Fun Fact: I remember from Doug’s video a few years ago that that California badge on the dashboard is the same font as the California script on the California license plate. Just thought people would like to know
Well, when Ferrari and Maserati split in 2005, Ferrari took Maserati's project for Gran Turismo, changed steel to aliuminium and sold it as California, and Maserati was left in a bit of a scramble to develop a replacement quickly (Gran Turismo 1st gen), which they did in a record 9 months (from initial designs to production), based on Quatroporte V chassis
I've had to come to grips with what I will never be able to afford as a car enthusiast, BUT, would I be willing to try owning a California or California T and pray nothing needs maintenance/replacement? My financial advisor (AKA the magic 8-ball) says "yes".
I’ve bought three different Ferraris out of warranty over the years. They’ve all been extremely reliable. Never had one major problem. Just a couple very minor issues.
I love this car too! I have owned mine for 3.5 years now ~ the biggest "major" issue that any new buyers need to be aware of is the dreaded DCT failure - unfortunately every Ferrari from 2009-2019 shares the same Getrag 7DCL750. The sensors inside fail after about 10 years and its not mileage related ~ just rebuilt my transmission August 2024 - $17k Parts + labor! FYI!!! There are videos on F-chat relaying this issue in depth
I think it's a great way for an average person to have the Ferrari experience. I started off looking for an Audi R8 but couldn't find many in my area and landed on the California. After owning one for about 6 months I'd say: Pros: The sound, the power, the compliant ride, the sense of occasion that comes from driving this compared to an EV or Mustang, and the price. Cons: Trunk is really small but the back seats help, insurance companies don't like Ferraris (even soft ones), seriously there's no cup holder, and I'm nervous about facing a massive repair bill someday. Fingers crossed...
According to car RUclips, I measure trunk space by Alanis's, cupholders by Big Friggin Bottles, and door pocket sizes with convenience store junk food.
Hi Alanis, another cool one. That car had a lot of criticism but I suppose for any regular dude that thing drives like a dream. Sure thing it looks good but with you in the same picture it looks just like a red pepper 😊. Much love always from West Spain!
The Ferrari California is a very beautiful and elegant car with a lot of power and a lot of style. I like it a lot. I would like to get one. But not in red, I prefer more subtle colours. But also this particular car is very beautiful, the interior is perfect!
@@alancrisp1582 I stopped after 5 seconds or so. Don’t like Alanus’ tone of voice. I prefer Doug (the only reason I signed up to this channel a few years ago).
I don’t know what this means but I was a Ferrari & Maserati dealership (In MA) getting my Quattroporte serviced and I saw a used California in their show room and I don’t remember all the details of the car…but they were asking $87k for it. A guy came in to buy it…just sayin’…
Your passion and excitement when reviewing and driving a car is so authentic. Keep up the reviews I think that 95% of us enjoy them and yourself. I think this generation California's rear end is so iconic and good looking and damn that sound!
the trunk test, I believe the top partition should have been lifted, you probably could fit.. or not.. we will never know now.. also the top speed test should have been made with the car working, Ferrari batteries are finicky and we don't know if the state of the battery affected the speed of the test.
If memory serves, these cars have some common DCT and top issues that are ungodly expensive to deal with, and a big factor in their depreciation compared to other Ferrai models. If owners are going to put up with Ferrari-level repairs, they would rather do it on a more desirable model.
And so? Most of Ferrari models don't even have a infotainment system at all, because if you own and drive it, the infotainment is the last thing you care about.
Kudos to Alanis for sliding into the rear seats with the top up. She’s such a trooper! Great video! Thanks for the Formula 1 laugh. Brighter days ahead for Ferrari F1!
The melting plastic buttons happens to basically all Ferrari of this time period. 360,430,458,599,f12 etc. You may see it more on Californias because they tend to be used more daily than the other models.
@@carsandbidsFerrari should offer a free service to completely replace every plastic button in the interior. Under no circumstances is it ok for a multi hundred thousand dollar car to have sticky plastic buttons
It is easy to modify the Cali brake lights to use the tail lights and I did it on mine. Four hours of labor with instructions from the FerrariChat forum and you have a more Ferrari-like rear.
If she says she loves it… I believe it’s good. I will never understand why Ferrari purists would twist their nose on the California, the Modeo or the Rome. I am not a track racer, I don’t need a harsh ride. If it sound La like a Ferrari, and smells like one…
Ferraristi may despise the California but it brought a lot of AMG SL people over in 2009. Essentially Ferrari built an Italian SL63. They were tired of Mercedes insane popularity of AMG's R230 SL. The specs matchup nearly perfectly right down to backseat delete and the coveted hardtop convertible roof. Car & Driver tested them together and agreed how tightly matched they were. Just show's how long distance autobahn breeding is an overarching reality for many roadster buyers of GT cars. The fact that this Ferrari was competing with AMG's SL only made me want the SL even more with Ferrari level street credit.

I agree, the best time period for center console/control stack is the 2010s when there was the happy medium with screens and buttons.

BMW maintained the perfect balance of buttons and screens until recently when they switched to generation 8
