I have been using it since it was released I think in 2009 or so and... my sentiments exactly! I've abandoned it for several years after purchasing 12-40mm Pro zoom from Olympus, but now I bought E-P7 (insanely good camera) I am back to using primes and 20mm 1:1.7 is almost always mounted! I can not express enough how wonderful this combo is (E-P7 + 20mm 1:1.7) The joy of the process is back! And this magical rendering of this lens is also back in my photos.
I just got it and i’m deeply disappointed, this is the slowest lens i ever owned and makes it practically useless for many subjects, not even the kit lenses are so slow. It is also noisy. This old guy is rambling only useless stuffs in his review, if i knew i wouldn’t have bught it. I’m pissed i wanted to save money and didn’t buy from store, so i can’t return it.
Hi Bob Thanks for your vid. I recently purchased the mk1 version of the 20 mm Lumix lens to pair with my Olympus EPL8 and they work well . It makes this combo very lightweight and a take anywhere kit. I also have the Lumix 35-100 3.5f zoom lens which is a great small lightweight zoom capable of very sharp images.
I wonder if there is a way to put the links that you want people to go to as a comment? I am just getting started with video on RUclips. Good luck with your videos.
I don't know if I had a bad copy of that lens or not but the photos just lacked that pop that something like my olympus 17mm 1.2 or the leica 25mm 1.4 have. I really wanted to like that lens.

Strange. I can not say about 17mm oly becausa i don't own it. However I do own 25mm 1:1.4 and 20mm 1:1.7 and yest they are different, however 20mm has definitely a special signature. I do own Olympus lenses like some zooms 12-40mm add 40-150mm as well as 12mm 1:2 and 75mm 1:1.8 and they all are technically excellent but in my opinion even 75mm that renders beautiful portraits is just clinically perfect. On the other hand 20mm 1:1.7 as well as 25mm 1:1.4 and 45mm 1:2.8 macro all have unique signature. Every one of the three are technically awesome but at the same time they all have this "something". From my experience the strongest uniqueness of the three has 45mm macro prime - here the portraits induces Ohs! and Ahs! even if person does not care of photography at all. :) Maybe your copy is flawed or maybe you expect something different that this lens delivers. I can only say that if there is some kind of sharpness problem ot other severe technical issue with the wuality it means that probably the copy you own is broken. This lens (and I own ver. 1 released like 13 years ago) is technically very very good indeed.

I'm thinking of getting the EP7 and teaming it up with this lens as well.
I just got the ep7 and i have a 12mm f2, but i think i want this one as well

I bought this lens again about a year ago, and it's like a completely different lens than the last one I had. A really great lens.
👍 another great review
Neat
The subjects, light are terrible, we cannot judge if the lens is good or not based on them.
This guy is rambling only useless stuffs in this review, this lens has slower AF than the kit lenses and it’s very noisy
The slow autofocus is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy over exaggerated. especially on the newer bodies.
