      Puppetman64 They do it because the child might pose a threat. The cops have no idea what they're in for so they have to make sure. Even kids can be dangerous.

      It's in case the child was brought up to kill, or armed with a bomb. They have to do it.

      +Puppetman64 A SWAT Team is made for EMERGENCIES that involve quick and fast acting on the behalf of the law. School Shootings are a prime example. Though it isn't the same. SWAT is quick and effective in taking out dangerous targets before anything more can be done. Police don't do that because while they do handle emergencies, they won't be as big as a SWAT Team.

    If you stream and have a face cam and or at least have over.....I'd say 1000-5000 watchers, call your local or nearest police station and warn them about the possibility that someone may try to do this to you, and have them call you if they receive a certain type of call like a bomb threat or something serious like that. It could be the difference between life and death for you streamers out there.

  • @erictaylor5462
    @erictaylor5462 9 лет назад +29

    There is also another possibility you didn't consider. Many American have LEGALLY acquired and legally own fire arms. I know of one case where a resident had suffered a very violent home invasion robbery in which both his wife and 14 year old daughter were violently raped while he watched, helplessly tied to a chair. Both women required surgery and extensive hospital stays and the young girl will now never have children of her own.
    About a year later someone swatted him. Thinking he was about to suffer another home invasion he opened fire. The police returned fire and he was killed instantly.
    Personally I think the responsibility for these tragedies rest solely on the police. The US constitution requires reasonable suspicion of a crime before they are allowed enter and search a property (car or home or storage locker). An anonymous tip should NOT be consider "reasonable evidence". The police need to pull back and think about what they are doing here. Especially considering the number of false alarms they are encountering.
    I don't think local municipal police should even have swat teams. Special Weapons And Tactics should only be used on the state and federal levels. And a through investigation needs to be done BEFORE a swat team is deployed. Most municipal towns have no need for swat teams EVER. When you have small poorly trained local police agencies deploying SWAT teams it is just asking for trouble.

    Swatting is a very tricky situation now. If they take every call seriously, they have the potential of wasting thousands of dollars raiding innocent people and even causing injury or death. On the other hand, if they start not taking these calls as serious due to how many of these prank swatting calls are made, then this helps real terrorists who will use this diminished reaction of these types of threats to their advantage.

    Also note that some streamers, such as MrRepzion, are armed with small firearms (for self defense purposes). And even if they have a gun licence and a registered weapon, seeing it on the victim's hands might cause the authorities to *shoot on sight*.
    There are multiple cases of people, usually people of color, being shot on sight for having something that's not even remotely shaped like a gun.
    I can go on and list how a kid was shot and killed by an officer because his Wii remoted "looked like a gun" or how a black dude was shot in a public place because he had a fake sword (he was cosplaying, shot on the back), or a Nerf gun (how come white people can walk around with assault rifles but when a black dude carries a dart gun or an air pistol they shoot first and never ask questions?). This is not about race, but SWAT officers are very serious and very violent when responding to emergency calls.

    I had been "swatted" before I knew what it was, back in 2009-2010. I was having a party and someone called the cops saying there was a dead body, and they had been murdered. At least 12 cops busted down my front door, with their guns drawn, and had almost arrested me. I was 14-15 at the time, it's literally a terrifying situation.. it really shouldn't be a thing.

      I work with police dispatchers so the thing that pisses me off is the fact that people assume it's possible to determine pranks versus actual threats. It's not. If someone planted a bomb in your place of work and the police deemed that tip as a prank you'd be complaining about inaction on the police force's part. Ignorant punks.

  • @CryosWorld
    @CryosWorld 9 лет назад +1

    I've personally been swatted mid-stream before. I'm lucky enough to live in an area that only sent out several police officers, one of which I know personally, but it is still a very scary thing and a massive waste of time/resources.If it does happen to any of you, my suggestion is to comply with whatever the officers are telling you, answer all of their questions and explain to them that you're a streamer and its a prank. Also, if you have time (i.e. you get "lucky" like I did and don't have them break your door down and throw you to the ground at gunpoint, mute your mic and deactivate your webcam. When you get back, try remaining as calm as you can, laugh it off if you can, and try not making a huge deal out of it. The less the trolls can see you react, the less fun it is for them. Just be careful guys.

    how we can make this better: instead of the SWAT team breaking down doors, shooting dogs, and arrest the streamer on sight without asking them anything, they could just walk into the house, until they see the streamer to see if they're doing anything wrong. the streamer explains, and the SWAT team leaves

      +ZSXDFV 2 If you've watched any UK swattings, that is basically what they do. Anyways, what if the person who called in saying they murdered their entire family. You politely knock, and you get shot in the head through the door. You politely knock, the guy escapes. You politely knock, a grenade goes off on the other side of the door. You politely knock, and the door opened and the guy stabs you 37 times in the chest (Llamas with Hats reference, get it? No? I'll just go then...)

    With all the armor and shit they wear plus the fact swat teams come in large groups, there's no reason they couldn't wait until the dog actually tried to attack them. Worse that could happen doing that is one might get a bite mark on their armor. Definitely makes more sense to kill a family's loved pet when they don't even know if the people they're raiding are going to be guilty. Oh but America isn't becoming a police state. Where a swat team can tear your families house apart and kill your beloved pets, who can be like family members, all without any evidence. Just a phone call that doesn't even have to give their name or any identity at all. America, the home of the free.

      A dog can knock you over and sink his teeth into your neck. Also, let's see you in the shoes of the officer. You could be facing someone with armor pentetrating rounds, so you want to stun them and subdue them, not shoot on sight.

      +Mystogan Edolas LOl, I've witness a raid as a ride-along. They made me wear a military-grade helmet and 22-pound vest that has a crotchguard flap and even my flanks. I felt pretty damn safe. And when I asked if I could demonstrate how safe the armour is against a dog. They agreed to it, but I had to wear a "jacket" in case if he ripped off my arm. The dog tackled me and I wrestled the damn pooch for 45 secs. The lieutenant asked me how it was, I said. It's absolutely necessary to wear it. And the armour was so thick. It actually covers my neck. No way I could die. The protocol is bullshit.

    Another point here is that these police men and women are human also, and swatting is just plain abuse towards them. A raid must be great mental stress on them anytime as they put their lives on the line. When the raid ends up being a swat and some awefull thing like harming an innocent like a baby or a family pet, it must be just horrible for them mentally.

      XNinjaMonkeyX123 hand cuffing the child is the safest thing to do. if they handcuff her, she can't pull out a weapon or sneak attack them. it will neutralize the possibility of the child becoming a threat (to the officers or to herself), and they can focus on real threats.

  • @Its_PaPez
    @Its_PaPez 10 лет назад +2

    I get that it's rough and it seems foolish, but it seems justified from my idea. I'm north of the American border so I'm no expert on the protocol in America, but realistically, when there a possibility of someone going on a rampage or setting off a bomb, asking question becomes a secondary priority. If they try and peacefully get those people to stand down, that nut case will blow up the building faster than standing down. Also, these SWATs aren't tied to the state or city police or what have you, they are a federal force that have their own policy about this. So I thinking taking that time to check it out might feel like and easy thing for them, but spending that time figuring it out might be the difference between some doors and dogs, or an entire building, even if innocent people might get hurt.

    Are people mad about the whole dog killing thing? It's natural for healthy dogs to bark and bite people, sometimes even their owners. So if the dog does attack the SWAT team, it'll seriously mess their mission up. Even middle sized dogs can kill a person almost instantly, and the SWAT team isn't taking any chances. Your dog may not bite people, but about 2/3 of other dogs in the world will, and they can kill people.
    Also, unless you or your family is into shady stuffs like drugs and whatnot, the SWAT team isn't going to bust down the door and assault you. They are not psychic so they can't tell if it's a prank call immediately(especially how the trolls are good actors), and they really can't start ignoring calls, because one of them might be a real terrorist or something, and people who says they'll sue the police department for their dog is just dumb. That's basically saying I'll sue you for something mendatory and something you don't have control of.
    I'm more upset about how the baby is in a coma because of the fucking stun grenade made for assaulting enemy soldiers and terrorist. Apparently a defenseless baby is worthless and shouldn't be protected compared to potentially murderous canines.

    tbh I think it'd be for the best is all Internet anonymity were to be removed. if you're not looking up anything you're not supposed to be looking up you've got nothing to worry about. it'll stop shit like this because at this point anonymity on the internet is hurting people. it allows for things like this to be done and for people to make others feel like crap without facing consequences. it'd be for the best.

    • @mel0_archive498
      @mel0_archive498 8 лет назад

      You can't just "remove" anonymity. People will always find ways to conceal their identity.
      By trying to expose everyones' identity online regardless, you're simply putting the information of law-abiding citizens out there, giving criminals more ammunition for which to attack individual people, while those with malicious intent can still hide behind proxies and other masking systems to get off scot-free.
      So in other words, that's an absolutely terrible idea. Really, Karl Pilkington levels of forethought in your comment, mate.

    • @blizzardrush4983
      @blizzardrush4983 8 лет назад

      +Melody Anonymous *reboot* ID say a good percentage of people willingly put their real name and profile pictures on things like RUclips for people to see, and never has there been a problem. why would that change if it was set like that for everyone. and you're really overthinking what I'm saying. just having your real name out would keep things like this from happening. I'm not saying to have your address, phone number, etc to put up for people to see, just a name. because at this point internet anonymity is being used for things like swatting, harassment, cyber bullying, drug trade, and many other crimes. doing more hard than good like I said

    • @mel0_archive498
      @mel0_archive498 8 лет назад

      Blizzard Rush How would having your name on a social media profile or something stop you from hiding behind the Tor network again?
      Your suggestion would do nothing to stop any criminal with a frontal lobe, and would instead disadvantage innocents who have greater value over their privacy.
      If you want to put up your information online, that's your decision, and it should always be your decision. Anything further and you're causing people harm.
      The reason why having your name and face up rarely causes harm(read: rarely. It still does sometimes) is because the individual is for the most part in control of that and will only release their own information at their own discretion.
      Have you even thought about how such a system would work, by the way? You're talking about this as if this sort of thing could be implemented tomorrow. The Internet isn't run by any central governing body, or company. There is literally no standardization about the internet other than the bare minimum required to connect to it. Even ISPs have a very loose grasp on their customers.
      You're speaking the ravings of a madman, who knows nothing about how the internet works, how computers work or how crime works. I'm sure you're a capable person in other areas, but in this particular discussion, you sound like an absolute looney to me.

    One of these days someone is gonna be streaming some light-gun game or a Wii game and there gonna get swatted and they're gonna come out of the room with the remote or the fake gun and a cop is gonna think it's real and he's gonna shoot. Swatting needs to be stopped before something like this happens.

    The only way to top false reports is to improve the verification methods, since I don't have inside information I can't offer much help in that area unfortunately. Ignoring the potential tragedy of losing your household pet something like this could also draw valuable resources away from a genuine situation in which swat is needed. In this growing era of "Black Lives Matter" and other hate groups targeting even people who support the police this is doubly true. Let us hope someone or someones is able to accomplish this and end this "swatting".

    200 lb person breaks into my house with full military tactical equipment and wearing 50 lbs of Bullet proof armor, including full face protection. . . Shoots my 15 lb dogs who are doing nothing wrong by alerting me of an intruder. . . still calls himself a MAN when he goes home to pet his dog later that night.
    I have watched animal services catch raccoons, capture stray and aggressive dogs, wrestle alligators in public all while making sure the animal, who is not a pet or even cared about for that matter, is safe and alive and yet this is the best that "super trained and skilled" SWAT officers (soldiers at this point) can do? SHAME!!!!

    If people keep abusing their right to be anonymous on the internet, they are going to lose it. I enjoy my right to be anonymous, but not for any evil intentions. I just like my privacy. Let's say hypothetically your computer has to be searched after a swatting and they find some pirated copies of movies. You'll be looking at decades of jail time just for that.

    It's honestly extremely stupid someone would ever even think of doing something like swatting. Seriously, those swat officers didn't go through years of training to arrest an innocent gamer because some neckbearded idiot online thought it would be funny, and the livestreamers have done nothing wrong to deserve something like that to happen to them.

    Wow. Why do they have to kill the dog? I mean, if he/she ATTACKED, such as trying to bite, claw, etc, it makes sense for them to temporarily stun the dog, but the people on the team probably have armor and stuff that a common dog wouldnt be able to pierce. Anyones thoughts on this?

    I don't consider myself a gamer or a geek anymore, and I blame it onto a lot of the people I share my hobbies with and which have this kind of behaviour. I just consider myself now a person that can enjoy games, comics, animation, fantasy, sci-fi... because I wouldn't be caught dead in the same denomination as these people. I really cringe when I try to imagine the kind of world that the people that have made me stop reivindicating geekdom will create when their time comes to hold the wheel. These swatting people take this as a joke, when there are still civil wars around the world where people report their neighbours anonymously to one of the warring sides and get them killed sometimes just out of envy or personal grudges. These people who also hadn't ever heard or cared about feminism until it came to spoil their secluded fun. These people who will sign petitions en masse for games NOT to come onto the systems where other people can enjoy them... anyone think they won't "grow" to become the most rancid of the right wings always petitioning for sectors of the population NOT to get some rights just so that they can feel superior by having them? In the end, videogames are just another media, and we can't just pretend we're some kind of family or society with the same thoughts and goals. It's even alleviating. But it really, really annoys me that this is still so pervasive.

    I cannot believe the madness 1. Dogs being shot and i have 2 dogs 2. If you like playing FPS games and you're holding a toy gun they might think its real 3. Imagine the jumpscares of a no knock raid 4. The SWAT can enter your house while you are taking a shower and that would be embarrising 5. You can get sent to jail for something you did not do 6. You can DIE 7.if you are a little kid like 3 years old then too bad you did'nt get to see the rest of your life.

    It's upsetting actually. Raises a lot of questions for me also like how come cops don't do proper procedures for abuse but can shoot a dog in a raid? Some things cops do around where I live is an eye raiser really.
