This brought back so many memories for me. I used to work in a music store in 1976 and can remember when one of these came in and we were just amazed at what it could do and the sounds that we got from it. I stayed in retail till 1980 and lost count of how many we sold over the years. A very popular combo amp and now an industry icon for very good reason! Enjoy Tomo,... you deserve it!
I inherited my father's JC-120; looked it up and it's from 1978! Amazing amp, reminds me of my childhood. You've inspired me to plug it in this weekend and give it some love.
I have Roland Cube 30X since it first came. It has Jazz Chorus sound too. I like it has many sounds(modeling amp) and can't afford many amps. Never any faults. Good amp like JC-120. These amps like pedals too😎.
@@TomoFujitaMusic No problem! I share a content that caught my interest. Can you do a short video of you playing Metallica Clean Riffs, Preferably "One" by Metallica
I bought my JC-120 in 1982 at Guitar Center in Hollywood. The only thing I had to replace was the Power Chord! I’ve used it for Guitar, Bass and Vocals like a P.A. It still sounds great!!! I LIVE MY JC-120!!!🎶🥰🎶
I still have my JC120H which is the head version of this amp. I bought it when I was a teenager back in 1982 or 1983. This is such a classic amp. The chorus is very unique because internally the JC120 has two separate 60W amps each connected to a speaker. One of the speakers has the dry sound and the other has the output of the chorus without the dry signal. This is why no chorus pedals can sound like the chorus of this amp.
Lucky you. I have an old Roland Cube 100 guitar amp that is still one of my fallback reliable amps. At one time I gigged with it with no pedals and just loved the way my guitar sounded. It was a 'crutch' I leaned on many times. How I would love to find one of these that I could afford to own in my retirement years. Enjoy the good fortune of having such an outstanding tool.
The original ones with the flip switch for chorus were amazing. Thanks for bringing me back to those days. I paired it with an ibanez handmade in Japan semi hollow. Legendary sound.
JC120's are great and that will look great around the house. I wish companies would make a breakaway combo that allows amp and speaker sections to lift off and carry separately but also lock together to have the combo vibe.
Very nice! The Top as well. I still have the first run of the JC120. That beautiful sound 👍🏼 Thank goodness it stays in one spot. A beast to haul around. Congrats on the win!
Nice amp Tomo. I didn't realise that Roland still produced the JC series. My old JC77 (from back in the 1990s) still sounds great after so many years. Great unboxing. You are very brave to throw the box ( @ 3:26) - hope nothing was broken!! Thanks for sharing.
Hi there sir, i just got myself a jc-77, and i notice a hissing noise coming from the amp. Is that common or does your amp has hissing noise too? Thanks
Jeez. You plug it in and straight out of the box, instant jazz sound. Didn't even need a big box jazz guitar. Is the effects loop stereo? Noise? P90s in a room with a rheostat, maybe? Might need one of those power filter thingies for single coils in a house with old wiring. JC-120 is an amazing amp. Reverb, chorus and vibrato? 120 Watts? Takes pedals well? What's not to like. That case is awesome. Only downside is it is a hernia waiting to happen. At least it has casters but that probably won't help you get it in the car. Might want to buy a truck with a lift gate. Lol!
Looks and sounds awesome. Love the special coloring on these. Really wanted one but ... just don't need a 120 for playin at home :) Glad you were able to get one.
good vid, great amp, i had the same deal with my jc60 back in the 80's (back when the cosmos meant something), had to sell it and been kicking myself ever since. seriously though that amp is right up your ally. i.m looking forward to hearing it on future vids, thanks
I first saw a JC120 at a club in Boston, 1983 (Axis on Lansdown Street). Aztec Camera’s 1st American show; Roddy Frame was playing a 1950s, gold, Gibson ES-295 and an Ovation Balladeer; both a good match for the Roland. And what a great guitar player too!
Wow, Aztec Camera, I was very into their sound in the 80’s. Name I have not heard in a long time. I wrote and performed in their style along with other similar influences
@@That52TeleGuy That early 80s Postcard/Glasgow scene was really something! Orange Juice too. :). I love all the AC music-even the later, big label LPs.
I have and love a JC22, and I will add a JC40 if I ever need more volume. I‘m not sure I‘ll live long enough to warrant a JC120. You limited edition sounds great. Congratulations!
A Great solid state amplifier. In an era when most large amps were valve. Great clean of course. Add an EP booster pedal,. and an actual overdrive foot pedal with added preamp valves onboard. The JC weighs a tonne ..
I saw a video of you jamming with Marty Friedman, that was awesome! You guys both played great that night Tomo. Getting to hang out with Marty would be a dream come true.
I remember being very disappointed when I bought my first distortion pedal, the Metal Zone, and it just didn’t sound the same as it did in the shop. Of course that’s because in the shop the MT-2 was hooked up to a JC-120! That’s when I realized how much of a difference the quality of an amp and its speakers make.
I bet you are a blast opening gifts on Christmas.....😜 I like you telling about yourself... I had to sell my Marshall stack. Because Life... never been replaced yet....but we survive.... Someday I will replace it.... Very nice.... thanks 😎
For a solid-state amp they're Really heavy. That's why I sold my vintage Twin Reverb. I use an old Pro Reverb now and it's a bit more manageable. Fun unboxing vid Tomo!
Great playing and a great amp. For whatever reason the JC120 doesn’t get much love these days. Yeah it’s heavy, but it’s a great amp and the true chorus can’t be matched. Enjoy!!👍
I'm so weak about limited edition......lol Congratulations 😊 I have one that dates to april of 86 and that sucker is really really loud. I was wondering on your 86 if you get a loud pop explosion when turning on the amp. I was thinking about selling it a few years ago so i brought it to my local shop for service and they said that there's nothing wrong with it. I was told they just do that.
A friend of mine has one of these that belonged to James Hetfield’s dad, Virgil, that he is offering to sell me. After checking out a few videos here on RUclips, I really need to come up with the money to get it from him!
Sir, how do you practice on a daily basis with an amp that powerful? I have a JC-22 and it is LOUD, before buying it I tested the JC-40 in the store and I had to place the volume low in order for me to test it. On a different note, congratulations on your purchase, the story about having to sell your old amp was sad, I'm glad you got the new one for yourself. I am looking forward for more of your videos. As always, great video.
Oooh man i have my eye on the 40 watt version jc40 . I absolutely love stereo chorus and it is such a legendary amp. i want the 120 but the old ones are so big and heavy. Do you always buy a better power cable for your amps? Hard to beat the clean sound on these, and also the option to run stereo effects on one amp is really cool and i wish fender would do something similar on the twin reverb. Anyways thanks for the video.
I have enough money to purchase the 'non-anniversay' JC120. Apart from the red panels and the edition number what else am I losing from getting the 'ordinary version, built in the same year, and costs £600 - £800 less?
Curious what you think about the Fender American Professional II Stratocaster, Tomo. I've been eying one (mostly because I just love that Miami Blue!) and considering one so I don't take any of my vintage ones (most notably my 1965) out to jam.........but these new Fenders have some great reviews............
