    Thanks for the very blind-friendly review. It's rare to find any review of anything that doesn't have some point where the reviewer resorts to pointing to something on the device in lieu of having to describe it. I also appreciate that you include operation instructions in the reviews. I've been using AfterShokz products almost since their beginning. I have to use a headset for the digital speech output I use to operate my phone, as well as for things like music, I mainly read electronic books also with text-to-speech on my phone, So I give the headsets a good workout. Because I depend on environmental sound for everyday safety I can't use anything else outside my home, but I pretty much just wear them all day as they've become so comfortable. I'm currently using an Air model and with all models on sale right now, am planning to pick up a second so I have backup when my headset eventually breaks or shorts out or the charging port gets stripped, etc. As well as really needing two to because the battery really isn't long enough for my kind of use. I don't find them as durable as they claim and don't believe I've had one that didn't have a problem at some point. I will say, they are great at honoring their warranties Anyway, this is the first review I've read that has me comfortable with buying this cheaper model, that I know what I'll be getting. I'm still on the fence, though, because the price tag is a big deal, but I've wanted the Aeropex because of the greater volume. I wish for a better volume comparison. It's hard for me to evaluate a "little" louder and I have to use the headset in some very noisy places, without having the option to use ear plugs. Also, it would be great if you could, as mentioned in another comment, review some of the lower cost bone conduction models.

      Thank you L Andre Zelvin! I'm very glad the review helped. I've had quite a few comments on build quality which is concerning although my Aeropex, which I use a lot for sweaty runs, are faring well after well over a year. The Aeropex are slightly louder but still too quiet in louder environments - I'm really not sure this is something that can be greatly improved with this technology. Thanks for the suggestion - I will try and review some lower cost alternatives at some stage.

The price difference is really an issue and because I don't have any experience with bone conduction technology, I'd like a purchase to be worth it. Quite lucky here apart from no covid, I can ride an escooter to work and back so really needed these as headphones are way too dangerous on the cycle path. I bought a pair today. I've been wearing the Aftershokz A5500 headphones for years, they have just about given up on me now, only 1 ear working, but I'm definitely in the market for another pair (new versions look to be less rigid👍), I actually love bone conductive headphones in general, they are perfect for busy people, with a young baby, I don’t have time to dedicate to listen to podcasts/radio, so I end up wearing the Aftershokz while working outdoors, minding the baby, running, cycling, as you can still everything thats going on around you, I can't recommend them highly enough!!

      @@TheTechnologyMan Hi Gideon, I have a question that maybe you can advise on. I got the AfterShokz OpenMoves. We weren't sure if they would work, so we didn't want to spend big $$$ to find out they don't. So far so good. My wife likes the concept, and she's been wearing them and they don't hurt the cartilage in her ears. So #1 that's a huge step!!! A couple things that she doesn't like and is looking for. the headband doesn't really fit her head. And the OpenMoves don't seem to adjust in the headband. Do you know of ones that do? Also the audio quality for podcasts is exceptional, but the Openmoves seem to be lacking in bass response in the audio quality. Do you know if the Titanium offers a better bass response? I know these are not like my Sony noise cancelling, bass boosting mega headphones, and we're not expecting them to be. But I thought I'd ask you as I'm guessing you've tried them and might have first hand experience with them. As always great videos, and thanks in advance for your input and time. - Jeremy

I tried them the other day and was very surprised at how well I could still hear my surroundings when out on a march through the neighbourhood. Now looking for my own set. I see a few comments that the new Openmove are less comfortable, so I'm tempted to wait a bit and see if they also refresh the air or aeropex versions. • @ajbfwb
    @ajbfwb 2 года назад

    Great review and comparison. I've had the Aeropex for over a year, and use them primarily for podcasts although, with ideal conditions, they can be passable for music. After about a year in, they wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few minutes. To their credit Aftershokz replaced them under warranty, but the replacement set doesn't quite seem as high a quality. It's possible the replacement set they gave me isn't a factory 2nd or, possibly, a return. I'll occasionally feel an odd but substantial click in one of the bone conduction panels. They sound fine, and the battery life seems good, but I suspect they may end up with issues before long. Another oddity is that, unlike my original pair, the replacements don't give the audible "power off" voice prompt when attaching the magnetic induction charging cable. They just silently shut down, and start charging. At the moment, the OpenMove model is available at not much more than 1/3 the regular retail cost of the Aeropex. I'm really considering it as a backup for my Aeropex. I suspect they might even be a bit more comfortable, as the more minimalist nature of the Aeropex seems to make for a smaller, tighter headband which is sometimes annoying. Either way, they're great in many situations where earbuds or headphones are not practical.

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan 2 года назад

    I think way back, several months ago I think, I was shopping around for earphones I could use at work that wouldn’t stop me from being able to hear my surroundings and came across the video on Aeropex on this channel. Been showing off them to my coworkers whenever it seems like they are interested in this kind of stuff and a few of them ended up purchasing Trekz and Titanium’s because they seemed more affordable and were not really disappointed. If the feeling that the OpenMove gives is similar to the Aeropex I guess that’s the next pitch hahaha. Like others have been saying on several places, they are pretty much set and forget and I been using my Aeropex pretty much from the moment I get up to when I go to bed, as the battery lasts quite a bit.
    Great video, but I got a question. I use mine at work and honestly the only moments I can’t seem to be able to listen properly to them is while I’m working with power tools and am listening to podcasts or very quiet music at 75%ish volume, how does the OpenMove compare to it? You said that the Aeropex was louder but is the difference between the two really that noticeable?

      I did and it sounded a bit better but not by much. My guess is that my ear guard of choice wasn’t canceling enough outside noise for the changes to be that noticeable. Might go shopping around next for some either denser foam types or those dumbbell looking ones. One thing I wish they could do to give some love to the aeropex would be to, if possible, an update to it so it can tell you which mode you on like they did with the OpenMove but I reckon I might just leave at that mode for now hahaha

      @@TheTechnologyMan Yes, i think the higher grip helps. but also because the Titanium is not IPX67 there are openings in the case that move air directly. @@TheTechnologyMan Hi there. So now i have tested pretty much all of the Aftershokz, i can say that the Aeropex has the best clarity in mids and high ranges. The Titanium is the most bass heavy and the Air sits somewhere in between, with good bass and mids but absolute no clarity in the highs (tin can sound). Opposite also counts that the Aeropex doesnt have any bass at all and I would recommend the Airs and even the Titanium over Aeropex if you are into EDM, rock or even hiphop. I was really disappointed listening to Foo Fighters on the Aeropex, and both other headphones delivered a better experience. I have tried adjusting the Aeropex, pressing them closer to my cheek bones, but this doesn’t seem to have much impact. My guess is that waterproofing them, and using smaller drivers isnt suited for music listening. That beeing said I do love Aftrshokz, and they make the best boneconducting headphones on the market. Note that I ran 3 marathons previous 2 years, and this is my tool of choice for training and races. I hope they will create a version which has a EQ that can be changed through your phone (like Jaybird, Jabra etc) and use slightly bigger drivers or enough room in the ear tips for bass to breath. That would be my ultimate running companion... until that day, i will just stick with my new Aftershokz Air’s instead.

    Was looking to upgrade my old Titaniums as I spend a lot of time fixing their position on my head when I have a proper sweat on out running. The weight of the neckband tends to make them drop down til they touch my neck. Are these much lighter/tighter to help solve this or best going for the Aeropex? Thanks

    Finally got around to actually trying out the OpenMove and the business and calls directed OpenComms yesterday. I still like my Aeropex more but it’s a shame that we have no prospect of firmware updates and what not given that Aftershokz still has no accompanying app. I ended up getting a second set of it, this time cosmic black, and I’m sending my old pair for repairs soon. Can’t stay without them anymore. Calls using inner earbuds like the ATH-CK3T or Air Pro, or inner wired ones at a similar price range feels stifling on the way I can hear my own voice and the rest of the environment feels oddly muffled, even if the microphone recording quality is better and the frequency range of the speakers are larger, I would still go for the Aeropex and OpenComms (specially if your focus is calls, audio quality of Comms has a noticeable leap compared to both Move and Aeropex), although the sticking out microphone arm might be a turn off for people that just want a pair for outdoors activities in the case of the later one.

    • @TheTechnologyMan
      @TheTechnologyMan 3 года назад +1

      Thanks I've not tried the OpenComms - the OpenMove and Aeropex's are ok for voice calls without wind noise but don't work very well running or cycling.

      @@TheTechnologyMan the guy that works in the store I usually go for electronics let me take it for a spin around the block for half hour and essentially I didn’t notice any differences in audio quality on incoming calls or music playback compared to the rig of the aeropex on the comms though it could just be that it’s outside my hearing range. The mic is better, one noticeable thing was that it has better ANC, had a friend run along using AirPods Pro and switched with me to check and the voice capture quality was much better, but felt like the mic arm was a bit fragile in terms of build and was not that great for using with an helmet of any kind (be it a safety hard hat for construction sites or a similar cyclist helmet you had footage on this and on aeropex videos, the mic arm often snagged or interfered with the straps). Talking with masks on looked kinda goofy with the mic sticking out and sometimes you could hear the noise of those one time use non-woven masks expanding when you talk which was something that I didn’t notice with Aeropex.

But if I use earbuds, I have to constantly take them out to communicate with my coworkers. I do not enjoy the music that they listen to. In fact , their music makes me miserable. They don’t blast it super loud most of the time. I am looking for something that will allow me to listen to music that I enjoy and at least somewhat drown out their music. I’m sure that I will not completely drown their music out . But I want to at least try. I like classic rock music. And 80s and 90s. Which ones do you think would be best for me? Very good and comprehensive review!
    I love my Aeropex'es and have been using them religiously for nine months. No good for music, but they are absolutely brilliant for podcasts and audio books (which is what I listen to while on the go anyway). They also work very well for Teams meetings and phone calls. You forget you're wearing them - and they are especially good for anyone who for some reason can't use in-ear buds. And to my surprise they actually work better for cycling than my previous Bose Soundsport, somehow there is less wind noise.
    The faults: I agree with you that there should be an option to upgrade them and configure their behaviour. The constant beeping when losing contact with one of the connected devices (like: when leaving your desk to go to the coffee machine) is very annoying, why can't the lady just say "Connection lost"? And the beeps themselves are too loud, I sometimes reach for my phone to change the volume just to avoid the beeps. Double click to redial the last number: this is a feature I use by mistake 95% of the time, often late at night to people I really shouldn't be calling at that hour. And in an ideal world it would be possible to adjust the headband for a tight fit around the neck, this would be useful for lying down or when wearing a hooded jacket.
    But nitpicks aside, they are very good for what they do.
    Sadly, I now have a problem with the inner speakers (transducers) having come loose and rattling - and this seems to be a common issue. So do hang on to your receipt, in order to claim that two-year warranty.

    I'm not sure how true it is, but there is a personal recounting I read regarding these types of earphones. There was a TIFU on reddit where someone caused tinnitus by using bone conduction earponoes. They would turn up the volume to the max (because your ears are still open audio sounds quieter), and his theory was that listening at max volume still had a negative effect on the little bones in the ears, such that he's left with permanent tinnitus. Also seems like an easy mistake to make, using these at max volume without consideration to the effects they might have. Not sure if it's nonsense and unrelated to bone conduction earphones, but felt it was worth consideration.

      I agree - I'm just testing the new OpenRun and OpenRun Pro - I was sort of hoping they'd have USB-C. I do like the magnetic connection it's very convenient - until you forget to bring your cable!
