This was a frightening way to begin our day. As we came around the corner in our van a car was speeding directly at us. He locked up his brakes and we braced for impact. But what do you do when your struck by an out of control car as a foreigner in Albania? This kind of thing can really wreck your day if you let it.

Rollercoaster episode, loved everything after the beginning! Please take that wheel to an automotive shop when you can. The damage to the rim may have weakened the seal and you could potentially wake up to a flat tire that won't hold air. A shop with the right tools would be able to repair the dent to the metal.

While driving on Eastern Europe, always have your dashcam on recording. There is a lot of insurance issues there. Safe travels!

My heart dropped when I saw this title. Two months ago I was side swiped in the exact spot. I just got my van back yesterday after 6 weeks of waiting for repairs. The total cost was 6k repair those pieces. Luckily, the insurance of the person at fault paid. Wishing you both the best and I hope the repair in Europe is much less. I’m glad you are all ok. Scary roads though.

What a country of contrast from danger on the narrow roads to the abundance and gracious hospitality of a former prison now providing camping, wonderful food and employment for many in the countryside. I am sure you are reviewing the the width of your route ahead and glad you could shake it off and get back in the saddle. Just like the scouts of Latin America you are Siempre Listos as your journey continues. We love you and wish you safe travels.

Just like in the US, you should call the police immediately. In Albania and Europe, the emergency # is 112 and works without a signal. The # for traffic police in Albania is 126, but 112 is a unified # and supposed to connect with all the other emergency services.
Just glad everyone on both sides are uninjured and the vehicles are still drivable.

Thank God the accident was minor. But I’ve been watching you travel those narrow roads knowing how fast some people drive, and I’ve been very worried about you. So take this as a warning not to go on those roads anymore. Someone could knock a van over a cliff with a high enough impact. Please we love you stay safe. Some views are spectacular and some roads are good shortcuts, but they’re just not safe enough to risk them. That said, The artisan food at that restaurant was fantastic. What a great place, top shelf. (Except for me because I’m vegetarian I feel sad for the animals. ). So glad you had such a lovely experience following the traumatic one. Glad your angels were on the job. Happy Easter.

A car backed into us on the side of the road which was the parking area for a historic site (stone circle)....the other driver helped us fill out the insurance documents in our glove box...he said, "When you get back to America you can tell everyone you were crashed by the Army!" At the time it seemed like a good idea (I was 30 years younger back then) but today I consider myself lucky that road mishaps didn't turn those vacations into nightmares. If you would have sunk your heels in and insisted on him complying with doing what is right, it could have become very dangerous for you all. I'm just glad you weren't injured and that the damage wasn't major. Really sorry it happened.

Loved that farm to table establishment, what a wonderful initiative. 🌞Her English was excellent!
Also loved Curt's assessment of that "low integrity individual" - won't be the last you meet I am sure.
Bear in mind - for generations, eastern Europeans learned the hard way that to involve authorities would be to invite trouble for one's family. 👮‍♂
Wait til you get to Bulgaria - the fruit basket of Europe! 🍎🍍🍏

So true, my friend is Albanian and she tells me all kinds of stories, especially when it was communist. People did shady things just to survive and they hate any authority. Glad the damage was minimal, but he definitely was a shady character. The man with him was probably his father. My friend said many younger Albanians speak English, so he playing dumb. Hope you took a goody bag back to the van. Beautiful restaurant.

You are being divinely protected and I am so relieved you’re both good. What is amazing to me is your travels through South America, where I have been an expat for 17 years…I would have expected the “curve ball” in the Latin American countries… Wow 🤩

So glad you weren't injured but be careful, it was not a one off, they drive crazy especially in Tirana. You had the Kascaval cheese that I fell in love with while I was there and only wish we could get it here in the states. That was very cool restaurant and can't see what's ahead. Theres a really cool catch your own fish restaurant at the top of the monolift outside of Tirana that hopefully you are going to see. Be safe and enjoy the wonderful views and food.

What a harrowing experience! When something like that happens it helps you realize how precious life is. Grateful that you two, the kitties, and your home are okay. It's always unfortunate to deal with someone with low integrity, but that is an inevitable part of life. When I run into someone like the man who hit you I'm always glad that person is a mere 'passerby' rather than a relative or neighbor you have to see more than once.

Wow! I'm glad you made it through that tight squeeze. Its everyone's nightmare on a mountain road. That man wasn't fazed by almost getting killed. He must have some kind of death wish or something! But the food makes me want to go to Albania!

Good morning Snow and Curt ☀️ Oh dear, that was one heck of a way to start your day, how scary! I'm so happy that no one was hurt. That drop off could have been deadly if that car went over the guardrail on that side of the road. That guy was very, very lucky that you both are such safe drivers and always slow down on blind corners. Kudos on navigating by that big rig, talk about millimeters to spare.
I think your camp spot at the farm-to-table restaurant was the perfect place to de-stress after that stressful morning. I was so jealous of all that delicious looking cheese, yummy!
On a positive note, congrats on your sponsor🎉 I hope that they make it a regular sponsorship with you both. Safe travels, and happy Easter 🐣 🤗🇨🇦🙏

Hello friends. What a close call with a rude someone to whom the rules of decency don’t seem to apply. A very poor ambassador of his country. So glad you both are ok and that the van took very little damage in comparison to their little car.
The restaurant and the people and the animals and the food could not have been more interesting and beautifully presented!
You have met so many lovely people along the way so while percentages caught up to you in one way, the goodness of the bigger picture far outshines one jerk!!
I’m just loving the food experiences on your journey and thank you for these amazing times….experiences of a lifetime🤗👏🏻👏🏻👍👍🙏🙏

OH no I'm so sorry this happened to you but as you say stuff happens and it had to happen one day travelling on those really narrow roads... no one was hurt that was the main thing. I have never heard of an insurance that doesn't cover the other persons car.. He probably doesn't have any....

  • @lindasteller

Oh my! I'm so sorry. I've been hit a couple of times. Actually, I got rear ended six times in my Honda Civic. Bright teal green car. 😢 He had to be covered for himself and for you. Go to the police immediately and report this, if not for fixing your van but for taking that idiot off the road. He needed to have consequences. You didn't need to be there to see it, but you just loosed him on the rest of the public. In Oregon, you are legally obligated to report an accident, even if there is no damage and no one is hurt. What a facility that farm to table place is. I'm 98% vegan, but the cheese looked a bit tempting. Nice of them to give you a nice tour.
