I love this version the best. Zelah and Timothy are perfect in their roles. Also, the script is truest to Charlotte Bronte's book. 📙

There have been many actors who have played Edward Rochester . I have seen them all. Timothy Dalton's portrayal of Charlotte Bronte's character is is superb . It delivers a man just as I imagined him to be in everyway after reading Bronte's classic many times . Timothy Dalton was a very talented actor not to mention a very handsome man . To be honest I think he was so underrated, because he was every bit as good as Sir Lawrence Olivier . Thank you for the movie .

I agree with you about Timothy Dalton's portrayal of Rochester. He makes my bones turn to jelly! I've come to love the Bronte and Austen heroes, and I wish we saw more of them portrayed in quality films.

@@karenwhite1718 "Quality films" Oh dear, I think they may be a species that died off a good while back now. Hollywood today makes me sick. I just about live on RUclips trying to track down good films to watch. I too love the Bronte and Austen novels and the characters they brought to life within them. Timothy Dalton has always been a great actor I think he played Heathcliff too in Emily Bronte's novel "Wuthering Heights". I thought he made a fantastic James Bond as well, much better than many of the others that followed Sean Connery. Timothy was an amazing talent. Thank you for your reply. Cheers , have a good day .

@@andrewmiller4885 Thank you for your thoughtful reply to my post about Timothy Dalton, JANE EYRE, quality films, etc. I love a good film adaptation of a beloved novel. Sometimes they are even better than the book (not often, but sometimes!) For instance, the 1940 adaptation of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is true to the spirit of the book while not being slavish to the actual language or all the plot elements. I especially like how they portrayed Lady Catherine deBourge as a comic figure, and how she actually helps Darcy to determine how he might be received on a second try with Elizabeth. I hope the 2011 version of JANE EYRE will compare favorably with the Timothy Dalton piece. I've ordered it for Christmas! Good day to you, and blessings!

after watching the 1973 mini series with Sorcha Cusack and Michael Jayston I had to change my mind - that adaptation (1973) is the best. Unfortunately it is blocked on YT. Michael Jayston is the best Mr. Rochester, the most sophisticated and charismatic one and their chemistry was sizzing. I still like T. Dalton very much, as Mr. Rochester (he also was a wonderful Heathcliff in 1970) but, by comparison, he is too emphatic and too sure of himself. Michael Jayston has found the key to the heart and soul of this character.

Timothy Dalton was born to play Bronte heroes. He has that kind of smouldering itensity those classic roles demand, and he's not afraid to use it! He's not only the best Rochester, he's the most terrifying, most heartbreaking Heathcliff as well, the no-holds-barred Heathcliff of Emily Bronte's passionate imagination.

    • @Iatraviata69

This novel and the adaption is the point of view by Jane and she descripts, more and more falling in love , how beautiful he is for her. You see him through her eyes.
The main theme of the novel is : that beauty doesn t matter. That only love creates real beauty. And the beauty without soul, heart and character is worthless. So what matter how he looks. I know women who doesnt find Dalton handsome but characterful.
He has the full black hair, the wide ravenblack brows, the edgeful sharp face, the cleft chin, beautiful (not black) eyes, dark beautiful voice etc. So even his Looks is similar to the book despite of doesnt matter of it.
The most literatur and also Opera adaptions aren t have respect and today casts all beautiful, whether its descript or not. But with a plain, characterless fashion beauty, where all looking like cloned and replacable, and which you don t recognize again.
And look to the other Rochesters and Janes. Which one is really ugly or not handsome or not pretty?! You won t find actors today, which don t fulfull beauty standard, because they aren t anymore admitted when they are not to sell. That s more important today as talent and skill end such acting, riding, fighting, voice and declamation education this generation still had.

Ah, 18 has to be the worst age for most people!! I was eviscerated emotionally at 18 too. And then I was just supposed to move on instantly as if nothing had changed in me.Yes, I can move on and hope everyone is happy, but "life" can be so harsh!
To be clear, I was not physically sexually abused, didn't think about that, but my soulmate was ripped away from me based on race, suddenly and forever. I'm good now though, and see that everyone is good, many years later, just carrying the scars, by the special gifts God gives. God can turn well-intentioned pain into weapons for human motivation.

Tal vez el libro hablaba de personas poco agraciadas, lo que no se condice con los actores , personajes principales. I've wondered why so many British shows and movies, at least years ago, were filmed that way. It's really hard to get into the story when the sound is do strange. It feels too much like you're there or you're watching a play to suspend disbelief.

Did Jane have second sight. She told Rochester about another dream about the hall being burned down. He mentioned his ths after he was trying to convince her the tearing of veil that it was just a dream.

What is Mr R. asking Jane about the painting, I can't make it out despite 12 listenings. Is it whether she has her head on her shoulders?
    - I hope I can distinguish informality from insolence, liking the one but no free spirit would endure the other for any salary in the world.
    - I'll mentally shake your hand for that answer, although it is wrong Dread Remorse when you are tempted to err, Miss Eyre. Not a young woman in 3000 would give such an answer!
