Perfecto, I'm where you are on doing my own guitar work. I use the stuff I work on and I wouldn't charge for messing with someone else's axe at this point. I may have more tools than you, although I can't be sure of that. I am glad to see that you did a fret level, crowning and polishing. In my opinion, those are the most important things you can do to a cheap guitar. Doing these right improves playability, tone, and sustain more than any other single thing. I would have gone with a six-saddle bridge over the compensated saddle solution you used. I also would probably swap both single coils with humbuckers, probably single-coil sized. I am no better at enlarging holes than you, with my having done overcutting when I enlarged the vibrato cutout of MY Glarry GST (Strat-style guitar). My overrun is visible from the strap-button end of the body. Oh, well, look at how messed up looking some of Les Paul's and Eddie Van Halen's guitars came out ... and still sounded great! The other thing is that your overrun and mine have the virtue of not being very obvious from any distance. Eddie Van Halen cut a chunk of wood out of his Ibanez Destroyer and destroyed it, by his own admission. Point is that that's why you buy cheap guitars: To learn from them by working on them, undeterred by the though of destroying them, because they're cheap enough not to worry about! I personally have yet to destroy a guitar through the ill use of tools. Probably, you can say the same.
Thanks for giving me the link to this video! My Glarry will arrive tomorrow and I hope to learn to do mods before I molest my beloved Ibanez RG. If I end up with a playable, good sounding axe, that's a bonus! Didn't know Graphtech made string trees.. so that's on my mod list now! Again, thanks for going through the effort to produce this video!!!
As for upgrades, I also did this to my JCraft surf green Strat guitar, for the goal of making a semi-replica of the Fender Vintera 50's Stratocaster. Locking tuners, bone nut, Alnico V pickups with cream bobbins installed on a white pickguard, and vintage-style bent saddles. Plays good for my taste, and my go-to instrument for cleans and Hendrix/Malmsteen songs.
I think it's alot of fun modifying cheap guitars, I have several squiers and fenders that I modified, I even built a parts caster that I put together. I get alot of enjoyment working on these guitars.
the only upgrades i did on my guitar are i change the vintage type strings trees to a roller type and added 2 more springs on the whammy for tuning stability then i added a pushpull pot (volume) for the neck and bridge to work in series then i remove the tone number 2 and on the volume hole i added a switch to make the 3 pickups of the strat work in parallel and i added a kill switch everything in the guitar is stock i love the way how it sounds stock with 1 master volume and tone
I’m literally doing the same thing to a Glarry GTL Humbucker/Single… But unlike you, I’m a noob at guitar playing and repair. I have the same issues with the control cavity depth-I’m scared to Dremel out the depth.😅 My other big issue was that I wanted to change out the white pearloid pickguard to a black one, and realizing the new one won’t fit.😖

Last year, while i was contemplating about what should i buy for my first guitar I stumbled upon this jcraft t-style but dual humbackers product they had, and syempre, may mga video din ng nag upgrade nung gitara nya. Im a cyclist, so upgrading what i have is always a thing. Pero last minute yung post ng yamaha rgx na floyd rose, nasilaw ako idol sa floyd rose eh malapit lng nmn ung presyo nya s jcraft so yung yamaha ang binili ko. Bad move😂, sabi n kcng nag t-style n lng ako tpos inupgrade ko n lng. Sakit sa ulo mag alaga ng floyd rose bridge, hahahaha, pambawi n lng ung emg pick ups nya, hahaha. Nice content idol, ipinaalala mo ang wrong move ko last year😂

@@OfficialPerfectoDeCastro how abt the tagima tele that you also reviewed? Is it worth it to be a project guitar or should I just save up and buy a squier
Well done on modding the guitar Perf! Sick tools you got there. I dig it man. A very honest opinion on the question "Is it worth it?" and I totally agree on both answers of yours. That is why quality guitars are expensive due to the tedious working process and of course the reliable parts installed on it. Modding on the other hand is fun provided we do it on an inexpensive or junk guitars. As an aircraft greese monkey myself, a successful challenging modification is rewarding at the end of the process. Speaking of junk guitar, Eddie Van Halen build and modified his Frankenstrat from factory rejected parts and installed a PAF humbucker on it to get the best of both worlds. He has done these with limited technical skills and the guitar sounds immortal and legendary. Stay safe and nice to see great videos from you. Peace and love from Dubai from yours truly. 🙂
Logistics reason, mas mahal pa shipping fee kesa sa isang unit ng JCraft para mapadala sa lugar niya lol I already suggested na gumawa siya ng reviews sa mga cheap gear dito sa Pinas pero for the same reason, di niya magawa lol

You are the greatest guitar teacher I have ever seen, you communicate wonderfully and make it easy to understand.

Wow, great demo Perfecto! The pickups were originally designed for Colt Westbrook of Walrus Audio. Thanks for using them in the video!
Pistoleros ROCK!
The lefty tele bridge makes it unique and sounds clear and crisp than usual tele bridge saddles.

Clever thought on the bridge pickup with the Jimi config!
Thank you for showing your dremmel error result...I learned from it
Glad it helped!

interesting trick in mounting the bridge pickup. the @Sonic Pickups are interesting as well. might give them a check for my Explorer project guitar.

Does it play better than the Tagima TW55 after the upgrade?
Not really, still felt like a cheap guitar that stayed in tune and sounded good

How's this guitar (the neck and the wood of the body) compared to the MIM fenders?
