On my '12 E70 xDrive35i both fill and drain are in the rear (ATC 450 stamp on transfer case). The fill plug is in a very, very tight space and difficult to access.
Nice video, I would like to know few stuffs, it is on the driver side after the transmission? Do you lift the x5 front behind? Or you work directly under lol, if lifted on one side, does the oil get drained more then what it should be when the vehicle is straight , thanks
You can do this with the X5 on level ground (directly) otherwise, use 4 jack stands but not necessary. If you lift one side to drain (only 2 stands) then be sure it is level before filling!!! The plug is above the cross member shown, technically in front of the transmission.
You are doing the reset the proper way. I think you may have old version Rheingold. New version tells you it is calibrating and you can even hear sounds coming from TC as it does that.
Which site did you bought the hex wrench connection tools from ? I'm looking everywhere and still can't get them. If it is possible, could you send the link where to purchase the hex wrench tool set please.

I have a 06 X5 3.0 and I want to change the transfer case and differentials fluids but I don’t have that software. My question is do I really need to have the software to rest the transfer case or I just can change fluids without the software?
Ok thanks for your quick response I really appreciate it’s my first time doing this work so I’m not familiar with any software for this vehicle I just got the car from an older lady but I don’t know if she has the fluids changed so I want to do it b4 is too late.

No noise that I'm aware of if it is at the proper level. However, easiest first attempt is to replace the fluid then move on to other potential culprits if noise persists.

For those with e70 diesels, both the fill and drain plug are on the forward side of the transfer case, at least that's how it is on my '12 X5d.
On my '12 E70 xDrive35i both fill and drain are in the rear (ATC 450 stamp on transfer case). The fill plug is in a very, very tight space and difficult to access.
My 11 35d drain bolt was on the back side (rear of car) and the fill was on the front side (front of car).
I must say you have some of the best instructional videos out there. Thank you.
I hope this also applies to the diesel 35d e70 model.
Superb How-To w/ valuable commentary details all along the way! Thanks a lot!

Where'd you get the Hex tool kit?
Great video Where did you get that set of hex wrench connection? Thank you.

Thanks. And what about front differential? I got noise from front differential.
Hi, what model year is your car? Greetings from France🇫🇷🥖 Peter
2008
Thanks👍 Peter
Does the front and rear differential take the same fluid?
No, you have to check the OEM numbers.
Do you remember how much transfer case fluid you had left?
400mL
ok, i just found it weird when i had about the same amount left. The bad part is howling noise is still there:(
Igor Avdeev Hey Igor, how did U sort out the howling noise eventually. I'm about to change my oil but worried the noise will remain
Muzi Makhudu the noise is still there, i just got used to it :) i might have an issue with the ac pump, howling noise is there only when ac is on.

Transfer oil , 700ml or 1l ?
Juan A. Rodriguez 700ml I believe. Bottle amount is 1L so you should have 300ml left over

Thanks brother good info thanks
is there a noise associated with worn fluid?
No noise that I'm aware of if it is at the proper level. However, easiest first attempt is to replace the fluid then move on to other potential culprits if noise persists.
Service Engine Soon Mechanic thank you, by chance are you familiar with a metallic knocking noise and comes from either the front or the rear only while accelerating?
Not sure on that one. Driveshaft bearing or loose mount (engine, tranny, exhaust). Will need to put on a lift and wiggle things
Along with driveshaft support bearing, check the guibo for deterioration
