    I own the Zebco Omega Z03, best reel I've ever tried. Everyone I fish near is confused and jealous at my casting distance and always wants to try it. I overpaid though, spent 100 on it at Dick's sporting goods. Wish I had maintained it a little better from the start. A year or two later, I get some snags in the reel when casting but I think it's my fault for not taking better care of it. If you don't like this model very much i can't imagine how it feels using a better version! Maybe time for me to upgrade? What's your favorite Zebco closed faced button pusher?

      Hello Tom, Thanks for writing! Yes, I really like the Platinum 33 but I have aligned the pins and springs better on my Omega and switched to 8lb smooth cast line and it’s been quite good since. I am actually using it on one of my pond rods currently. I was not really happy with my Omega when I got it, maybe it was just not what I was expecting. I got a very good price when I got it because it was included with a clearance model rod, so I think maybe $39 for the whole rig. Tight lines and Happy and safe 4th of July! Dave

    Dave ,whats the difference between 888 & 808?zebco

    • @MisterBigDave
      @MisterBigDave Год назад +1

      Hi Leroy, thanks for watching, caught the notice on my phone.. So the 808 is marketed as a Salt water model, the 888 as far as I know is not. But the 888 if you search I think has better bearings, the 808 has bushings. Pretty sure without searching all this is accurate.
      Both are very good but large and clumsy. I caught a nice 35+ inch striper in the river current on the 808 and it handled it well with a medium drag to play it out. Ya gotta us the drag on these Zebcos or you’ll snap the pins off. Cheers and tight lines! Dave

      I have the Omega, the spool oscillates so winds the line more balanced, I wasn’t a great fan in the beginning it has three pick up pins and I found it finicky. But after I changed to some different line 8 or 10 lb smooth cast it was much better. I also like the Platinum, I have a few, same thing line 10lb smooth cast is good, but I use 8 too. Cheaper, has two pins, good gears and bearings none have failed on me even after a few years now still running well. OK, good deal Tight lines!

    also are there any real advantages of the omega z03 pro reel over the omega z03?

      I can’t say because I only own and have used the regular one. Maybe an improvement in gears or weight, because Zo3 is heavy because front cone is milled. (At least it’s looks that way.).

    Great video. Just fyi vaseline is a petroleum jelly and can degrade plastics and rubbe. If it works for you then awesome. Just food for though.

      Thanks for watching. Yes, I pack my salt water reels with the blue favorite, used to be red ;))))))) Vaseline on the smaller stuff is easy to clean out with warm water and soap and redo.

    Dave,
    I have just found your channel, thank you. Like others i started fishing with a Zebco reel over 60 years ago. My fishing mentor once hooked and landed a 43 pound flathead catfish on "33". Yep that was before plastic parts. Thanks again for the good videos. By the way my new grandson will start with a??? Can you guess? Zebco!

      Hi John, as always thanks for watching!
      I think some people thinks it gums up the works, which has never ever been my experience. Also, it’s a fantastic rust inhibitor which you probably have found out yourself!
      All the best!

    Hey coffee man you crack me up you are so funny I really really enjoy this video and my question for you, is I am a blind fisherman! What real would you recommend? Please please keep up the good videos and they’re entertaining and I really do like them a lot! I mostly fish freshwater

      Hi Richard, thank you very much for the kind words. I always say if I can make somebody laugh then my day is complete!
      As for the right fit for a reel, I worked with a blind person and he always liked things that were tactile, things that he could feel what was going on and then knew almost instinctively how to make corrections. It’s hard to say, a spinning reel lets you feel the shape of the line on the spool and whether or not it’s laying on the spool correctly. On the other hand I would think a Zebco type push button could be easy unless it gets spooled up, where you would likely need a spare on hand to switch to. Let me know what you think about what you’ve been doing, I would be interested to know for sure.
      All the best and tight lines, Dave

      Big Dave Wilson Fishing and Outdoors thank you very much my good man! Very awesome to hear from you! When I catfish I prefer to use a spinning reel, when I best fish I prefer the ZIP Code 33, however, I am thinking about switching to a bait caster and Academy Sports And Outdoors brand that I just saw the other day that runs about $90! I think it’s called an H20, and it’s a bait caster reel, and the cool thing about it is it has magnetic braking system on the real so if you set the tension right you can cast all day long without back lashing however I have not put out the money to get it and try it yet!

    This reel is hefty like a tank, almost to the point it’s cumbersome. I prefer the Pro model over this one, but it’s still a very nice reel. Do you like the previous 33 Platinum All Metal or the current Authentic 33 Platinum shown on this video?

    • @bigdavewilsonfishingandout3777
      @bigdavewilsonfishingandout3777  5 лет назад +2

      Big Al , I like them all LOLOLOL!!!
      The new Platinum is a good caster especially if you switch to 8lb smooth cast line is really nice. The older authentic regular plastic body and platinum I have MANY miles on and a whole solid season of pond fishing with those almost exclusively. Both still work perfect, almost no glitches at all, same switch to 8lb smooth cast and they are fantastic.
      All the best, Dave

    Any idea why my zebco Delta make clicking sound while retrieving? Am I reeling against the drag? It's set pretty tight and fish are 2 to 3 pounds. Max. Appreciate any suggestions. Thx.

      Rich Dorak
      Hello Rich, thanks for watching!!
      It could just be the take up pins or one of them is a tad high and clicking against the front cover housing. That also makes a little scraping sound. If it is the drag, that's OK too because Zebcos with drag too tight can eventually damage the gears if sudden force isn't allowed to pull some drag etc. Hope this helps!! Dave

      Hi Wolf, thanks for watching, as for. Zo3 I like it in general, the only beef I have is the line getting hung up occassionally when casting which to me is attributed to having the three pins and with certain line, but it is a fine reel for sure. Whether the 25 Stren works out will show in time, so please report back after you’ve used it some and if you had any problems. In general ai like the “smooth cast’ lines they seem to lay out softer and less wirey. Braid for me has been very uncooperative and don’t recommend it at all on the Zebco but everyone’s end game is different and it might work for some applications without a problem. Stay safe out there! Dave

    Dave i bought a z03 after seeing you vid a while back, what is the pin problem?

    • @bigdavewilsonfishingandout3777
      @bigdavewilsonfishingandout3777  5 лет назад

      Hi Lee, thanks for watching and sharing your experience!
      For me after having used it for a while, I find that if the line is not absolutely perfect it hangs up while being casted. Even though the pins work properly, somehow the line catches up inside while casting. Once I change to fresh line or a little softer line, like Smooth Cast it’s fine again for a while. I just have much better luck and less hassle with the standard Platinum.
      Tight lines ;)))))))))

      @@bigdavewilsonfishingandout3777 Hi Dave, just curious about this issue. Is the line getting caught on the pins or up inside the spinnerhead? Mine works fine for several years now, it’s just heavy for my usual pond line up.
