In this entry of the popular Metal Slug series, the evil would-be dictator General Morden launches another attempt to take over the world - or so it seems on the surface; this game proves that Morden is no Dr Wily by having the true villains turn out to be something else entirely.
Several of this game's stages branch; this run takes the shortest possible route through the game.
This run is faster than the predecessor movie (tasvideos.org/...) by 02:41.75 minutes. Improvements come from using new strategies, using new tricks/glitches, and optimizing everything better.

Seeing a Metal Slug gameplay without the character dying every 5 seconds is unbelievable
I can do X without dying but that's about it.
I love how the first four missions took 8 minutes then the last mission was more than double of it, taking atleast 20 minutes.
To be fair, that's def. partly because a lot of it you literally can't speed up. Eight of those minutes are pure autoscroller.
@@JT-hs6hc Yea, unlike all of the first four levels, there's like 2 to 5 paths and one of those paths are easily shortcuts, In mission 5, no shortcuts or variant paths, An extremely long path consisting of many bosses and sections.
Still its the most well thought out final mission in the series, really just love the overall construction of it from your comrade being kidnapped and you working with your enemy once more to take down an even bigger enemy
Edit: still it would really take longer if they took the other paths

Metal Slug 3 is probally my favorite, 'cause they just went crazy and put a lot of monsters in the game, creating a bunch of different environments outside of just the war aspect.
I like it because it was the game that introduced me to the series.(So basically I have an unfair bias towards it)

11:26 I remember thinking this boss in particular had a ludicrous amount of health and I feel super vindicated by the fact that even a perfect TAS bot controlling 2 players at once still takes like 30 solid seconds of sustained double gunfire to kill it.
I think the thing that really bugged me was that the guy with the bazooka never dies even though he's literally not protected by the helicopter AT ALL. what a chad!
Yeah, I’ve always found General Morden to be the most consistently annoying boss in the series to kill because he NEVER FUCKING DIES.
According to the TAS notes apparently some hits just don't do damage (even though every shot is clearly hitting him).
Although that could be on top of being stupidly spongey.
Even in MS1 when you beat Morden, you can still attack him with the knife when he's down and he'll keep grunting and all, like bro just DIE already
this boss was - somehow - even fucking worse when it was the final boss of the first game. at least here they give you a turret. first game gave you absolutely nothing, and it had even more health
Metal slug was always about the journey,more than the war aspect, from the first game you have, Aztec ruins, Europe, jungles, towns and cities; Metal slug 2 went a step further with very recognizable places like China, Arabia, travel through train, and Egyptian ruins ending with a military base and an alien invasion.
To me Metal Slug 3 was the very best because they took everything to the extreme, you have a tropical island, followed by a ridden zombie experimental facility with alien ruins, a submarine mission with a lot of branching paths ending with a factory boss, followed by an dogfight setting and after that they take the only place left to fight in, SPACE!, and you come back by falling while fighting a HUGE alien, c'mon, you just gave us the craziest journey of my life in a single trilogy, the next games were not as good or memorable, except for Metal Slug 7 (you're fighting the future itself)
My favorite part is that that insane fall from space down through orbit was without a parachute, the Peregrine Falcons are just so badass they can fall from orbit without a parachute, in a tank,and still have time to fight rootmars in midair
And the music was great
That framerate drop, such a memories :')

Seeing your former enemies fighting the aliens make me smile for some reason, well other than me finding it cute that they are trying to stop this powerful force.(I also get a bit sad watching someone other than me killing them)

The way that works is detailed in the notes, and is the whole reason they kept the trucks alive.

Damn! They took full advantage of the resources in this TAS. MAGNIFICENT GAMEPLAY, THE BEST I HAVE SEEN SO FAR.
I'm almost 100% sure that the sound effect used when the players throw up as zombies is the same that Zombiemen do in Doom when they see/hear you.

At around 13:34, I noticed P1 (Tarma) had no grenades until he picked up the powerup. Unless it's a 1cc run, wouldn't it ultimately save time to death-abuse to give yourself 10 extra grenades?
tasvideos enforces 1cc for arcade games since otherwise it's unlimited resources for no cost
Astro Slug's missile ammo depletes from player's grenade stock. It happens again at 16:20 when Fio is out of missiles and uses M.S.A to force-exit her Astro Slug.
@@MemoryTAS Even if it's 1cc, you still can take 2 deaths right?
@@AstralStriderZ I'm pretty sure this is false? If it comes out their grenades then they shouldn't have any missiles going into the space section.
@@AstralStriderZI know for a fact that this isn’t true.
1. If the spaceship missiles share ammo count with your bomb stock, both players should have zero missiles going into that segment, yet clearly they still start with them.
2. Even if they don’t explicitly share ammo count and just deplete bomb stocks, no Slugs in the entire series (to my knowledge) work like that anyways. Either they have their own separate auxiliary ammo stock or the character simply just tosses their personal bombs. (Or switches between the two.) Case in point, at the beginning of Mission 5 both players get into planes and use their auxiliary weapons but still have 10 bombs when they both crash their planes.
3. If you want video evidence against your point, look up a VTuber by the name Oozora Subaru playing MS3. Everyting about her situation in this mission goes in direct contrast with what you’re claiming.

Lmao! The first 80% of the game is already done in 20% of the runtime (8 mins), while the last 20% of the game almost took them 80% of the runtime (20 mins). This explains how detailed and longest final mission of the MS3 is as compared to the whole series.

I don't get it, how does people during the final boss just completely ignore the brain electroshock damage from the alien?
it's got kind of a wonky perspective to it, like your character can overlap with the sprite of the attack sometimes without getting actually hit by it since it's technically in the background.
