You definitely don’t! I started with the 1000 about 3 weeks ago and I already have a TON of babies in there. Just remember to feed based on the amount of worms and they will multiply in no time!
Thank you. Stuff I’ve wanted to know for a while now. Thank God for people who explain things well. Happy Easter!!! We (the world) has a New Baby! Congratulations!!!
Congratulations on having a new son!!!!!!!!!!!! Great video. My 8 year old grand daughter and I are starting a worm farm too! Getting ready to order our worms now!! Thanks for the good information!!
Thank you!!! He’s 6 months tomorrow and just the happiest little guy! He’s our youngest of 5 now so we are done 😂. Good luck on your worm farm! The one we created in this video is going strong and eating SO MUCH food! Our kids LOVE helping with them and I’m sure your granddaughter will too!
@@WhitepepperFarmshomestead that’s great! I have 5 grands and the 8 year old wrote that comment! We have been trying to find out the best place to order our worms! I guess we will order from Jim’s. New subscribers for sure! Thanks again!
😂 well that would be nice! Either way I will be using them myself so I will absolutely be making videos about it! Subscribers along the way would be a plus for sure!
Sorry I didn’t look at the dates. We are at the Modern Homesteading Conference in Coeur d Alene and there is so much going on I wasn’t paying attention. Worms look fun!
This video was so helpful and I want to say thank you for sharing!!! Also I know this I know this was made sometime ago, but still congrats on your new bundle of joy!❤
Thank you, I appreciate that! He is now almost a year and a half old, walking, trying to talk, and generally just causing chaos everywhere he goes and we love him 😂
I understand you capture the liquid runoff / leachate in the lid that is underneath the bin. Do you just lift off the bin and then pour it from the lid into a watering bucket?
Congratulations on the birth of your son! I have a few questions. 1) Does the food keep the compost moist or do you have to add water? 2)If your bin becomes full and you don't need the compost yet for your garden, can you store it in another container to use later, and if you can save, for how long? 3) Can these worms be fed to chickens?
Thank you, he’s just the best! Great questions! The food keeps the compost moist! No need for any extra moisture! If it becomes full you can harvest it and store it! I’ve seen two different ways of storing it, one would be those white bags used for sandbags and the other is actually just a burlap sack! Both of which are breathable so it doesn’t get moldy or anything inside, but I am unsure how long you can store for. I would imagine you could store for quite a while if stored in a cool dry place! I wouldn’t feed them chickens or any other kind of meat, just fruits and veggies!
Im just now educating myself on worm farms and i came across this video. One of the best and well explained by far. But what is the end results, how do you go about selling/harvesting worms and casting. What's the gain if there is any? (Coming from someone who doesnt have a garden and wants a small side hustle)
I use a 5 gallon bucket for my worm bin snd bury it in the flower bed. I get some gnats, but mostly worms, 2 or 3 leopard slugs, and some crickets. I go thru weeds and kitchen scraps in about 2 weeks I think. I kinda do it the lazy way and don't mess with it too much. My big concern is how it will do in the winter but I also didn't add any worms to my bin. I built it and the worms came.
I have a good idea, You could put a 2" plastic tube in the lower side of the tub ( plastic container ) and conect it with another tub on the side, once the worms have finished filling humus to the top the worms Will go through the 2" tube to their new Home tub for more food. Therefore You won't need to capture your worms.
Just started mine today! How's yours coming along? Any do's or dont's that you have learned since? I'll be filming our video on it and will give you a shoutout!
I have the same tote and you and unfortunately watched a couple other videos before finding this one today and I didnt know to drill the bottom of the bin. So would it be too stressing now to tilt the bin and drill holes. I fear that letting liquid sit on the bottom is cause alot more moisture to stay in the bin. Any suggestions?
With this setup the holes are mainly for drainage, but all we would need to do to change this to a double tote system would be to add another tote under the tote with holes. With the setup here the lid is mainly to catch anything coming out of the tote so it doesn’t go out onto the floor!
When I did this years ago i got TONS of babies...... if I scooped up some castings I’d get tons of babies........... I also got fungus ants no matter how well I kept it. I wish I could have got mine to work....it’s a great idea.... I may try again.....
So far we don’t have any fungus knats so hopefully I can keep it that way. Did you bury your food scraps in there?? I’ve been doing my best to keep it under the soil and so far we don’t have any. Who’s to say what happens a month from now though. So far so good and I’m loving it!
Why do you drill holes around the top of the bin, if you don't use the lid to cover it? Or do you use a second lid to enclose the top? Ah, okay. Never mind. I heard you at 13:00 explain that you use a second lid for the top.
Finally… This is what I was looking for
Perfect!
Just purchased 100 worms, thanks for the step by step and encouragement that I don't have to start with 1000.

Very informative and simple thanks

Thank you so much, this was so very helpful!
If you add more videos on vermicompost, I swear you will have lots of subscribers

Congratulations on the new baby 🎉 thanks for the worm tutorial!
Thank you! Little man is almost 1 now, but he’s still new to me 😂! Thank you for watching!!

I like that.
It’s been two weeks total and they are seriously doing some work in that bin, I love it!
i love how the subtitles say "[applause]" at 4:45 when you pour in the peat moss
I need to go look at this 😂. They are automatically added and that is amazing.

I’ve heard of bins like that and it’s always interested me! That definitely sounds like an awesome way to go for sure!
So you mean you didn't buy the spacial worms? What I heard is the normal ear5h worms are not good fir this job !
that dog cracked me up.I will have to try that.
Do you have a video for harvesting worm castings?
Congratulations on the birth of your son!
Hey thanks! He’s been an amazing baby, slept all night last night, woooo!!!!

What do you do with the worms?
Just started mine today! How's yours coming along?
Any do's or dont's that you have learned since? I'll be filming our video on it and will give you a shoutout!
What can we use for the base if we don’t have compost yet???

So would it be too stressing now to tilt the bin and drill holes. I fear that letting liquid sit on the bottom is cause alot more moisture to stay in the bin. Any suggestions?
If you drill holes in the bottom for the worms to pass through, how does that work with the lid at the bottom?
With this setup the holes are mainly for drainage, but all we would need to do to change this to a double tote system would be to add another tote under the tote with holes. With the setup here the lid is mainly to catch anything coming out of the tote so it doesn’t go out onto the floor!
How do you prevent the worms from escaping?
Do your worms ever escape and go through the bottom holes and end up in the leche?
Can I not put the burlap in the worm compost bin. Instead I just put a lid on it. Not a burlap.
Do you ever add water? I missed that.
I usually save my veggie scraps and make veggie broth. Could I add cooked vegetables to this?
Yes you can

So I can’t put my leftovers that went bad in the compost. Just vegetables?

😂 yep! Do you have any more questions though? Does it make sense how it all works?
Lol I know the feeling when the battery died. 😂
What’s been going on with the worms? I haven’t seen any updates since this one
No grit??
We used compost for the grit!
Lechate is not supposed to be used in the garden.
>kokoko
Do you have problem with ants?
Not too be mean, but you need to learn to focus your camera dude
If you’re going to post critiques, there’s something for you to learn as well - when to use ‘to’ and when to use ‘too.’
