People don’t even know that Mariah actually risked her career to put this song out and bridge the gap between pop and rap. She’s a pioneer. & She did this without her label’s approval. They were heavily against this collaboration. This is why I respect Mariah so much as not only a singer but a true artist. I’ve always had extra respect for artists who write their own music, especially when the music is in-depth, of substance, and meaningful. She has 18 number 1s and wrote 17 of them. She’s really a one in a million. Unmatched as far as a female r&b/ pop artists go. Zero competition if you include: amount of number 1s, amount of records sold, writing your OWN music, vocal range, and longevity.
I have the most high respect for Mariah. She worked hard to get where she is at now. And no matter how many times she messes up while doing a concert she did her time. And she can do whatever she wants.

This version of Fantasy should be registered in US library of congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant". Mariah risked her career when this dropped and both Mariah and ODB single-handedly bridged the gap between gansta rap and pop with this. Today it's common for rappers and pop singers to collab, but back in 1995 this was unheard of. Yes Mary J did this a few years back and even Janet Jackson and Heavy D collab'ed in Alright before that...but Mariah was the #1 female artist during this time with a distinct pop/safe sound, and ODB/Wutang was on the COMPLETE other side of the music spectrum most Americans hated then. So for them to do this to a mainstream audience was a risk that significantly paid off! I'd go as far to say in anything Mariah's done in her career, this remix left the most impact. This and "All I want for Christmas..."
She has a whole chapter about this in her memoir! The heavy refusal from her record label but she still went through and risked her entire career. A legend!
@@Lillean really long and complex, she was married to the head of the record label and they wanted her in boring clothes and not expressing herself basically. She loves hip-hop and r&b but they wouldnt let her properly go into it, they wanted her to stay singing ballads. This album (Daydream) was where she started to properly do what she wanted. When she separated from her husband (head of the record label) , she released one of the best R&B albums ever (Butterfly) and everyone was shook because of how she dressed, her hip-hop collabs and heavy r&b music. She was still on the record label so after they split and she could be herself, he tried to end her career for years. I would say Fantasy remix was the start of her leaving her husband and her record label, they didnt see hip-hop as the future, she did
R.I.P ODB, the most unique and original mc ever, is crazy the contrast between the raspy rugged and raw voice and style of ODB against the angelical delicate high voice of Mariah.
enchantyy M You get what i'm sayng, that's why i called it a trend. I know that before this there were rap songs featuring singers and vice-versa, but the rap bridge on a pop song that almost all female pop singers do, became really popular after this.
She may not have been the first but she had the pull to bring the two genres together and accumulated the kind of interest not yet seen. Fans of pop music came from all races, rnb was predominantly appreciated by non whites, Mariah brought a lot of white fans over from pop and exposed them to music like Bone Thugs and Harmony, Old Dirty Bastard that they most likely would never have listened to. It doesn't mean shit today but it did back then, she was the one that made people sit up and take notice, that there was something awesome about blending those genres which has alot to do with why so many people do it now. She never gets enough credit for it but well her fans know and I'm sure she's happy with that.

Life was 90s 👍!!!
Melissa Tercero He's the greatest performer every since ahhhh what's the guy's name? Uh uh James Brown! ODB was and is still one of the best to ever do it
Well as sad as it is and as disgusting as the truth maybe, it could have something to do with her being mixed races, you got to remember that this was back in the 80s when she came out and when she was in the biggest spotlight, and in no way shape or form am I saying it is okay or understandable, I'm just saying this may be the reason why they did her the way they did her, racism is still alive and well in our country even in the year 2021 so 30 and 40 years ago, just think of how much worse it was! I witnessed it personally and I am a white person but always had Black and Hispanic friends, my city is racially diverse and actually pretty segregated but I always made friends with everyone regardless of color or racial background or neighborhood, and I've seen a whole lot of dirty shit go down even in the late 80s and early to mid-90s it was disgusting still the way they we're treating blacks and Hispanics and even Asians and Middle Eastern people, and definitely frowned upon white folks hanging out around or mixing in with them oh, I took quite a few ass whooping behind that and and proud to admit that I would happily go through every one of those ass-whooping again and then some! I can't stand racist people
Ariana Stacey seriously! She set the tone for pop and R&B and hip hop crossover, remixes, and collabs ! Mariah is legendary! They need to respect her! If it wasn't for her there'd be no them
Unfortunately...its because she's a Bitch... smh Im not a young person. She was my GIRL back in the 90's and early 2000's, I gots all them Records (see old haha) but she went from that to this super Diva, and I get it..she was the ish but her attitude is a hot damn mess...
Cynitha Phillips Can you explain how she's a bitch? She just minds how own business being rich and fabulous and people wanna come for her FIRST. So please explain how she's a bitch .....
NEVER FORGET.... mariah introduced pop + hip hop to the world... this has been a music staple ever since mimi proved its commercial viability! what an innovator and LEGEND!
+Zai Singson No she didn't. Mariah was merely following the trend of R&B and hip hop being fused together that was already occuring. Although she may've been the most successful doesn't mean she was the first to introduce it.
How could she make it commercially viable when it was already commercially viable. LOL I suggest you look at the billboard charts in 94 and 95 before Mariah changed up her style on the Daydream album. For example, TLC's hybrid of hip hop soul/R&B/pop second album "CrazySexyCool" was already one of the best selling albums a year prior to Daydream with two Number 1 singles. Quit falling victim to big man history or in this case big woman history and summarizing a trend of events that were already happening within R&B and Hip Hop to one single moment in time that you've arbitrarily given to Mariah.
Mariah was not only a gifted singer and songwriter. But she makes art, and was not afraid of doing things that were not popular, but she made it popular afterwards.
"To this day ODB and Mariah may still be the best and most random hip hop collaboration of all time", citing that due to the record "Fantasy," "R&B and Hip Hop were the best of step siblings." -Judnick Mayard, writer of TheFader
Exactly that. His presence is all that was needed. The man had it all and I'm glad I was around to see it, I'm just gutted I never got to see him grow. R.I.P ODB
Of all the members of Wu-Tang that she could’ve collabed with (nevermind that a Wu member was even considered considering the rugged style of rap they made🤯), she could’ve played it safe and chosen Method Man but she put ODB on the song. Ol’. Dirty. Bastard. And made a smash hit that lives forever. Goated🐐
ODB was the riskiest member of Wu-Tang that she could had worked with. There was a whole urban legend around ODB. ODB was the man who showed up in a limo to collect his food stamps.💀
This song takes me to special places and better times. It reminds me of old fantasies and hopefully new ones to come. I'm 48 year old man and rock this song. Life is too short to not enjoy the things you like. This song = happy smiles in my soul.
@@paulburrows6617 Copied? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 She bought the rights to add the sample on her song. Let's not forget that the Tom Tom's song had no lyrics basicly, only a few words, and Mariah wrote the hell out of a whole new song. Talent!!!
Mariah Carey did a lot for hip hop. Hip hop was just breaking out and branching and was hard core af in the 90s and Mariah put tons of dudes on in the more mainstream. She really appreciated the music
The ODB intro and verse are actually dope and the suga pie harmonies at the end of the song. I overlooked the song for years. ONE THING i respect about ODB is that he pioneered the sick style flow and paved the way for the lil waynes and kodak black they only spoiled the style by mumbling instead pronouncing full words.
ODB made this song so fire. There won’t ever be music like this again. Just so effing good. I remember bopping to this at like 9 years old on my tape player.
🤣 4:10 I love ODB singing his own lyrics along to the chorus at the end. I was a 90s teen and i never realized how funny that part was. It's actually my favorite part of the entire video.
Tín Tín hunny, this song changed the game of pop music and rap music, that's why you are getting Pop Rap collaboration nowadays (Problem, Bang Bang, Havana, etc). Fantasy is originally a pop song. She did another remix and add a rap collab with ODB, that changed the music scenes with Pop Rap collabs.
Not only is she a true diva but she is willing to experiment and "mix" it up with different artists and oh boy... did this shit work beautifully. R.I.P. ODB.
The reason why I love 90's Mariah more than Whitney or even Celine is because she had the most beautiful melodies, the most attractive music videos and her collabs were ahead of her time obviously and her amazing vocals mixing all kinds of genres.
Nah Whitney was good too in 90s, i dont think Celine was as good as Mariah and Whitney she just did a song for the titanic and boom while Whitney and Mariah literally overworked themselves in the 90s.
Spark This maybe I was like 6 or 7 when this came out but I don't like the rapper for this song either. He's a good rapper I guess but he's fucking bizarre and I'd rather look at a cuter guy than ole dirty. But it doesn't matter cuz I'd like the original more anyway

Pleease read this woman’s book. If you thought you loved her before, after reading the book the before love pales in comparison to the love, admiration, appreciation and soo much more you will feel for her. She is one hell of an inspiration, her being on this earth is no bloody accident. God knew exactly what he was doing when he made this woman. I’m humbled by her story.
I'm soon going to buy the audio version so I can hear her tell me her story. Been a lamb since 2005, and I for sure LOVE this woman. Don't quite know if I'm emotionally ready, she's a kindred spirit, big sister/mamma I never had, inspiration and hero I look up to. There's gonna be tears isn't there?
@@whitsfiryellnogobyye lists. Mariah's story is a true hero's journey. That woman is one hell of a role model. She believes in herself without a single shred of doubt. Wait until you read that book, your mouth will open and you will cry for Mariah and for yourself. After reading it, you become her. The Mariah in you will awaken.
why does Mariah look so gracefully on a roller coaster...
Because she’s Mariah Carey
Wu-Tang is the best!
NO, SHE DIDN'T RISK HER CAREER.
@@cheesecake4648yes she did.

Yasss. Idk how Mimi survived pushing this out. Considering T is present.
She has a whole chapter about this in her memoir! The heavy refusal from her record label but she still went through and risked her entire career. A legend!
What made me laugh was when she said Tommy said HE could have done ODB's part.😂😂😂
I’m gonna buy her memoir, I heard before her label refused this remix, she went ahead and risked it. She made growing up in the 90s the best!
Y was they trippen

Super Saiyan Bro your opinion is shit sorry just had to say it
Super Saiyan Bro not really
How’d he pass?
Mariah made history here. She started the singer-rapper feature trend. You go Mimi.
Not exactly true, it has been happening since 1979.
Well she popularised it then
enchantyy M You get what i'm sayng, that's why i called it a trend.

I can't stand racist people
She's done so much for music I don't understand why so many young artist try to drag Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey popularised Pop and Hip-Hop collaboration, then you see Miley disrespecting Mariah collaborating with rappers
Ariana Stacey seriously! She set the tone for pop and R&B and hip hop crossover, remixes, and collabs ! Mariah is legendary! They need to respect her! If it wasn't for her there'd be no them

Cynitha Phillips Can you explain how she's a bitch? She just minds how own business being rich and fabulous and people wanna come for her FIRST. So please explain how she's a bitch .....
xxjaycexx100 I loved her from 90-03/04, her personality really did change I don't care what anyone says
God i miss the 90's
NEVER FORGET.... mariah introduced pop + hip hop to the world... this has been a music staple ever since mimi proved its commercial viability! what an innovator and LEGEND!
+Zai Singson nice
yes of course💙
+Zai Singson No she didn't. Mariah was merely following the trend of R&B and hip hop being fused together that was already occuring. Although she may've been the most successful doesn't mean she was the first to introduce it.
i didnt say she invented it. i said she made it commercially viable and set the trend for the future duh
