Conception, you know the one I am thinking of!Thanks for posting , I have done these in a flat pyrex dish under lit but I think this technique has a lot more to offer.

Give it a go and see how you get on. This way of doing it is pretty much the only way I've tried it so I'd be interested to hear how it compares to other ways!

When I was watching your video I was thinking that it might be interesting to try to photograph a soap film in a ring instead of a soap bubble. If you ever had one of those soap bubble kits when you were a kid, you dip a ring into the soap solution, and blow on the soap film in the ring to make the soap bubbles. What I am saying that you might want to try is to dip the ring in the soap solution, and photograph the soap film in the ring instead of blowing a bubble.
One advantage of photographing a soap film in a ring, instead of a bubble, is that it should be easier to focus on, because the film will be at a fixed location, because it will be located inside the ring. If you hold the ring vertical, then the soap film should be flat (instead of spherical like a bubble) so it should be easier to get the whole film in focus, because the film is flat so you do not need a large depth of field to get it in focus. The rings in those soap bubble kits are small (although they do make giant soap bubble kits that have larger rings), so you would probably want to experiment, and make rings of different sizes.
Another difference is that the soap film in the ring will be thicker than the soap film in a bubble. Having a thicker soap film might produce a different image, but as time goes on the thickness of the soap film in the ring will get thinner as the soap solution evaporates.

Thanks so much for your videos. I played with this for a couple of hours today (ok, many of hours : ). I ended up really enjoying the moment when the color started to drop out, but there were some color swirls left. So mesmerizing and fascinating to see each different bubble.

Great vid, been meaning to give this a whirl! There's a super scene at 1:16, just a thin blue line on yellow, reminds of BBC2s current branding.

Thanks Dave, I really appreciate that! I love how different people can see different things in images like these. I see all kinds of weird things when the colours swirl a certain way. It's so satisfying to do so I really recommend giving it a go if you get chance!

Hi Andrew I wonder if it’s possible to get similar results using a 100-400mm zoom lens instead of a macro 105 with extension tubes ?

You said that it is easy to do, but what happens when you don't have a light setup that you are showing? I guess it's not that easy.
