugh those horrible dentist visits from my childhood!)

How come you still on the cv1? Not a complain just a curious question 😊

    • @DDFRacer
      @DDFRacer  Год назад

It still works 😅 and that's the main reason I guess. In all seriousness, the CV1 has been absolutely solid and I haven't been convinced by any of the newer headsets out there that they're a genuinely better option on the whole. Some may have better resolution, field of view, refresh rates etc but the CV1 is incredibly comfortable and the Oculus software makes it super easy to pin windows inside VR (such as my chat for livestreams) without those windows being visible on the recorded footage. When it decides to stop working one day then I'll upgrade 👍 but until then I'll keep on using it.

Maybe The answer is more throttle? Brake earlier then slam the throttle to get the down force back through the corner because when you let off the the throttle you lose the down force and understeer. When I first started trying out prototypes I learned this is a real thing. If you're too chicken and don't go flat through some corners you lose time. Good example is that crazy left hander at Laguna seca. In the p3 I discovered at at 60mph I understeered but between 80-90 flat it was fine. And I was like 🤔 oh yeah down force requires throttle so if I'm chicken in the corners I won't make them. line up the approach and attack. Disclaimer: im just an armchair expert really I know nothing because I simrace like 2 hours per week or less so.. im probably wrong 🤣

You're absolutely correct! I had a practice session last night in preparation for the upcoming race and stream which started out very painfully but managed to find some decent improvements to drop my time down to a 1m22.947s. Getting on the power earlier and harder was definitely the way to go, I didn't think it would stick but it did 👀 so now it's going to be a case of finding out how brave I can be...

    HEY DD!
Sry to shout but I hope to get your attention before you move on from this vid.
Could you possibly try a video for setting up VR for YOUR racer of choice?
I'm having a devil of a time trying to set mine up for IR,RR, and ACC.
Iv had a good look about and seen alot of conflicting advice from different creators.
As a vr main yourself I'm hoping there's valuable info you could pass on to us (that can't do triple screens).
Personally I'm on a above mid range pc with a occulus 2 wired in.
I understand iv got a few bottle necks but I don't expect much.
On a flat screen I aim for 60fps with medium graphics.
On vr I get stutter and playdo trees.
    All the best bud 🫡

If anyone comments on a video, no matter when it was uploaded, I'll take a look 😉 you've clearly gone out of your way to get in touch or share your thoughts and, honestly, that's what makes running a channel like this special. All about that community!
Anyway, about VR, I don't think it's worth making an entire video because, like you said, there's a lot of conflicting advice. What might work for me might not work for you 😬 there are so many variables such as the hardware inside the case, the racing sim you're using, the settings for both...not to mention all the different types of headsets. I will say that ACC isn't great in VR, but RaceRoom is also quite dated now so is only ever going to look so good, whereas titles like iRacing and AMS2 are actually really well optimised. AMS2 works well out of the box but iRacing...wow, so many settings.
General advise I can give though is that shadows and number of visible cars will have the biggest impact. Turn shadows all the way down and set your car limit to 10-15 if the software allows it. You might get some pop in/out at the start but once you get past the first corner you'll hardly notice. Also check your supersampling settings as this can really kill your frames if you have it set too high. It'll increase clarity but at a big performance cost. Ultimately you'll have to accept the fact that you'll be running much lower settings in VR than you normally would on a flat screen.

Same here mate, although I've got no doubt that I'm going to get my arse absolutely handed to me 😬 some of the guys I'm going up against have a lot more experience in this car and iRacing in general so it'll be a bit of a learning experience I think...

Thanks Wusch 😄 feels like ages since I actually made a video instead of just streaming so it was nice to do something like this again. Always fun to be able to throw some editing in there!
