@lilcheergirlmom you obviously haven't watched the Greenup County teams, team standing back tuck, team ROBHS Tucks, that was Elite for a team in the early 1980's!!! They as far as i was concerned, were one of the best teams, and still are for that era, and the era of today in school cheerleading, they have dominated the National Competitions for school teams since then!
@cheercoach1984.i cheered 86-89..and coach now..that three high pyramid where they just fell to the floor.AMAZING and SO illegal now..but yeah when i cheered there were no rules,regulations or levels..it was a free for all, and I did basketball as well, like you said going three high, the back fliping off onto a gym floor...dear god..I was a flyer, did something very similar landed wrong and popped my knee cap right out..medic said take a deep breath, popped it back in and i was back in the game

Varsity squads doing forward rolls! The stunts are amazing, but I'm too used to today's AllStar squads. Did anyone throw layouts back in the day? Even a roundoff bhs? Seems so basic now. Nice to see how far we've come.
It's amazinh how far cheerleading has come. I was involved in cheerleading back then, and it makes my knees hurt today watching these videos! Flipping off of a 3 high pyramid to the gym floor-which this was in most cases. was Great to see back then, no one worried about their knees and ankles back then.. I love the athleticism of all of the folks involved, but it did set us up for the rules that we have in place today because of the risk involved, I still love watching all of this!!!!!
Really??? The tumbling was superior but apart from that, it pales in comparison to the best routines of twenty years ago in terms of difficulty and creativity. Top Gun's routine actually became quite tedious.
and i actually gasped out loud when that girl does the back tuck off of the 4 high pyramid at 00:55 when i watched this. i wish we could still dive roll though. i see how it could be dangerous though if someone doesn't do it right and they hurt their neck or back.
i looove this! :) Finally understood why there are soo many rules now. :) Some of those were scary, but i think the video is adorable. :) they're so clean and all. :D and the stunting....coed stunting. i miss thatttt.

The reason why 98% of what these girls did in the video is illegal now is because girls DIED in some instances doing stuff like this. As cool as it is, I think my life is cooler. And definitely worth the regulations. College cheerleaders can get away with tiered pyramids and elite squads can get away with just about anything else, but as a very recently former competitive high school cheerleader I am glad this is illegal now because my coach coached in this era as well (she is 72 and knows her
those stunts keep freaking me out!! the baskets at two high level are so scary =S and those back tucks dismounts from 3 high level... dammmnnn!!!

Too bad they made most of that stuff illegal now. Those were some really cool and amazing stunts.
