I think it might be a mix of both lapis and emeralds. Rubies are used as like 'enchantment currency' here, and by the way the ruby counter is placed above the hot-bar like other games, it would be safe to assume it's also a normal currency for trading as well. Whelp, we'll all find out when the server is released I guess?
