    Hi! I hope you can see my comment and answer my questions. My current rootstock turned yellow and mushy, can I still save the scion? Can I use the red variety dragon fruit as rootstock? Can I graft the moon cactus directly to a dragon fruit just after planting it?

    Hi there, i have a moon cactus where the stem has gone brown and squishy. I have only just planted the new stem and have to wait a month before i can graft to it. I have two buds on the cactus and how long would they last on their own before i have to graft them, would they last the month i have to wait?

    • @PracticalGardening
      @PracticalGardening  10 месяцев назад

      Not sure of the question. The stem or stock has become rotten? You'll have to discard it if so. But the moon cactus you can recover. Here's how to do it. ruclips.net/video/WdVvU_4zbEg/видео.html

      @@PracticalGardening Correct the stem is rotten, but i have just planted the new stem which i have to wait a month for it to become rooted. How long will the buds from my cactus survive before i can graft them, will they last a month waiting for the new stem?

    Hi!! I got a moon cactus from nursey a few days ago, the top coloured portion has started to die from its base where it is attached to green cactus. could you tell me the way out on what to do to save it

    • @PracticalGardening
      @PracticalGardening  2 года назад +6

      Hi Shalini. You could scrape away the rotted part of the moon and then dab the wound with a bit of vinegar as fungicide. Put in partial shade and let it dry thoroughly. Then put under sun maybe after 2 days. Here's a moon cactus I treated the same way. It now has pups!

      Hindi po nabubuhay yung mga moon cactus kung walang host o yung green stock tulad ng dragonfruit plant. Yung iba pong cactus plant ay pwedeng maging host.

    Hi I have been reading a lot about grafting, but I have some questions, I hope can answers I know this can live without the root, but How they became. Babies as the ones that come in yellow, purple, orange? 2. What makes then like that, that color is that natural or can be change ? 3 once is grafed is better to keep then with straight linght? 4. What can i to get pops?

    • @PracticalGardening
      @PracticalGardening  2 года назад

      Hi Carla. Will try to answer your questions.
      1. Moon cactus by themselves will not surivive long without a host (or graft) because there's no photosynthesis. I read there can be seeds, but I've not seen them.
      2. Yes. As they mature, there may be some slight variations (darker or lighter), but the basic color is the same.
      3. They need bright light or in partial shade, but not too much heat.
      4. The pups grow out from the cactus itself at the sides and they are called offsets.
      You may get more info from my article at: bit.ly/MoonCactusGraftToDragonFruit

    Hindi na po ba kailangang patuyuin yung dulo ng cactus bago itanim?

    • @PracticalGardening
      @PracticalGardening  2 года назад +2

      Hindi po. Dapat nga po fresh yung cuts ng moon cactus at yung dragonfruit na idudugtong.

    But what is the origin of moon cactus?

    • @PracticalGardening
      @PracticalGardening  2 года назад

      Good question. The bright colored ones have been found in the wild/nature living off from different hosts.

    Can I use a prickly cactus to graft the scion onto 🤔

    • @PracticalGardening
      @PracticalGardening  2 года назад +1

      Yes, I've seen some do it. But the overall preference for moon cactus grafting is the Dragronfruit. The scion is easily positioned on top. The stock is more robust and won't rot easily.

    Where can I buy dragon fruit plant for grafting

    • @PracticalGardening
      @PracticalGardening  Год назад

      For grafting, I suggest just asking around for branches. One long branch can be cut into serveral grafting-sized pieces.

    Hello po! Ask lang po after 1 week na dumikit npo yung scion sa rootstock, need po ba diligan agad once na nakadikit npo?

    • @PracticalGardening
      @PracticalGardening  Год назад

      Hayaan mo muna. After a week pa at diligan lang ng konti yung lupa. Kung gusto mo, pwede ring sprayan ng konti yung scion (moon cactus) para maalis lang yung alikabok o dumi.

      Be sure to sterilize your cutting tools (knife, cutter, blade, etc) with alcohol. Also, avoid getting the new grafts wet.

    How long does it take to graft?

    • @PracticalGardening
      @PracticalGardening  2 года назад +2

      The grafting technique itself only takes around 5 minutes, assuming all materials are ready and available.
