GeneralKidd The 'Concept art backgrounds' in cinematography are called 'Matte Paintings' Back before CGI images were a thing, artists would paint the scene in perspective with a cutout for the actor to work in, in the end, you would have a composite. The First StarWars films made use this technique and it is absolutely brilliant.
I totally agree. and it's a great way to cut down on building scenery in 3D that isn't used. Cinematography and Game Design are really close nowadays and I love it.
Liam Van Niekerk Yeah ill definitely look into doing all that. In the meantime, the button combination for pan cam is LB+RB+LS+A+D-Pad Up. You must be on local and using default button layout. Also, once you're in theater mode, to actually switch to pan cam mode, you use this button combination: LB+RB+LS+RS+D Pad Left
I think this is kind of a thing where some cutscenes in games, even if they appear to be in-engine, are really in completely different cut off rooms to where gameplay happens, For example, say your in a game where a character comes out of a tunnel into a forest, a cutscene plays in that forest, then you start gameplay from that area, to the player it may seem like both cutscene and gameplay occurred in the same place, but using fly cam like this one, people have discovered that the cutscene took place in a completely different room, most of the time under the map where gameplay happens.
This is a pretty old video and a lot of people have already explained aspects of it but I really just want to put out there how amazing it is to me that even in a game like Halo 3 you can use essentially a digital version of matte painting to such stunning effect. It was something I didn't even fully realize for a long time when I played Halo 3 back in highschool. It was probably well into my later years of highschool when I had already owned Halo 3 for a few years that it finally clicked and I noticed it. Which, I suppose, I shouldn't really be surprised by. Bungie were a pretty veteran team of devs by this point in time and had cut their teeth developing games in an age when whole skyboxes were used to imply the existence of cities or canyons or what have you in other games. Basically the same technique. Bungie devs and artists doing the same thing just at a much higher resolution and fidelity in Halo 3 to save resources and time where needed is a pretty understandable and ingenious move. Exactly the thing an older team of devs like them would do at the time to cut corners where needed and doing it so effectively shows the sheer astonishing level of craft they had reached. Idk, it's just something I really appreciate as someone who has been going to college the past few years for animation, 3D modeling, game design, etc. When you put a lot of time into learning an art or a craft you begin to develop an admiration for the little ways artists and craftsmen cut corners and save time because you have to learn those things as well or, at least, similar ways to cut corners and save time.
I found a hidden cutscene area on the ark at the beginning of the game. It is hidden far below the map at the start area. I modded my crouch height to -3200 and the camera clipped to the whole cutscene area. I think it was just a skybox, but was able to explore it by rotating camera.
What about that glitch where you go into theater mode on the start of The Ark and go below the cliff where the pelican drops you off in free cam. Then you look off at a certain cloud and tap y twice and end up teleported into an uninflected high charity. I believe it also counted you beating a mission on legendary for doing so it's been a while though...
+Orlando Vianen I was wrong about one thing it actually teleports you into a cutscene room (looks like a covenant ship and the video I watched years ago called it an uninflected high charity), I believe he actually had a video on his channel explaining how to do this but I know for sure it only works on the 360.
One of the things that helps the Halo Series stand up so well to time is the fact that all of the cutscenes aren't pre-rendered. They are all in engine, using the same models. Halo 4 and 2A look great, but they don't have the same effect.
Wyatt Tyson I know Halo 5 and Halo 2A cutscenes are pre rendered and CGI, but I thought halo 4 cutscenes were actually in engine too, couldn't quite tell. I know the intro and ending cutscenes are pre rendered, but I wasn't sure about the rest of them.
maybe I'm picky, maybe I'm nostalgic. but the best shooter/sci-fi games ever made, are halo and halo 2. When halo 3 came out, I couldn't wait. but years later I still think halo and halo 2 are badass.
am i the only one thinking highcharity looks like a nipple for the ark if you look close enough with a dirty mind? XD but overall great video i wouldnt mind seeing pan cam more often
Credo fosse una battuta, dice che "c'è solo un commento" nel video, ed in questo unico commento c'è scritto "One". E' un gioco di parole, 'Pun' in inglese
Take my advice, you want to cut these videos down a lot more. You repeat yourself a lot and mention things that really don't matter. All you need to say is "it works on MCC too" instead of you showing us. I also suggest you either edit out the ums and ers or just record your lines until you can do it without. I know this is RUclips and professionalism isn't necessary, but all this extra stuff makes the video boring and harder to watch.
W00ge I personally disagree. The commentary is far more casual and laid-back, it's refreshing. As for the MCC, he wanted to show that it works differently, it's much better having audio and video information that correspond.
+W00ge well, you said "Take my advice" as if your word is the decisive word. When the responses suggest that the majority of his viewers like the way he does things...so yes, it's achieving something.
The best thing ever is when I see people re visit old halo games and it just makes me happy to see people still care about the old ones
Magnumus AJC thank you.
The old ones servers are going offline in December 2021 :(
love that your revising old halo stuff keep it going
Lord Krythic your

I love these things, they always look beautiful
BasicallyCoffee halo still does this, it's called being lazy but still cool so idc

I'd definitely love some out-of-map pan cam vids 👍
I agree. Plus a tutorial on how to do it would also be nice...

Generalkidd ohhhhh yeah, definitely gonna try it out, thanks good sir.
Yeah but that never works, i just get always be on the ground always. so pan cam can not work.
I remember accidentally activating pan cam when I was trying to figure out how to lower your weapon.
damn I remember that main menu
I thought I knew everything from this game :((
Dennis Haglund same
I used to think I knew all the Easter eggs and glitches in Halo 2
Dennis Haglund Were it so easy.

You might want to turn off notifications next time so you don't have that bleep sound in your videos.
Watch out chief you might fly into the obviously painted background
Oh shit dont you see the tear in the painting?! He grinded against it in hte pelican!
The didnt bother to do a second take....
Well... Thanks.
Thanks. I knew that.
The reason for the second part of the cutscene not doing it is that the first part is a backdrop, and the second is actual landscape.
Whelp, he said it later in the video anyway...
2:19 is my favorite part
My left ear loves your voice.

Great video man, keep it up
The one in Halo looks like the Ark Portal in Voi from The Storm/Floodgate
the sky box thing is all the pictures of the ark you see in the sky on some missions.
When does the cortana cutscene room deload?
+The SuperWaffle It probably deloaded shortly after the cutscene. However I can't be sure.
Generalkidd all I remember is play in halo 3 as a kid when I was younger and finding a random room that now I cant find on cortana anymore
You are my favorite youtuber....
maybe I'm picky, maybe I'm nostalgic. but the best shooter/sci-fi games ever made, are halo and halo 2. When halo 3 came out, I couldn't wait. but years later I still think halo and halo 2 are badass.

W00ge Thing about youtube, you can make shit content and still draw at least some views.

no this is stupid his videos are the best u dont understand how to watch them
If you guys like this "style", fair enough. But this comment was for the uploader, not viewers. Respoding isn't really going to acheive anything.
+W00ge well, you said "Take my advice" as if your word is the decisive word. When the responses suggest that the majority of his viewers like the way he does things...so yes, it's achieving something.
