      All I had ever thought of was the same amount front and back. If you added or removed equally from front and back, then you would have to adjust the sleeve because you have changed the circumference of the armhole/armscye ?

      Yes, if you trim off length front and back, you'll have to make a like adjustment to the sleeve cap... Here's a tutorial showing how to adjust the ease of the cap... vs adding to the height of the cap ruclips.net/video/-m76yVt6q2I/видео.html

    Thank you for this awesome tutorial. I’ve been doing the slope adjustment in the opposite position😅. Now I know the extra amount should be added to the back instead of the front. Thank you so very much!😊❤

    This is wonderful……thank you, I feel it was just for me! I’ve been (wrongly now I know) doing a petite adjustment and then as arm too small I’ve been making a ‘gusset’ under my armhole! Now I know what to do…I shall try the forward thrusting shoulder alteration…thank you again! Hope your sunburn isn’t painful, keep applying cream, tons of it as frequently as possible…..and you definitely don’t need make up, ever!

    My nightmare shirt. My shirt looks good except my shoulder seams are to much going towards the back. Like a big dummy I didn’t see it & put sleeves in. I don’t mind fixing shoulder area but don’t like having to take sleeves out & put back in. Oh well that’s what I get for being a big sewing dummy. I got myself a new Brother sewing machine & been enjoying it. I also got myself a free mannequin & have been padding it up. Things you what have shown today will help me fix my pattern so I don’t make same mistake again. So big Thank You.

    You are so knowledgeable. So sorry about your sunburn.
    Can you point me to one of your videos that will explain how to shorten the sleeve on a 100% linen caftan that has beautiful bead/embroidery detail on neck, front and arm cuff. Shoulder cap is the correct height. No difference between front and back of big arm hole but very shaped sleeve top 😩. I love it and am terrified of ruining it. It is 2 sizes too big for me so armhole is too low but the sleeve goes more narrow so I need to add fabric to under side of the sleeve. I need to reshape the whole sleeve top. Is it impossible?

      Thank you. Can you send me clear front/back/side views of how the Caftan fits you. Then I may be able to suggest how to take it in. You can email me at jsterndesigns37@gmail.com Thank you for watching

    Thank you for that -very good information. My question is I have seen another video where there is a small adjustment made with the sleeve (not just moving the tip of the shoulder point on the sleeve forward to accommodate the forward shoulder but another adjustment to refine for that - does one of your videos show that?

    Is there ever a case of the front shoulder and the back shoulder not aligning horizontally? In other words the front neck width being smaller than the back neck width even though the shoulder seams are the same length.

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Год назад +1

      The base of your back neck may in fact be a little wider than the front of your neck... but where they meet in the middle would be the same because the front/back neck are one neck (if that makes sense). It's more likely that the pattern you are working with may have a wider neckline edge in the back... causing the shoulder seams to not line up horizontally... This works out if you need more width across the back neck... but if you don't, it will cause gaping in the back. Hope that helps! Thanks for fitting along with me

    Were patterns from the 80’s and 90’s higher in the shoulder slope to accommodate shoulder pads? If we were to use such a pattern today without the pads, would the adjustment be to only take down the slope, or would the armhole and sleeve cap need adjusting?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Год назад

      That's interesting... I'm sure some of there were designed to pop a shoulder pad in there.... In your fit muslin, you may need to shorten both the front and back shoulders (and shorten the sleeve cap a like amount too). Thanks for fitting along with me

    you don't need make up. Sorry about your burns. Cold water quickly applied to areas that are sun burned will reduce the damage. The cooler melt water is good for that.
