I followed your video, very carefully, and made notes. Then I turned off the lights at the fuse box. Then I removed old broken dimmer switch from my bathroom and replaced it. Your instructions are really good and very clear. I am so thrilled with my achievement. Thank you very much. I’m going to attempt the “replace ceiling pendant with nice light fitting” next. You are an inspiration to all of us women . Sarah
Hi, Madam if you don't mind Can you share some photos what you made in your notes regarding dimming system. I think you prepared wiring connection from db to switch & from switch to load. Waiting for your kind response. Thanks
Needed to replace an old dimmer switch with a normal switch so I just used this videos instructions in reverse. Thank you for a clear well detailed video.
i have 1 gang 2 way switches and going to replace one of the switches to a dimmer switch , when connecting wires do you connect live swtch wire in L2 and brown wire in com
Ive got the same dimmer switch to fit ,but I got 3 red wires. 2 are twisted together and go in common, and 1 in L1 . Earth is not used ??? Although it is there .
My wife has requested a dimmer switch in the kitchen which controls 10 led's, but is part of a two way system. the other switch has 2 switches of which one controls a seperate light. Can I just fit a one gang dimmer switch to the single switch, or fit a two gang dimmer switch and have to get a two switch one dimmer and one not and and have the dimmer switch two way. This in the UK.
3:30 I like how to redid your live switch and put it in further so the copper is not exposed, this is probably a tip you should give instead of fixing behind the scene
My old light switch has 3 red wires and an earth wire connected to metal box...can I still install a dimmer light switch to this connection... Pls answer
3 red wires mean that the loop in is at the switch. Two reds will be wired into the common permanent line (except the last switch on the circuit - there will only be one) providing permanent lines for all switches. The third red wire connected at L1 or L2 is the switched wire going from the switch to the L terminal on the light. The neutrals arent always present as most installations like this are done in 1 core (line) and earth cables. The single neutral cores go straight to the consumer unit to all the lights.
Thanks for the video but I am hoping you can help me? The two wires coming from my wall are both brown and the new dimmer I want to fit has three connection points on it. The first one has an L the second has the letters SW next to it and the third has a wavy line with an arrow through it pointing up? I'm totally stuck so any help at all would be great. Thanks and take care.
I guess it's varilight dimmer switch. So L is for permanent Live , the one with wavy line and arrow is switched live . And SW is to link with another slave switch. So don't put any wires into SW . Cheers
In the language of electrcian blue and brown conductors are called live conductors.. blue one is neutral and brown one is called line.. hope this clarifies ..
