Bottom line here is that the discussion is about singers that have not lost their voices well into their golden years.... and since both Aerosmith and Kiss have been dragging around the world sometimes together, since the mid 70's obviously Paul and Steven know each other quite well... the question was NOT, Hey Paul what grudges do you have against Tyler personally, its "can the guy still kick ass, do it and sound like he has all his life".. and Paul chooses to be snarkish rather than being classy and admitting, that Yes, Steven T CAN still do it... maybe not 100%, he does cut some corners now but 90-95% of his voice is still all there and when he wants it, can still recall all the power and range he wants.... IMHO here, the look on Paul's face is just one of pure jealousy.. and he KNOWS but will never admit, Tyler can, and has always been able to out-sing him... C'mon folks, even if you're a huge Kiss fan you're kidding if you think that Paul Stanley as anywhere near the voice, range, power and control as Tyler... at best Stanley barks somewhat in tune... he's never been melodic and his voice clearly shows its age and then some...Not good. which is why the sooner Kiss hangs it up, the better. My band opened for Dave Navarro's Camp Freddy a couple of times and one night Steven Tyler came out, in a small club, and joined them and his voice was STUNNING.
Steven Tyler has always talked bad about KISS going back to the beginnings of both bands. It's a long standing feud that involves a fight between the bands road crews. Aerosmith and KISS were the two biggest American bands in the 70s, there was a lot of competition between them.

@@jpsmith8523 Yes. Aerosmith and Kiss are two of my favorite bands, but most big aka super successful bands have egos. Steven Tyler has one, so does Paul Stanley. I think where Paul goes overboard is he can't separate personal issues over the smallest things from giving a person his/her due. The man is hypersensitive. If someone says the don't like one thing Kiss did in 1983, he condemns them for LIFE--they're despicable human beings. For example, he didn't speak to Slash for years over a guitar dispute; he went way overboard bashing Dee Snyder & Twisted sister when Dee said he disagrees with new members in Peter & Ace's makeup. And he refuses to speak to Eddie Trunk over the fact Eddie calls them out on certain things. Paul, I love Kiss, but lighten up.

Thanks..
That heat started back in the mid-70's when KISS' roadies got into a fight with Aerosmith's roadies. I think knives were involved if I recall correctly and Stanley and Tyler have been trading words since.
Love both bands equally, but.... According to the kiss and sell book, Paul was envious of Aerosmith's 80's comeback success and wanted the same thing for kiss. Aerosmith was selling out arenas and was having hit after hit. Kiss even hired the lady who wrote aerosmiths biggest hit " i dont wanna miss a thing" to write a similar ballad for them, hoping for the same success. But yeah, Tyler still has his hair, and still has his voice. Paul has neither and i think all this stuff wears on his nerves.
Otis Spunkmeyer, yeah, I love both bands too, and I'll be the first to admit Tyler is a Prima Donna, but there's no denying the man's talent and voice. Paul can at least give him his due. According to Peter Criss' book, Stanley was envious of Tyler watching him on stage. I can dislike someone but still give them props--why be so spiteful? It only hurts him, not the one he hates.
Remember Joe Perry once on a radio show saying Steven Tyler sees everyone as competition and he has a big ego and he would sometimes watch from the side of the stage to see how Paul Stanley performs I think Paul used to respect Steven Tyler until Tyler went on a radio show in 2005 and made those derogatory comments about kiss it piss Paul off and rightly so
Well hell Kiss even had Michael Bolton write the song "Forever" for them off the Hot in the Shade album in 1989! The only real ballad that Kiss as a group did that was any good was "Reason to Live" off Crazy Nights in 1987. And yes, Beth was off of Destroyer; however, Peter Cris's sang that so that really doesn't county as a BAND song really.
Theres no way that would have happened for KISS. Two completely different images of a band. Beth is the only ballad, for KISS and that was a miracle born by Peter.

I know firsthand, being bullied and tormented can stick with someone forever. Plus, some people simply never let go. Another band I loved, The Ramones, had Joey never forgiving Johnny for taking away his girlfriend. So, two members of the Ramones did not speak for almost 2 decades despite continuing to tour and play on the same stage.

Yeah, those two bands were far and away the most popular American rock bands between 75 and 79…they probably had some animosity over sharing the same audience?
Kiss and Aerosmith have a different sound and appeal in different ways differently. In 2021 Kiss is really putting things together with impressive shows and great rock and roll. Actually they've been doing this for a long time. I like both bands, but if I'm going to watch a documentary or a movie about one of them it would be about Kiss and their improbable existence. I know some may say Aerosmith has a better catalog of rock and roll and I understand what they are saying, but those that know and understand the evolution of Kiss also understand the magic created by Kiss with their classic rock and roll tracks and many that came later over the years. It appears Kiss is leaving a large footprint down their extended final stretch.

That being said, Paul is one hell of an entertainer and frontman, a great businessman and he's been there, done that and become a Rock Icon. I wish i has 1% of his success. Total respect. Oh and Marx... still good, but he lowers all his keys live too.
Very good comment !!
"If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." How about that Rod Stewart?
Paul "Lipsynch King" Stanley weighing in on other singers' prowess as they age is pretty f'ing hilarious.

I can see Steven and Paul having some sort of beef with each other over some behind the scenes issues. However, I agree with Richard Marx. My band opened for Dave Navarro's Camp Freddy a couple of times and one night Steven Tyler came out, in a small club, and joined them and his voice was STUNNING.
Steven Tyler went thru a lot larynx surgery like other singers do
Steven Tyler has always talked bad about KISS going back to the beginnings of both bands. It's a long standing feud that involves a fight between the bands road crews. Aerosmith and KISS were the two biggest American bands in the 70s, there was a lot of competition between them.
Paul Stanley. One Word ;

Screech Stanley the great lipsynch man
I feel like Paul did a good job at not saying anything, because if you didn't know Paul and Steven have had some unresolved issues in the past and him not wanting to talk about the topic is pretty smart since he seems like he doesn't want to makes things worse between them

Yes l agree Rodrigo ,it would have been so easy to just be humble and say hell yes Tyler is awesome!! Despite their differences!!

That heat started back in the mid-70's when KISS' roadies got into a fight with Aerosmith's roadies. I think knives were involved if I recall correctly and Stanley and Tyler have been trading words since.
You can’t be everyone’s buddy. Paul has class and did not discuss it further.
@@brents.8972 - Michael Bolton co-wrote Forever, he didn't write it. Even Bruce said so
Theres no way that would have happened for KISS. Two completely different images of a band. Beth is the only ballad, for KISS and that was a miracle born by Peter.

When the KISS/AEROSMITH tour came to the L.A. Forum there was only about 8,000 people there. Capacity is around 17,000 @ the Forum. In fact, it was so empty that the venue put up black curtains to try and hide the empty seats. I still cant understand why such a great bill couldn't sell out one night when both of those bands sold out shows there on there own before and after this tour.
There has always been resurgence with certain bands and when ever you double bill big name bands it gives the impression of desperation psychologically .. I for one being both a big Fan of both bands I could feel the desperation when they did this tour.. I felt it was completely out of desperation... As for I seen Aerosmith in 2012 Xcel energy center St.paul MN.. Which holds 18000 plus and it was nearly sold out... And at the same time kiss is playing Large theaters... And outdoor casinos 5 to 6000 capacity... Now kiss is back in arenas holding 10000 plus it's all about hype it's all about whatever you can sell... At any given time... Also whenever the fans are desperate and there is definitely a loss with great rock bands....
Lots of misinformation here. The show’s attendance was 9,828 / 11,100. And the tour began in August, not December

@@jpsmith8523 Totally. I listened to his audiobook recently and he mentions that a lot.
FranLuthier I believe it's because some people never get over certain things. I love Paul's band and him as a musician, all he has overcome, etc, but there still is a super-sensitive boy inside his almost 70 year old mind, heart, and body.
I think he might be a billionaire....💚🎸💰
It could be his lifestyle, the people around him, his mental health, past traumas, etc. As a person, I don't think he's out to harm anyone. For all the contributions to music, I wish him peace.
