Just chop at soil level and let the green manure tops sit on the beds,, it will rot down naturally and add organic matter to the beds,, leaving the roots in the soil to rot and provide airways in the soil
Ahhh I'll deffo give the green manure a try on the no dig beds then if it can be chopped down and left on the top to rot. I've got loads of seed to use up so nothing to lose 🌈👍👍
No need to apologise family first, just managed to get my onions and garlic in last weekend and tidy the plot for the winter. Few more jobs to do but feeling much more prepared. Jo Devon 🙂
Always feel a bit guilty Jo when I don't manage to get a vid out for a couple of weeks. Thankfully things have settled down a bit now and I can get back on track with filming. One out today and hopefully get another one filmed this weekend to go out at some point next week. 🌈👍👍🌈
Great video mark, love that you just make videos about growing, so many channels now try to flog us stuff, just good old fashioned gardening - fantastic!
It was 4c this morning 20c this afternoon and now we are due the next few days of torrential downpours due to a typhoon 🌀 off the Pacific Ocean. Have a super weekend mark and happy gardening 👩🌾, Ali 🌦️🌧️🇨🇦
Temps are plummeting Ali! ❄❄❄ We've got a storm here now as well, getting hit with high winds and loads of rain. Thankfully my area hasn't been flooded unlike some areas of Scotland 👍❄🌧👍
Thanks Mark for a great video. I grew senshyu onions from sets last year and have just purchased mine for this year. I also have a second "over winter" type called Radar which I've not grown before. Like you, I use trays to start them off and plant out later. Thank you once again. Paul
Hi mark i over winter the same onions but i grow from seed for me the sets grow well but bolt in the spring in my no dig beds i just use a Dutch hoe and leave the roots in the ground and let the green growth rot away on the surface might not be the right thing to do but it works for me Missing Steve [greensideup] he was such a knowledgeable and friendly gentleman
Ahhh think I'll give the green manure a go in the no dig beds. Sounds like a great technique you have there for it and will be trying this one out. You're ahead of me on the onion seed front. I'll be doing mine from seed after Christmas at some point. Never thought of doing them from seed a this time of year. Will need to remember that one for next year 👍🌈👍
Hi Mark I also got my garlic from DT Brown this year, rhapsody wight, really happy with the size, have planted straight into my raised bed, I do it that way every year.
I'm a big fan of DT Brown, there seeds etc... always seem to be great quality. Don't forget they have a seed sale on at the mo with most things down to £1 a pack. They should really pay me for mentioning them in these vids 😁😁😁
Nice one Mark (Love the Irn Bru spray bottle - 'Made in Scotland from girders') I'm doing Senshyu form seed this year. I've had too many sets bolt down here in the sunny South!
I never thought about doing the over winter ones from seed! Usually do the ones after Xmas from seed but will deffo look into doing the over winter ones as well next year 👍🌈👍
I put my garlic and onion sets straight in the ground last year and they grew well, but after I had tried to dry them for storage they all rotted 😢 not sure if I harvested to early or it was that I had put them in the greenhouse (light) when I think I should have put them in the dark 🤷🏼♀️so going to miss them out this year. Jessie plot 37 did green manure on no dig beds and she just cut it, cut the plants up a bit and left it on the top of the soil and it just ‘composted’ down without digging it in - I’ve never done it myself 😂
Awwww that's such a shame about your onions. I store mine in an old plastic blow away greenhouse in a shaded spot of the garden till they come into the house to be used. Not sure if that's the correct way to do it but seems to work ok 🙂 Think I'll give the green manure a go in the no dig beds if you can just chop it down to rot on top of the bed. I've got a huge bag of seed to use so might as well give it a shot 👍🌈👍
Good video Mark I love up in Scotland. What else can I plant just now as you say it gets cold up here . I planted all my onions 100 of them and my garlic . John from Scotland
Thanks mags, had a fab time 👍 Thankfully the allotment hasn't been too bad this time round. I'm going to try and get up there later today to see what its like with the storm weather we're in the middle of 🌧🌧🌧
Thanks 🙂 It'll depend on the weather as to how quick they grow and when I put them out. When the shoots get to about 5" - 6" tall that's when I'll look to put them out. Much taller than that and I find the roots start to get bound in the cells. 👍🌈👍
Its about £4 - £5 a pint in my local area. Edinburgh is about 18 miles away from me and if I venture there the cost of a pint is pretty similar to London prices. 🌈🍻🌈
Super Good work Mark winter thé knoflook thé uitjes thans te video men Top 👍✔️🌞☕🌰👋🎈

Hi Mark, great video on how you start off your garlic & onions with lots of useful information. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Thanks Christine.
Off to check on them in the greenhouse later on today to see if there's any signs of roots and shoots 👍🌈👍

Nice Video Mark . I've always planted straight in the ground but in raised beds
Cheers Lee.
Tbh its probably easier for me to plant them direct but I like to faff about with them first 😁😁😁

Need to get my garlic going to 🌻
Plenty of time yet 👍
I'll be putting another batch out early next year as well 👍🌈👍
A pint of what - brandy ⁉️😄🌻
Its crazy expensive in London these days for a pint!
I'm back down there in December. Starting to save up now for 1 pint 😁🍻😁
@@marksallotmentplot get a second mortgage, you can buy your wife one too 😜
Hope you had a great time in Bonnybridge. How did your allotment fair with the heavy rains?
Thanks mags, had a fab time 👍

@@marksallotmentplot storm horrendous here too. Hope everything on the allotment is OK after the storm moves on
ENJOYED your method in planting onions & garlic in Cells but when do you now plant them or how long do you keep them in Cells before planting them.
Thanks 🙂

It is costly here for a beer, what’s the cost of a pint local to you Mark?
I was going to ask same. Oxford is also quite expensive 😂
Its about £4 - £5 a pint in my local area.
