You can remove the right side gas tank trim pretty easily, and it gives easy access to the gas tank vent lines
Nice! Good pointer
Life saver with this comment.
You are officially the Yamaha r7 godfather 🔱
🙏 bro
Followed this exactly. My plugs died at 6866 miles. Heavy misfire while riding and die at idle. Now runs smooth.
That’s crazy they went out that quick but glad the vid helped and it’s good now
Thanks for making this! With your helpful videos, I've managed to perform all of my own R7 maintenance. I replaced my first plugs at 8k miles (15 months ago), and had to do a lot of guessing as there were no tutorials for R7 back then. Just replaced my ~ 16k plugs and your video helped it go smoothly. I just couldn't reach/re-attach those damn breather hoses, so ended up removing the right side tank cover. Thanks again and keep the great videos coming! (brake pads next? 😉)
Nice dude, glad it worked out. Yea pads, fluid change and steal braided lines with abs delete is coming up next
Wow! Id rather spend the money. Or just avoid R7's alltogether.
Yea, not the easiest thing to do at all. Glad you watched it and you know if you want to tackle it or not!
I don't need plugs yet, but this video will be super helpful in the future. Thanks Scout! Great job!
Thanks bro
Great video Scout, it seems very time consuming to change the spark plug, but as always you have explained it perfectly and simplified it with awesome shots for many other mechanics. Thanks for sharing and have a great week mate. Ride on🤙
Thanks ck, yes it’s quite the process
can see you took your pillion pegs off? would you recommend getting blanking plates or just leave it?
I just left it
Oh alot of work. Out of curiosity, what would a garage charge?
Yea it is man, not sure what they would charge but I’m sure it ain’t cheap
Nice job on the tutorial. Made it straight forward. Going to have to change my plugs on my Ninja 400 soon enough. Kind of laughing at some of the comments about it being a pain in the ass. Like you, I would rather work on my bikes myself. The spark plugs are not too bad just time consuming. The right tools are a big help too. Thats why I really like these videos, shows that you can do a lot of it yourself and buying tools is part of the deal. Great job on the video again! Your editing was awesome on this as well! The highlighting and pointing out where the push plugs and bolts were was extremely helpful!
Thanks man I really appreciate it!
Love your videos bro. Gives us hope to do our own work. Have you done, or will you do a video on that bass ass lighting setup you have? That’s a must have!!
Thanks bro, which lighting are you taking about? The rear of the bike?
@@ScoutsOut The engine under glow. Looks so suck. I hope you do a vid on that 😎
Dang man, it would be cool to have a kit, I tried one last year and it sucked. I just put these blue pucks in the bike to add some color in the vid
May I ask, is that a Clymer manual? I find the Haynes with their black and white photos are a bit dated..
It’s from Yamaha, only other company name I see on it is printed be crestec
@@ScoutsOut thanks 🙏👍. And changed my tires on R7 today thanks to your info also. Great feeling doing it alone
Really appreciate this video. I got lots of helping from your video this earlier year when I got my new r7 for changing wind screen and r6 mirror. Not to mention oil exchange. Haha. Now it's time to replace air filter and spark plugs. There was no any information about that especially spark plugs replacement on the internet till you posted it. It's really helpful. Thank you. From South Korea
glad to hear it man, it takes alot of effort to make these vids and im glad they are helpful. cheers!
Finally I did today. Thx for again :)
why does he put grease on all the plugs?
It’s dielectric grease and it keeps water out, metal from corrosion, keeps the seals in the plugs from getting brittle from heat. Long term great idea on all vehicle electrical connections…. Sry for needing out lol
Nice, this video will come in handy in a few more miles...
Perfect! Cheers bud
That's not easy at all😮
Haha no not the easiest of jobs for sure
Hello Scout, I’ve noticed just recently that my r7, the iddle goes to high towards 3000 rpm when turning on .. then proceeds at normal iddle speed around 1250/1300, is it normal? Since before I’d would go straight to normal and stay like that
When the bike is cold it will high idle for a min or so. I just checked mine and it going to 2k for 30-45 sec before resuming normal idle and that is normal. As for 3k, that seems a little high but it could have to do with elevation or temps possibly
What a drama getting to plugs these days... I think the manufactureres do it all on purpose so more people take thhe bikes in f´too get done... But anyways...
Great job on the vid as always Scout... And don't think I didn't see the e-bike luking in the back there!! :D
Yea bro, not the easiest of jobs I’m sure they do that on purpose lol… haha man I’m loving the new e-bike lol
Wow very good
Thanks bro
Where did you buy your repair manual at?
I got it from Yamaha. I think it was around $80.
@@ScoutsOut thank you! Do you remember where on the yamaha website to look at?
Guess I was wrong, I got it here www.partzilla.com/product/yamaha/LIT-11616-35-01
Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing all these maintenance videos. These are extremely helpful. Did you try to lotería the torque on the oil screw? I remember there were some concerns on that. On another topic it would be great watch another video on how to lubricate the clutch, gear, etc thanks again! Love your videos
Glad it was helpful, I haven’t seen anything different on the drain bolt torque, but I’m sticking with 17ish. I did just add one with a magnet and hole for tie wire for the track which will be the best route imo. I’m be putting some more maintenance vids together especially with it being winter now it’s to cold for most to ride
Does the fuel tank need to be empty before removing the lines? TIA
No you are good with the quick disconnect, it will only leak a little
all I can say is finally; been waiting for this video
Haha hopefully it helps bro
Thank you! Is there any chance that you are going to film an airbox removal and installation for the R7?
Yes there is, I’m planning on getting the gosh airbox so I will video it for sure
@@ScoutsOut Thank you! I look forward to that one. Your videos are a big help.
Dumb question but I was wondering if you need to have an empty tank for this?
No it can have fuel in it, the quick disconnects will only spill out a little fuel
@@ScoutsOut thank you so much!!!
😂 I was thinking I'm going to comment the parts price vs labor cost at a shop then 10 seconds later you said how it would be expensive because how involved it is at a shop. I mean it is a pain in the ass job like it needs plugs time to sell it 😂
😂 yea it’s not an easy job, there is a reason we pay mechanics but if your a patient person you can do it lol
@@ScoutsOut I used to love working on 2 stk dirt bikes so easy you can do everything then the 4stk dirt bikes made it way more complicated and street bikes they just don’t make sense it’s like they don’t expect anyone to work on them with the chassis body panels set up just make it a few big pieces and a few strong mounting points, pop the big pieces off full access but no 😂 I guess race body pieces might be better but I’ve never had them to know. 🤙🏼
Yea dude I hear ya man, they make it a pain now. I was thinking the whole time how much easier this would be with my race body work on it lol
What a pita , my gsxr was really nice to work on , R7........not so much.🤬
Yea bro, it’s quite the job for a spark plug change
@@ScoutsOutI've never seen so many wire ties on a bike , they are everywhere on the bike. 😐
Haha yup, quite the project to work on this thing sometimes
You are just the best, thank you 💪🏼🫡
Glad it helped 🍻
Thank you on this video, helped me out quite a bit.
Nice, glad it was helpful. Happy holidays
@@ScoutsOut happy holidays! will be using your fork oil video in five days also! was planning it after watching so much Dave moss.
Nice, man it was such a big difference. I honesty was scared to the R7 back to the track without doing inserts to fix the forks but the oil change was huge and im not planning on doing inserts until i reach the limits of them. Good luck on the fork job and let me know what you think
Changed the oil, such a dramatic difference. I was also scared when taking my R7 to the track and actually crashed due to the suspension. My mechanic friend I was with believed I wasn't fast enough to dial it in from default,. I hit the bump on T1 Road Atlanta causing it to low side shortly after. I now have a designated track bike now. The front forks caused such a see-saw motion at lean I felt when I dialed it in at another track and never felt confident on it. After this oil change I am sure that I will get almost the same confidence as my track bike. If this hadn't sorted out my issue, I was going to sell it and buy a zx4rr.@@ScoutsOut
Nice, thats awesome it worked out and scary you crashed before. The r7 scared me on the track several times with the front forks, im lucky I didn’t go down as well.
THE SPARK PLUG BOOT ISNT COMING OFF😭😭😭
Nooo man it was a pain in the oss to get the second one off, it’s so buried but not to bad once I moved the mount back a little.
Just try and be nice with it, could try and spin it both ways just a little to get it to release before you pull up
@@ScoutsOut after struggling with it for maybe an hour i had a buddy with stronger grip pop it out like it was nothing :)
Haha, yea bro it’s frustrating
Wow thats crazy.. my 1982 honda turbo takes 60 seconds each. Good job though.
Haha yea man it’s kinda a pain
