    50 years of equal pay without equal play ! Until the men's game is reduced to 3 sets in slams, there can NEVER be equality ! Men providing many more hours of entertainment for paying customers than women, yet only getting paid the same as women. Unpopular fact!

    • @slammerw3

      It's actually a very popular opinion, but the population is either getting more brainwashed or to timid to speak up. Apart from the time spent on court, it's the market participation of ticket sales, tv viewership, merchandise etc that makes the men's game generate more revenue multiple times more than the WTA. In all honesty, I think the US Open women's final generally drives more viewership than the men's game, but that was when Serena was still playing. Not sure about after.

    So men play 5 sets while women play just 3 per match! That is way more stress on your body and joints and ultimately takes a toll on how many more matches you can play in your career. That is not equal pay, that is women getting paid more for playing less. If these modern feminists were serious about equality then why not do what McEnroe proposed, just have men and women compete on the same tour for the same price money and get rid of the men vs women distinction; but wait, these feminists dont want that cause they know there IS a difference in performance between men and women. And shouldnt higher performance by the men translate to higher price money? These women here aren’t demanding equal pay, they are demanding to be graded on a curve… complete hypocrisy

  • @slammerw3
    @slammerw3 Год назад +8

    In this era we live in, the equal pay ideology is not modern, but communist. The WTA, ATP and FIFA are basically taking the men's revenues and redispursing it to the women, subsidising their tours, when the men bring in up to 90% of the income. If you break down ticket sales, merchandise, and most importantly TV viewership, the men's game vastly attracts more viewers/fans.
    Also women's tennis is in decline ever since Serena and Sharapova left. So they are in a bigger hole going forward. Also men's tennis ( no fed, little nadal play ), so there will be less revenue to go around.
    If they want equal pay, start paying onlyfans content creators, models, divorcees, servers, strippers equally.
    So this 'equality' ideology is just making women and soy feminists more bitter, have a 'hat in hand' begging mentality and are also angry about it.

      AGAIN...the women have ALWAYS offered to play best of five set matches in the majors, and Oz was supposed to be the first Slam tournament to do so about a decade ago. But, at the last minute, they changed their mind, because increasing the length of the women's matches would necessitate the need to extend the length of a GS from 2 to 3 weeks (and even longer, if the weather was uncooperative). I wish people would do a little research to see that the women ARE STILL READY AND WILLING to play best of five set matches. It is the tennis associations of the Slams that are not willing to do it, and blocking it from occurring, due to time constraints.

    Why "equal pay"?. Women play half time to conclude their matches in 3 sets. It's not fair to charge the same for working half the time. The courts where women play are emptier and women's tennis fails to attract the same interest for spectators, except when girls join men's events out of interest (as parasites), to gain visibility. Events where only WTA matches are played do not achieve the same interest in television broadcasts. Television stations do not pay the same and tickets to these women-only events are much cheaper, because the interest is much lower. If the US OPEN only had ATP players, it would sell the same number of tickets, for the same price. The same would happen with television rights. The men's circuit does not benefit in any way from the women's circuit. But the female tries to take advantage of the male to gain viewers and claim the same pay by playing half the time. It is very unfair that one person earns the same money as another by working half as much. That is not equality. It's going overboard. Billy Jean almost lost to a 55-year-old average male player, after his partner, world number 1, lost to him. And as John McEnroe said, if Serena Williams played on the men's circuit she would be close to 700th place. I would love for the top 10 in the WTA rankings to play for a year on the ATP circuit to see where they would be.

  • @Tennisisreallyfun
    @Tennisisreallyfun Год назад +1

    Look, sports isn’t a commissioned thing. The women spend the same amount of hours on the practice courts as the men, spend the same amount of hour on tour as the men, travel across the world and interrupt their lives and the lives of their families just like the men do. The only difference is that women need to play one less set of tennis than the men, or that they tee off from a slightly shorter distance than men on the golf course. So for people saying that women should get payed less because they are less popular and bring in less revenue, well, that really isn’t their fault or their problem. The only reason why people should get payed for anything is for dedication and amount of hours put in and talent as well (yes, the women are just as talented as the men, even if they’re not as physically capable as they are). I mean, that is, theoretically, how it should be in the everyday workforce, right? You out in the hours, you get the promotion/paycheck. So it goes in a law firm, and so it should go in sports. And as for the amount of sets women play vs men, when equal pay was first discussed, the women were actually ready and willing to play three sets instead of two and the USTA turned them down. That’s not their fault either. I believe women and men should compete to the same standards (that’s means three sets for both in majors, for example), but this revenue argument is absolutely absurd in all ways. So, as a man and a tennis player, I definitely support equal pay for all sports (and in life in general).

      Are you paid based on the time spent improving yourself or for the time spent travelling to work? No, you are paid based on the hours spent at work. Who cares if Nadal spends 8 hours training and Djokovic 12? The end result is what matters, and the fact is that men spend 4-5-6 hours on court while women spend only 1 or 2. So the hourly pay for women is actually 2-3 times greater than men's. Totally unequal pay. There are many jobs where women are paid better than men and nobody bats an eyelid.

    ille Jean King is nothing. Equal pay for equal work, sure. However, women do not do equal work when compared to the men. They play three sets compared to five sets. Also, if they want true equality then there should be no men's or women's tennis, just tennis where the best tennis players play regardless of gender.

    Women tennis is actually popular, so no problems with the players getting paid. As for WNBA or the USWNT (soccer), they don't have the popularity. Even women UFC fighters are paid well. Should male models or reality TV stars ask to be paid as much as women? Of course not, because women models/reality TV are more popular. It's just the reality.

    • @teejteejteej143

      @@TheVerbalVolley that's a very convenient cop out. Tennis fans are happy to get 3 weeks of tennis. It's really not about the number of days needed. It's about the revenue coming in from those matches. I love women's tennis but even the top players today cant even last 2hours on the court, much less 5 sets like djoker had last night. So why would Iga get the same money as djoker if they both manage to win?

      @@teejteejteej143Best of five sets would add 7,620 minutes to the tournament schedule (this is averaging only a minimum of 30 extra minutes per match for a three of five set match, and that is if it only went three sets), which translates to 127 hours, which translates to 5.29 days. Three weeks is something the GS tournaments do not want, as OZ indicated when it scrapped the idea of attempting to have the women play best of five sets about a decade ago. If you add in rain outs, etc. this could go well into a fourth week. This would present a real scheduling problem. I personally think that both the men and women should play best of three sets until the quarter-finals and then play best of five sets from the quarter-finals forward. Outside of the Slams, both the men and women play best of three sets anyway.

If the organisers didn't schedule the men's and women's games near to each other, idk how the WTA would survive. Especially since Serena and Sharapova left.

      @runrafarunthebestintheworld it's not about it being fast paced (if that's the case, then NBA players wouldn't get the salaries they get today). it's just that WNBA isn't that popular YET to fund its players what they think is "equal" to NBA. Part of it may be because of the history since NBA is older than WNBA, but it's not fair for them to call out "equal pay" when they're still in the midst of trying to make their league popular to audiences.

    • @snikerz1237

      WNBA is doing its best now by trying to find it's "Michael Jordan" or "Magic Johnson" that gives so much popularity to the world that it rises up the league to be a global icon. If they do find that person and they still get lower pay than NBA, then I would say it's reasonable for them to complain about their salary. But... not yet... not yet.

    This equal prize money thing is just nonsense. Do female tennis players earn the same amount of money as track and field athletes, swimmers, gymnasts...? No, they don't. They earn much more. Why? Because sport is entertainment. If tennis is more engaging than high jump, then tennis players should be paid more than high jumpers (and they are). If men's tennis is more engaging than women's tennis, men should be paid more. I'm sure women's tennis players would still be paid waaay more than men's high jumpers. And also, 90% of coaches and sparring partners on the women's tour are men and they don't even want their player to win slams or be legends, they're just happy with their big semifinalists or runner-up checks.
