many years ago I contracted TB as a resp. therapist. It was a infiltrate, inactive & asympomatic. I was underweight. A bronchoscopy for acid washings was the only way sputum could be obtained. A 2 yr course of ethambutol & inh followed. Thankfully it was caught early in my yrly employee physical.

In March of 2020 or when COVID was just starting in my home country, my mum caught TB. Her immune system is weak due to her underlying lung conditions such as emphysema and pulmonary hypertension. Those times, the COVID test results took many days to be released and so her pulmonologist was unsure at first because the x-rays looked COVID to him, but thankfully the CT scan showed it was TB as confirmed by the negative COVID test results later on. I could no longer recall the sputum results although her sputum was also examined. Due to her low body weight, she was prescribed Fixcom-3 (instead of Fixcom-4) initially and Fixcom-2 after. I remember giving her extra ascorbic acid while taking anti-TB meds. Liver enzyme tests have to be performed regularly while on anti-TB medication. Thankfully, after six months, she's TB clear.
