WHY RIDE A HARDTAIL MTB FOR TRAINING?

- So why exactly would anyone want a hartail instead of or as well as their full-on Enduro bike? Well we explain the differences as you are likely to discover going from full bounce to a rigid rear end, as the Stanton Switch 9er is taken for it's virgin Jim-ride around Cannock Chase.

Props for talking Leanne around that climb Jim, the patience of having kids shines through!
I'm late to the hardtail party myself but I've been hammering one all winter and it's been a real eye opener. Such a good Winter bike, I love the direct power response and stiffness.
I love the fact that you are actually following the dog
Huge!! True MTB:er knows HTs are not dead, always love hopping on my HT. After some good ol HT shred its so lovely to hop on the full sus!
nice , been on a hardtail for four years now they are so underated , remember steel is real. keep it pinned!!!!!!!!!!!
After a nice wet slippery and fun ride this morning ive realised I'm not missing the dry summer trails at all. 🤙👊
Nice one Jim. Hardtail do look like a fun winter training option. Something I’m going to look into in the new year. Those Stanton frames are super nice! 👌🏼. Those foam jackets for the GoPro don’t help that much. If you can make a fleece sock to go over the foam, you’ll get better results. 🤘🏼
Hardtails are awesome. I picked up a Cotic BFe a couple of months ago and love it. I use it for most of my riding and keep the full squish for big days out / rougher terrain.
Finished building my Ragley BigWig the weekend after I saw you guys at Pedalhounds at Penshurst. It’s a similar spec to that Stanton with 160 forks, 29er wheels although I cut the bars down to 180mm
And I love it!!! I’ve got a full suss, a gravel bike & a fat bike but the ‘Wig is the only bike I’ve ridden for the last 2 months.
Thinking of entering the Hardtail category in next years Pedalhounds
Good luck with 180 bars! 🤣 #typo
Don't get the gravel bike thing mate, hardtail is all you need hey!!
Pinned TV Hahah 180... yeah typo. 😂
Many uses for the Gravel bike, home is a 20min drive to the nearest trails but I can get quite a lick on on short road sections from my front door to bridle paths & gravel tracks (I hate road riding, so the sooner it’s over the better)
It means I can put in miles and still have fun doing something different & going different places without chewing up the nice soft knobbles on my Magic Mary
I also work 12hr shifts, 30miles from home and have a gym at work so when I can’t ride MTB I can take the gravel bike in, slap on a turbo wheel & get paid for turbo training during office hours 😉
But when all’s said n done it’s really an N+1 that I don’t need but enjoy and when the wife said “What’re you getting this year on the cycle to work scheme” I took it as permission for another bike and went for it... glad I did.
My instagram is @jonboy1066 if you wanna see it and the rest of the fleet at play 👍🏽
Always had a Hardtail as a trainer and a pool bike for me lads! But when you get back on the full suss it's like having a new mattress on your bed👍
Sonny back on the bike 3 weeks after breaking his leg. Double hard bastard.
I’ve got a full suspension and a orange crush and the difference between them is amazing
Staton, the best. I have a hardtail and the sensations are purer than with a double suspension. I combine a Transition Covert and a Commençal Meta HT AM.
Good to see sunny back on the bike.
Sweet HT
Great to see you over cannock Jim 🤙🏻
Got to love the off piste at Cannock 🙌🏻
Ace vid Jim thanks bud and that Stanton what a fantastic bike.
Cracking video .
I run a ht around now untill the weather gets better next year .
Mainly because the stage 6 I have gets well looked after even though there's little maintenance scraping the calderdale grinding paste off a 2k ht is less of a chore than my stage 6 that costs considerable amount more .
The first thing you notice is the gears .no suspension affecting the clutch means gears run crisper .
Orange have worked hard on the single pivot but you still notice the clutch affecting the suspension.
I run a ns eccentric djambo 29er nice not too silly 65ha and it flies.
It's never going to be as fast or as comfortable as the full bounce but it's a great deal of fun all the same .keep it pinned 🐕
that bike is beautiful, classy hardtail, 100% mtb. And with a REALLY WORKING mudguard!
That bike looks bloody excellent Jim. 👍
Hardtail or nothing... Full suspension are for the ones that can't cope...
I hope you ride a rigid fork too, like a real man!
I use hardtail 29er now its fun. Rolls over stuff easy.
Hardtails rule Jim... haven’t watched yet but I. Why you have a blast!!!
Should have said bet you have a blast - thats what happens when you are up too early watching MTB vids!
I’ve got a orange 5 and a ragley Marley hard tail I use the hard tail all the time only time the 5 comes out is when I go up black rocks or when we go to Innerleithen for a week 👍👍🚵🚵🇬🇧🇬🇧
I'm 37 and never owned a full suspension. Ride a Cotic BFe now, steel is real!
I pretty much always ride my Production Privee hardtail over my Cotic Rocket. Love a bit of hardtail schralpin' 👍👊
Ive only been mountain biking around 2 years and only had a hard tail been thinking of trying a full suss but not sure.
Hardtails are the boss !!!
I’m a complete beginner and am looking to get my first MTB, just wondering is it recommended to have the seat as high as you have it or just preference?
If you have the money, definitely get a dropper post that you can raise when you climb and lower when you descend, all while continuing to pedal. If you have a regular seat post and are just riding normal singletrack, keep your seat in the pedaling position (you should be able to put your heal on one of the pedals and have your leg straight while sitting). If you set the seat low to be more comfortable on the downhills, when you get to the uphills, you will start to get knee pain after a while. I figured that out the hard way. If there is a long descent ahead, you can always stop and lower the seat.
You can have steerer tubes replaced. It’s not witchcraft.
Check out ND Tuned.
How well does this bike ride on XC style trails? Does it feel out of place when not pointed downhill?
6:30 am! Who’s up at 6:30 watching RUclips? Oh me!!
Who set it for the wrong 6.30? Me!!!
Love that bike 👍👍
Sean Benn is back!
Why not replace the CSU? the stem is still cheaper but a CSU will give more flexibility as to stack height.
CSU?
@@PinnedTV Crown Steerer Unit. So you'd be replacing the stanchions and the steerer tube for a new one, so a full rebuild of the fork but then you can mount the stem with as much spacers as you want or if the new frame has a mahoosive headtube. More expensive but if its a RS then it probably creaks anyways!
Also HT are absolutely boss in the mud, its like skiing.
Good stuff
Is that the Reynolds or the CRomaly?
Reynolds
Got a full susser and a hardtail. My full susser does EVERYTHING better, even climbing, although I still love my Slackline hardtail.
what is the standard of the rear wheel, boost?
I see an enduro HT podium with Jim and Sonny on it.
Is steel better than aluminium
I'm hardtails and jump bikes it's more forgiving
Nice bike !!
Witness the fitness
Ian's done some Miles this week 😁
15:29 What song is starting here ? My Shazam won't tell me..
Where did you guys go towards the end? After Lower Cliff? I didn't recognise any of those sections back to the carpark.
No off to the right of the last trail just after the camping area
@@PinnedTV So you go through the campsite, then right and past the start of "Son of a chain slapper"?
Yeh, just down past there and it's on your left
Can you run 27+ in the frame?
Maybe just about get away with it, best to check with Stanton though info@stantonbikes.com 🤘
is it a 27.5 or 29er
29
29 are fast!!!!!!!!
Hardtail s have more fun.
