A good way to capture emails: "Mail -> Services -> Omnifocus: send to inbox". You will get a new task in the inbox, and in the task note will be a link back to the email for context.
Thanks. I think now that I will do an episode showing it but I promised to say here. So what I do is have a shortcut that asks me the various questions like the date, the workshop and so on. There are several little lists in the shortcut and it fills them out with the answers so that I end up with one piece of text that has all of my tasks for that workshop in a format called TaskPaper. For example, when I have to write a document ten days before a workshop, the TaskPaper entry says: “Write XYZ document @due(sessiondate -10d).” The shortcut passes all of the text to OmniFocus which then works out what 10 days before the workshop date is and adds each task to the right date. Once you’ve done this once, it makes sense and - most importantly for me - you can change it easily to fit different workshops. And while it took me a time to understand how to do it and then to work through what tasks I wanted when, the result is that I now never forget to add a task and it is always there when I need it. Love this stuff. Thank you for letting me enthuse.
Great show! I'm going to have to explore how you put your shortcut lists together. It would be great if there was a way to create a template in OmniPlan that back times from a particular end date and apply that to list of tasks in a schedule template to any new [project] that comes up. In any case, I'm a heavy user of OmniPlan and OmniOutliner who's studying how you use OmniFocus, which up to now I've only been a light user of.
Have you looked into Omni Automation yet? I've seen that it's now available in all the Omni apps, I think, and I've read a lot about it but not actually tried writing any scripts yet. I bet there's a growing group of OmniPlan users who are, though, so if you look around the Omni Group's forums you might be able to find someone who's already figured out how to do all of this.
Hi Wiiliam, can you tell which app/ software i can use fori format my book?. I work in Scrivener, than i have to put enverything in a nother app to format. But which app can i use for format? Greetings Thomas :) Leipzig-Germany
Hans, you sound like you're self-publishing, am I right? You need to end up with a PDF and Scrivener can do that. It's better on the Mac than on iPad for precise formatting, though, and I have found it fiddly even there. When I've done it for clients, I've designed the book in Adobe InDesign. I'm expecting to do another one for them in a few months and I'll try out Affinity Designer for that.
Hans Glück You could take a look at Vellum for Mac: I like it very much for producing books more than writing directly into it, but you can. vellum.pub
Sorry, I was certain I'd replied to this but I can't see my comment. Yes: this week's 59keys will be about setting up that shortcut. Thanks for asking.
Thank you. That tip about highlighting a portion of the email before forwarding was golden.
You're welcome. I still remember the day I was shown that myself: must've used it thousands of times since.

I should make a keystroke to do that, thank you. My muscle memory has me forwarding the email into the inbox before I think of it, though.
Thanks for this. Would like to see more about your workshop Shortcut please.
