Absolutely spot on advice Russell. Nice to see videos aimed at lower handicap players and those seeking to really lower their handicap. This sequence of thoughts and feels is what has enabled me to become a 2 HCP player at 43. My goal is scratch, and this time next year I know I’ll be there. Everyone should take this onboard. Keep up the great work!
Hey Russell. I think the fact that you had almost constant oversight in college was Huge. What I find is that most people are pretty good at doing whatever they think they should be doing. When we start with a Flawed Concept we don't have a chance at getting it right. Along those same lines w/o massive oversight we can slip from a good to a bad concept and then hit thousands of balls reinforcing that wrong concept. Having played to a mid single digit handicap when I was younger I now hit balls like a 30 or something. I developed a steep downswing "saved" by standing up thru the ball for the last 8 years. I can overlay the videos. I've hit tens of thousands of balls and been thru instructors including Top 50 Instructors and I seem incapable of correcting the issue. I may be wrong but I think if I had the money I could spend an intense week or two with a good instructor that would correct my swing anytime I seemed to get out of whack - I think I could relearn some flawed swing concepts and go on to play great golf. Frustrating.
Rhythm and timing! Love this. It ties all the positions together smoothly and athletically. Thank you Russell, the notes you played are helpful. I'm going to work on finding my rhythm.
This is great thanks Russell. I am a 6 hcp that struggles with consistency between comp or social. I'm a scratch golfer when I play social but comp I almost always feel like I failed myself. Going to work on comparing tempo in comp vs my social play.
Good Morning Russell! Sounded like you're swinging at a 27/9 tempo. After reading "Tour Tempo" it seemed that the emphasis was, dial in your optimal 3-1 tempo and an efficient powerful swing would follow. What I gather from your video is that certain static checkpoints should be achieved and verified before moving on to tempo. Fluidity is great as long as you're not breaking down in width, pivot or impact..
I'd probably say that the tempo could end up helping a golfer bookmark the feels (static checkpoints) they are trying to focus on. I guess it's a chicken or the egg type of situation.
Yeah those were definitely the Tour Tempo tones. Need to have a good setup, then good positions, then a consistent 3-1 (tour) tempo. Easier said then done.
When someone relates the golf swing to tempo then it’s easier for me to lock in being a musician in the past. Great advice and you now have a new subscriber. I’ll sign up on the website also
I’ve used the app Golf BPM to work on my rhythm. Has some different music genre which have counting for your swing tempo. You can change the speed to to match your swing speed with irons and driver etc. Often put in the airpods on the range and just swing to the music. Helps to forget all that technical swing thought and concentrate on smooth swing.
I took a metronome app out to a PGA practice range....and discovered that the tempo stayed the same through out the bag. I registered 72 bpm....as the tempo they all seemed to have. This would make and interesting video subject IMO.
The last golf instructor I had was a little frustrated with me. After our sixth lesson within 3 week’s, he finally told me to just relax and take two weeks off, and then never play golf again. 😂
Your videos are always spot-on, thank you. Question: regarding your lesson membership, do you find students fix one issue and it causes them to create a new flaw in their swing?
Russell - I've heard throughout my life that I should work to keep my back knee (left for me being lefthanded) slightly bent and never straightened out but I notice that you always seem to end up on your back knee straightened out in the full backswing. Can you comment on this?

Thanks Russell That timing sequence really resonates.

thanks, I just downloaded it and will give it a try..
Outstanding video. Thanks!!
Boom…. Boom Boom. Like it. Am taking it to the back garden right now!
Great stuff Russel, I'm about to head out now for a practice session and will try and put this to the test
Yes. Thanks. This answers a lot of questions. Now to give it a try.

This video DID really help. Thanks
This is a proper golf tip.

An outstanding video
I'm having some serious issues with standing the club up when I transition into my down swing. Hope this video helps!
Superb, mate. Thank you.
I struggle with rushing the down swing. Thanks
Start by slowing down the back swing and using the same tempo going down.

What a channel this is
Brilliant!
I get too smooth and I hook everything. There is a blend that needs to be in place. You need to hit the pedal to get things aligned.
It really helps....
Tour Tempo
I came here for the pic in video with elbow between smooth and rushed but this video didn’t help fix that
"I, personally" rather than "I" haha
damn dude you did more talking then anything else why do these guys talk so damn much and show less this was a snoozeer
And if you think like this you will never have rhythm and timing, no-ones dynamic sequence works like this ....
yawn 🥱
Where you based Russell?
you need to get to the point.
