Oh that made me smile, and wonder where my steam engine went.
Here in the UK steam toy brand was Mamod. They had some tie in with Meccano, or at least copied their hole standard. They had quite a range, including a traction engine. I had a standing engine, but because it had the same hole spacing as Meccano, it grew wheels and trundled round the garage floor more than once!
I had a few belt driven tools for it too, but the most fun was using it to power strange Meccano constructions.
Slight difference I notice is that mine didn't use fuel pellets, it had a fire tray full of wadding with a mesh on the top, you filled it up with methylated spirits. I imagine that got outlawed due to health and safety! lol!
(I did have a few uncontrolled fires outside of the firebox!).
Well done for making it to the end without burning down the man cave!
