Rain was the worry rather than wind for this one. Always projected to be a tropical storm (still super rare) by the time it hit. But also the most intense worrying rain depends on how far west or east it shifts and which are hard to predict exactly. So a wider area than what it actually hits gets warnings.
The significance of the weather event is that it's been 80 years since a storm took this route. This hurricane season will be interesting as the west African SSTs have been very high. Watch out Florida and the Gulf.
Check NOAA. Hurricanes become TS soon after landfall. Hilary is the 1st TS ever seen as far north as NV & has wicked enough ocean waters to keep forging northwards. With climate change accelerating, won’t be the last. Flash floods & debris flows become the main concern, even to the experienced.
"Hurricane" ... *laughs in Floridian* We barely got rain in our area hard enough to exceed drizzle category, yet we got push notifications on our phones warning us. We did get a minor earthquake, so at least there was that... lol.
where do you think the cameras are? Do you think the cameras don't get wet? You think computers can't be affected by water on the camera just as we are affected by water on the windscreen?
@@I_dont_want_an_at the cameras are all around the car they don't have a wiper on each camera so that when you activate the windshield wiper each camera lens gets wiped also.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe I'm missing something, but I believe all camera are down on the bumpers. Is there a camera on the front windshield?
Dude lives in Palos Verdes or something. Trying to put my finger on it. I recognize where he emerges as ive been to that 24hr fitness, whole foods, inNout, home depot etc. which is Torrance. I know that church in beginning too. Cannot recall the location. Honored to have this guy in my backyard lol
you're taking other people's lives in your hands by driving that car without wipers going. You might as well drive squinting or with looong eye blinks. This is madness. How could you
Impressive drive without the wipers but of course we must remember: most cameras don't have a cleaning device and can get quite dirty. Which is why I think Tesla's training FSD on dirty cameras all around and in result the car can do well in heavy weather. We must also remember that the lenses are attached to the windshield therefore at most 2-3 water drops may block their view whereas hundreds block ours sitting much much behind so FSD does see different to us.
That was interesting (not going around that car) I wonder though, if the system is 'thinking' it doesn't know why the car is sticking out.. basically meaning it doesn't know what's going on, and for safety, it decided not to pass. dunno.. but could be..
Question- I'm pondering buying a new M3, which comes with FSD for 3 months. But that's not the same as FSD Beta, right? What are the differences? When I Google this question I get answers from 2022 that I assume aren't accurate today.
I m in the process to buy model y with fsd in Canada however I found tesla still rolling hw 3 here . Do you think should I wait for hw 4 or hw 3 is still a wise decision to go with fsd. Thanks
Fuck ya dude 👏. I just got back from Home Depot (in north San Diego) and it was coming down hard 🌧️. Robot 🤖 chauffeur didn’t even bat an eye despite that bad weather “degraded” message. I do notice after I use summon , it turns off the FSD beta preference so I have to manually reset FSD beta “on” after using summon ( i’m not trying to get all wet walking through the parking lot like a caveman) . Also, I don’t think the wipers will come on unless the actual forward facing cameras are blocked by water.
it works fine since there is a hydrophobic coating on all camera lenses. Not sure why people use wipers as a reason why FSD cameras will be obstructed or that they require some fancy cleaning system.
FSD gives a shit about rain. The future applications of this software are huge. Fantastic piece of science and engineering. But will it drive fast through a big water puddle if granny and her two grandkids are walking next to?
I hope Elon does something to help with the power outages and flooding, at least for tesla customers. Maybe to rebalance some of the immature nonsense on X. Also will the flooding cause fires like saltwater flooding did in Florida....?
It's a pity that you don't have a drive by wire implementation of the drive wheel, that the only thing i don't like on Tesla cars with yoke option. I hope next models wil have this .
Thank you for the video! looks impressive! I have a couple of questions about the FSD. Do you how when we drive on the highway sometimes there are puddles of water and we slow down or change lanes so we wont drive straight into them which can cause loss of control over the car? Does the FSD do the same when it sees a water puddle? or does it drives into it and spalsh the water? Also, do you know how when there is a construction zone, and the lanes become narrow, and the road is alittle uneven, does the FSD slows down and keep the car under control or changes lanes, or does it drives through it making it super bumpy ride?
Wait.. I thought you had to keep hands on steering wheels with fsd. Also, is the future Americans eating burgers and watching youtube while riding their car?

I hope you post a video of the real hurricane, at it gives you a little more respect for weather. What is hitting LA is a light hurricane. You make it sound like a joke. The rain and wind you have now isn't the hurricane if it's 5 hours away.
Shame on you, you are in the middle of a major storm and peoples lives are in danger and you think you should be driving around town. When the state asks people to "Stay off the roads" , and you decide to go for a joy ride.
Showing people the true capabilities of FSD! Great as always Omar.

From watching your posts, I’m more sold on the yoke vs full wheel with each video! Great content as usual!
I don’t own a Tesla got a Audi but as a Tesla stock owner this is some impressive shit. Money well spent I’m impressed
you the man.... FSD during a hurricane storm... love it.
In the rain, you could set the max speed lower, just as you might if driving manually.
Who needs wipers with FSD? Save the power. :)
LOL :-)

Yes. Rain-x.
So, that's why the streets were so empty. Everyone's at In & out. 😅 Wishing you the best for the hurricane.

The burger surface area take was epic 😂. Amazed at how well it performed in bad weather.

Balls of steel for not turning on the wipers
Can’t wait until CyberTruck STORMCHASER FSD MODE.
Nice day to drive in the hurricane. FSD Beta for the win. :) Thanks Omar. Smart way to eat two burgers.

I agreed with the car. And for the very reason you articulated: What the hell is this guy thinking?
Idk how you can drive with the wipers on high like that. No way

I usually order the In&Out double double with grilled onions, less carb than two cheese burgers.
I thought you were going to Ralph’s till the last second😂
❤
FSD was like “Since I am driving, u dont need wipers” 😂
I think the humidity made In&Out taste even better.
FSD just really doesn't know what to do in parking lots, great up until the end there
As a Floridian, seeing people from California scramble to get supplies and stay indoors over a tropical storm is comical.

Good observation. Unless you’re about to be rear-ended, coming to a gradual stop is the safer option until you can be sure what the object is doing.
Would love to understand show depth perception works with vision. Engineering Rocks!
Is this FSD feature available to every tesla now? Thanks!

How do you get by not holding the steering wheel?
did Tesla remove the steering wheel nag??

He's cheating.
Notice, every now and then, he bumps his knee against the steering yoke.
Nobody drives, with their knees that high.

does FSD use ultrasonic sensors? im considering buy a used model y but was wondering if removing the USS on HWV4 would be "better" without having USS
Ultrasonics have been removed since before hardware 4. FSD uses nothing but cameras
@SyntheticSpy did hw 3 use uss for FSD?
wipers are nuts.
Hello, Why does the car always drive in the left lane?
So small rain without wind now people call hurricane?
How do you never touch the yoke and not receive prompts?
Hey i just subscribed to fsd but every 30 secs it asks me to put hand on Steering wheel, why doesnt it do that for you?
He's cheating
He's bumping his knee against the steering yoke (ever so slightly) to give you that 'hands free' effect
He has altered his car
More experienced FSD drivers get less nudges
Do it all for the science
How are you not getting wheel nags like the rest of us? Did Elon grant you a secret version of FSD?

As you ordered lol

He does that so that car won’t disengage. You have to keep a steady pressure on the steering will.
