I like your personality! Positive side notes are: great video quality, great music taste (in my opinion, have watched some of your other vids) lovely audio gear and yeah. Your chill as hell. Subscribed. 💪🏽😎
Just saw this sale and wondered what to roll with. Knew you'd steer us right, Jef. Great stuff! Pretty new to all this but after 20 years in a 3D creative industry, I'd forgotten how art can be naively playful. Starting with music at this late stage (40s) has reminded me that not everything has to be a survival tactic. I don't have to be good at this. I think maybe taking that pressure away is making me more successful at it. In any case, I'm having a blast and greatly appreciate your channel.
I just got Rudiments, Duets and Utopia. I have most of the Play Series now, and I use them a lot. I really like Rudiments. Nice video, always entertaining and informative.
Hi Jef. I like NI products but now their performance are getting worse and worse. I have powerful PC and for example, Kontakt 7 standalone and VST loading in over a minute ( when Kontakt 6 loading in 2 sec.) Native Access has loading issues in every update. Maschine software hasn't been updated for ages. Now it looks like it's quantity over quality. I think I will spend my money on something different, maybe like MPC. Anyway, great video as always. Cheers
Another cracking video, thanks, Jef. One Q: The velocity curve (in settings) on Utopia (the only Play Series instrument here) seems unresponsive, i.e. my midi keys (no matter how gently they're hit) play every note at the same level, whereas other NI instruments (e.g. Scarbee vintage keys) respond to a player's strokes as one would expect. Do you experience something similar? Any tips on this, please? All the best!
Just tried it... you're right! Velocity isn't tied to volume by default, which seems strange to me... but could be done in the sound tab. Click on the velocity button under modulation, then go to volume and drag it up! you'd have to do it on both layer a and b if they aren't linked with the little chain.
@@jefgibbons Wow I am super impressed with how quickly you both solved and replied to this comment. Thanks so much for helping out... Above and beoynd, good sir!
I haven't bought the rudiments series yet, but I like the sound of that opening snare in the demo. It seems like it's just right for east coast hip hop.
Not really :( Does basic stuff, and Kontakt 7 works fine with it (browser and controls etc) Doesn't do mixer, or transport controls yet (Yeah, I'm bummed about that too!)
Does any of the NI Play Series allow you to use your own samples like Arcade does. NI Play Series seems to be a lot better value than Arcade even if it doesn't let you use your own samples. But it would not even be close if they allowed your own samples
In some ways these kinds of instruments strike me as more ideal for highly interactive music listening rather than for creating original music for publishing. And hours of fun can be had messing around with these sonic snippets and patterns without ever spending a thought on publishing. Buying this rather than some mediocre album might be a more enjoyable music related experience for the right individual.
I always find nothing for myself : I make Industrial EBM music and NI only made one somewhat usable sound expansion ( Body Mechanik ) we the Rivet Heads get zero attention : I believe MOEV and Frontline Assembly are Canadian .... Cheers 🥂
Yes!! Lots of cross pollination with some of my local music idols as a kid!! MOEV… Nettwerk, one of my best friends went on to work at Nettwerk when we were really young, great success story.
@@nukenoly8751 Yes, 80's 90's EBM era had been completely ignored : whatever I was able to find are Industrial Techno backs But I did manage to find a few out there: I suppose one can find suitable sounds within Synthwave and cyberpunk stuff : 242 was 90% E-MU EMULATOR, they've used 4 of them : check out : MESH - DIORAMA and MIND IN a BOX Cheers 🥂
Gotta distort, manipulate and resample the tame stuff to make it aggro, lol. It's unfortunate that their expansions are primarily house/EDM focused as they could really clean up with some quality industrial, synthwave and IDM content. Maschine is my main sampler/sequencer for my hw synths and makes for a great sketch/perform hub for my setup, but I have to make most of my own samples and kits. NI does have some great soft synths, tho.
@@billybartcody3591 Of course my friend : I went back to REASON just for that reason (NPI) because of all the players and RE sequencers : I finally found a perfect tool : I'm just waiting for REASON to implement clip mode and then to the moon Alice ! 😁 I just want to stick with one DAW period Over the years I've collected enough to sustain my needs : but the problem with all the companies such as NI and others, there's never continuation with anything, never a Body Mechanik Vol 2 - 3 - 4 _ You get my disappointment by now : and finally Maschine, I believe they don't focus on it anymore as much as they do on their goofy Kontakt players : That EBM heads or Hard Trance heads have no use for : Like they say in NYC there are 500 ways to flip a sample 😎 ... I can go on and on and on : Cheers 🥂

Fun watching the ever evolving parade of equipment on your desk!
Different for every video ;) but the Osmose is my fave right now!

I like 40 drums and keys, Bazzazian Tapes, Karriem Riggins, Utopia, Glaze, and Duets. All super usable for me.
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome As Always, Jef ! Much appreciated . . . THANK YOU.
Thank you Matt!
Where did you get the wood case/rack for your white drum machine sitting on your desk?
I should have a link in the description

Komplete 15 on the way!
Oh yeah
Definitely you can smell it's just around the corner..I think it will coincide with maschine 3
@@djjuno106 I hope you're right about Maschine 3... we need it desperately!
yes, October this year most likely, two year release.
I need it like yesterday 😅😅😅😅
The EDM track in the Utopia section was killer!
I was surprised how great it was! Forgot about that one ;)
@@jefgibbons cool! Keep up the good work
The new NI keyboard works with maschine now?

Go back to the black Frame of the Glasses ;-)
Nice t shirt. I miss Marty McFly.
