I 'm looking at replacing a 13 year old Sears , 40 gal water heater that's just starting to show some symptoms. Began a project today to investigate replacing it with either a 40 gal tank or going tankless. the first contractor I spoke to suggested this model. They also had a Rheem unit. Would appreciate learning how to maintain it. It's pricey but if it lasts 20 years it may be worth it for the convenience. Thanks for the info in this video.

Check out the video for flushing the Navien. I works like a coffee maker and needs to be descaled every year. Definitely a job you can do yourself. I can’t speak of the quality for the Rheem but the Navien works great. Thanks for the comment.

@@Ouzelfalls I hate to say it but there’s absolutely no way any tankless unit will last 20 years. Especially if your water is hard. They need to be flushed at least every six months and this is no easy flushing like with a tank heater. On a tank you can just buy it and forget it for 10 or more years like yours even without flushing. With a tankless I can assure you it will have problems within the first few years and parts can be thousands. Another disadvantage of a tankless is that when the power goes out. Boom there goes your hot water until power is restored. I highly recommend you get a new tank. It will serve you well for years and if anything did go wrong, the most expensive part is 150-200 dollars and not a thousand or more like a tankless.

Still holding up for you? Is the expansion tank necessary? I read of you have a closed system with a check valve it is, but my PRV has a bypass and I see the water meter allows back flow every now and then.

I just have the Combi Navion unit in our home, Just love it. Endless hot water and heating out home with the same unit, Wonderfull. Hoping for 20 years of use. Love the idea of pay (gas) ONLY when in use. Goodby to the 24 7 heating water with the old tank. Highly recommend to everybody.

You’ll only get 5-7 years out of it even with annual maintenance. Go watch Mikey Pipes channel. There is a design defect on the NCB heat exchangers. You’ll start to hate it and regret installing that wall hung junk in the first place.

Does this need a drain installed for the condensing?

Had a navien combi boiler installed at a cost of $16800 CAD and having problems within the first 9 months. Not impressed at all
