Ok everyone…the pretty hands and nails in the video is my wifes 😅 please don’t panic and worry, I’m not putting beautiful nail art on my nails 💅 Couldn’t have my manly hands holding something so small and intricate and ruining the shot 🤣
Have to agree, it’s hard to believe you can get such good quality audio from something so small, and also so easy. I know a lot of audiophiles may pick it apart and comparing it to a $1000 condenser mic isn’t fair. The fact the set up is a few seconds and the quality is amazing blows my mind. Even the audio quality using the mobile version when Zack was on his bike was unreal. Taking phone videos to such high quality with good audio is definitely a game changer.
Thank you 🙏 glad you enjoyed their little appearance. They pulled out all the stops to make it epic 😜 definitely think they’ll have to stick around for more lol
One of the best reviews for the Hollyland M2! Damn audio quality. Top notch! For such a small and budget audio device, this is a must buy for content creators!
Awnnn❤ Great mic. Just got it recently and trying to soak up any info before I start testing . Great family you guys are so cute, and this was well shot & Edited too!
Thank you so so much, really appreciate the kind words on the review, we definitely do try put as much effort into it as we can. And it’s amazing to see that it doesn’t go unnoticed so thank you again 🙏
Happy to do a short sometime and find a super noisy environment for you 😉 busy street with car noise should do well too. On Zack’s bike ride, there was a ton of wind noise but the little dead cat is insanely powerful. No noise cancellation on his ride still.
@@RICH_Photography At the moment I have the FullAim x5 system and I did a short movie scene with it. I found that the noise from clothing was cut considerably when using the wind jammer fury . For a solo travel vlogger who shoot outside with a lot of crowd, which one do you recommend more? Is it Lark M2 or Lark Max Solo? I shoot more with a mirrorless and sometimes with phone. Thanks.
I bought M2 last month. I m using now for shooting a indipendent series tv. I feel good with this device, but for you i need to will buy lark MAX for my project? Exist to much different quality for need spend another money for Max? Thanks.

Awesome! Question: which lav mic did you use on the Hollyland LARK MAX ? thanks!
With the dead cat on there, how do you tell if it's on noise cancellation or not? Or did you put it on noise cancellation by accident while putting on the dead cat? Add the magnets, and it's a no deal. Too bad, otherwise it looked pretty good.
Is there a way to listen to/monitor the audio while recording to a camera or to the phone? Especially when using it with a camera, I can't imagine it's easy to tell how low or high the levels are with just those 3 leds on the receiver.
Honestly!! Amazing, you’ll see even still in my RUclips videos I use this mic. I use this mic on 99% of my jobs. Even live stream events. Used it today on a live stream and filming interviews again with it tomorrow. Not a week goes by that I don’t use my Lark M2 mics
I have a Lark Max Duo, Godox Movelink M1 and Movelink M2. This Lark M2 sound is great and clear like the Lark Max Duo, my Godox M1 and M2 is too noisy hhssssss.... Thank you for your presentation, excelent review. I will buy this Lark M2 for a backup mic.
Good point, so 1 thing I didn’t mention is every Phone Receiver (USB C and Lightning) has a USB C port for charge through capabilities. I’m not sure if it will also allow an external drive.
To be honest, I was surprised that the mobile receiver fitted into my iPhone 15 without removing my iPhone case. I don’t have a slim iPhone case either. Glad manufacturers aren’t making it only fit into phones without covers.
Thank you for the video. It seems that the USB C version doesn't work with Pixel Android phones (works only if passing energy thru the side USBC from the receiver). Do you have any advice on it?
@@RICH_Photography yes there is something emotionally convincing while doing the test at the same time. We can project ourselves into using it at home !
Ok, I received the USB-C version and what is very important to know is that it doesn't split the tracks, so you end up with one track for two mics. The support now only answers that you need to buy the camera version to do so, which I think is sad.
great review, thanks. In the test, the Rode is very superb to me. The M2 clearer than the Max, but the M2 kind of amplifies S-sounds, like a hissing. A bit irritating to me. I guess that can be reduced in post, but i am a total amateur. I am about to buy the M2, but that hissing sound putts me off a bit...
Hey thanks for the video, I have a question about on 9:45 you say when you plug into your phone goes mono and you cant get stereo.. Does that mean when recording on a phone you can only do mono?
You’re welcome. From what I’ve noticed and understand, if you connect your phone to the camera receive it will record mono stereo. If you use the smartphone receiver, it seems to record into stereo. (The audio from the bicycle ride with Zack has not been altered, and it comes through 2 channels if you wear head phones) In reality you’ll never truly get ‘full blown’ stereo that can give you amazing direction from a small mic anyway. But if your question is to ask if you record with the mobile receiver, the audio will come through both speakers as ‘stereo’ without any altering of the audio. Hope that helps 🙏
@@RICH_Photography Thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate it :) This is great, I want to use this with my Pixel 6 so wanted to make sure that it records in stereo.
Correct. The phones record the audio together. Also not sure if there’s a way around this with a different app. But seems it’s a mobile device problem and not a Hollyland issue.
Trying to decide on the combo or the mobile. Was thinking of going full mobile so the case is smaller and ill be predominantly recording on a usb C. The camera unit if its in USB C mode, will it lose some features? Like will the gain still work?
Yes you can, after a recent live stream, the priest borrowed my Lark M2 to test in the church. He put the transmitter on his chest and the receiver he plugged into the PA system. It works fantastic, once he put the volume VERY loud it got feedback, but the clarity at the correct volume sounded better than his senheisser set up.
Appreciate it, it’s my wife’s nails, I’d assume people that have been around long enough would kinda recognise my manly veiny hands aren’t in the shot LOL To be honest I’m sure it would. I use my larks (150, Max, and old C1) with a 3.5mm to XLR into my audio mixer for live streams and it works flawlessly!!
@@RICH_Photography Ok thanks , Im thinking to try these button babes with the magnet, inside a collar for sit down interviews , you need to feature your wife more :)
@robinprobyn1971 works fantastic in the collar, you can put the magnet to the outside of the collar and the mic on the inside. It’s so well hidden. Actually a shot like that in the intro broll. I’ll definitely be featuring her more 😉
@@RICH_Photography Oh right I see it . Yes like that, it's mostly guys wearing suites Im interviewing . If I can white out the magnet with one of the stickers , get the A camera wide and B camera shooting into the collar / mic side ,it will be very hard to see or be noticeable . I have Sennheiser AVX , and its good but hiding even a small lav mic is a pain , then all the cable noise blah blah .. This will be much quicker and easier and audio quality fine for my needs.
That’s because it’s pretty tough to test it in one go because it’s so long. Hollyland does claim 40 hours in total. Let me try explain. When the case is fully charged, and you use the mic, you get 40 hours of total use until the original mic charge and case is completely flat from recharging. Based on an assumption of a full case charge giving you 2.5 to 4 full charges as previous versions. Id estimate an average of 8 hours on a charge. I’ve personally used it for 2 hours consecutively in a live stream and had no issues obviously. I’ve used both mics in a long video of about 3.5 hours and also had no issues. It’s really hard to get an idea when something has such great battery life. I have used the Lark 150s for many years and still can’t tell you the battery life because I’ve used it for 6 hours at most. I know this doesn’t give you an exact answer but I can tell you the battery life is amazing.
Exact same results? To me it seemed like audio dropouts started at the speed bump for the camera receiver, and 2-3 times further away with the usb-c receiver. What am I missing?
The signal did come back as it dropped out by the speed bump, however the USB C receiver also drops out a bit just after. You don’t hear it much as Zack wasn’t speaking. In addition, and this is partly my fault, the camera was placed on a tripod on the pavement, under a tree…we were worried about passing cars. Last minute we decided to do the test on the USB C receiver and stood with the phone in the middle of the road which was a lot better than on the pavement under a tree. So…same results, give or take a meter or 3 😉😜
That’s a good 50m, the camera and phone were placed in the same distance from the speed hump, we literally just stepped out onto the road. So in the wide shot on the ISB C receiver as it starts gives a pretty good idea. I think Hollyland’s spec sheet claims around 60m ‘not line of sight’ and 300m line of sight.
@osmosisreacts if you buy just the phone receiver package they come with a different case. The full bundle comes with the camera receiver case and the phone receivers just lie lose in the bag. You can charge them via USB C though.
