1954년에 미국인 선교사 도익서(都益瑞:C.D.Stokes)가 감리교 대전신학원으로 설립하였다. 교훈은 진리, 사랑, 봉사이다. 1957년 4년제 문교부학력인정학교인 감리교 대전신학교로 개편되었다가 1965년 감리교 대전신학대학으로 승격되었다. 1972년 교명을 목원대학으로 변경하였고, 1993년 종합대학으로 승격되었다. 1996년 지금의 위치에 새 교사를 건설하기 시작하였고 1999년 이전하였다.
2014년 기준 8개 대학(신학대학, 인문대학, 공과대학, 테크노과학대학, 사회과학대학, 음악대학, 미술·디자인대학, 사범대학), 1개 학부(TV·영화학부)가 있으며, 5개 대학원(일반대학원, 신학대학원, 언론광고홍보대학원, 교육대학원, 산업정보언론대학원) 등이 있다. 부설 교육기관으로 평생교육원, 국제교육원, 목회교육원이 있고 부속기관으로 생활관·대학신문사·영자신문사·대학방송국 등이 있다. 대학 부설연구소는 사회과학연구소, 인문과학연구소, 테크노과학연구소, 신학연구소 등이 있다.
Mokwon University
In 1954, an American missionary, Do Ik-seo (C.D. Stokes) was established as a Methodist Theological Seminary in Daejeon. The lessons are truth, love, and service. In 1957, it was reorganized into Methodist Daejeon Theological Seminary, a four-year school accredited by the Ministry of Education, and was promoted to Daejeon Theological Seminary in 1965. In 1972, the school name was changed to Mokwon University, and in 1993, it was promoted to a university. Construction of a new teacher was started in 1996 at the current location and moved to 1999.
As of 2014, there were 8 colleges (theological colleges, humanities colleges, engineering colleges, techno science colleges, social sciences colleges, music colleges, art and design colleges, teachers' colleges), and one faculty (TV and English chemistry departments), and five Graduate schools (graduate school, graduate school of theology, graduate school of media advertising and public relations, graduate school of education, graduate school of industrial information journalism), etc. Affiliated educational institutions include Lifelong Education Center, International Education Center, and Pastoral Education Center, and affiliated institutions include dormitories, university newspapers, English newspapers, and university broadcasting stations. University-affiliated research institutes include the Social Science Research Institute, the Humanities Research Institute, the Techno Science Research Institute, and the Theological Research Institute.

The location is 127°14'-127°33' east longitude and 36°10'-36°29' north latitude. It covers an area of 539.98 square kilometers and has a population of 1.58,775 (as of 2015). There are 5 districts and 79 administrative dongs (177 legal dongs) as administrative districts. The city hall is located in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon.

목원대앞이라니,,,, 과거에 거기에 미술대회가 있어서 아이들 델고 매년 한번씩 목원대를 갔었답니다..
