Dear Rosemary, i want to say thank you for this project, i which your guide was able to really explained better for you to understand well some of the question you put up to him, unfortunately he doesn't do much in educating you and your audience about the palace.
In southwest Nigeria, (The Yoruba Extract) monarch institution is well organized and highly respected, because the king is the head of the kingdom, as well the chief judge chosen by the people according to tradition, and he usually work for his people. It's a democratic institution headed by the king, follows by the high chiefs, community/villages chiefs, and families head.
That inner opened hall you were taking to serves as assembly hall where the king and high chiefs converge to deliberate to take decision on a matter beyond the families head, or communal chiefs can handle withing the kingdom.
Amongst the high chiefs the king has an advisers on different issues, so whenever there is need, he calls on those consigned and they come to the palace to give him advice before he take decision, that is one of the reason there were different places of meeting in the palace, Those old buildings are the ancient part of the palace before modern developments of 20th century.
Usually there's always market by the palace for easy chopping for the palace families, remember those days no cars or vehicles. In Africa we have democratic settings that work perfectly before the Europeans arrived in the continent, and it work better than the democracy they introduced to us which is fraudulent in nature, and enables the politicians to steal from the people. The traditional institute governing members are more upright than todays politicians.
Our sister from Kenya we love you and say thank you very much❣❤

I had my High School education in Owo in the late '70s to the early '80s; although I'm Lagosian, my parents are from Ondo State, the Akoko North-west LGA. It's such an amazing experience living outside of Lagos for the first time and in the Boarding school; I attended Owo High School; Founded by the late Sage and former Executive governor of Ondo State, Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin; the Current Olowo of Owo schooled there too around the same period, his father reigned then.
However, you have done a good job here, Rosemary and I encourage you to schedule another visit to enlighten the people about the very rich Owo tradition and culture; like the 'Gogo festival, and the Museum. Well done!!

Rosemary is doing a wonderful job visiting Nigeria. If you can get security support, I will suggest Port Harcourt in the East and maybe Kaduna in the north and Nigeria's new capital Abuja. (That is if your schedule permits, and you have not been to those places already)

It is the biggest in term of landmass. As for significance, Akure old palace stands out as the building with the largest number of courtyards in Nigeria and so listed by the National Museum and Monuments, but the architecture of Owo palace is far better.

Don't let them convince you about the largest Palace, Owo Palace remain the largest in Africa as documented.
Okene Palace is beautiful but it is certainly not the largest Palace in Africa.
