I adored Di Stefano. I heard him sing Tosti songs at the Opera in Nice in 1988 when the Cercle De Musique Mediterraneen was celebrating its anniversary. He announced 'The great voice is gone, but i am going to share music with you' and he did. He broke all the rules of singing perhaps on that occasion, but how he phrased and brought tears to our eyes with the music and the text. A really wonderful artist and a great heart.
I only wish I could have been in that audience that night to see him, be near him. I have the greatest love and respect for this great artist. This night, past his prime, he sang his heart out and got stronger as the evening progressed. Pavarotti said "this is the tenor that make me fight with my father", a big Gigli fan. Said Luciano, "I like him more" Bravo Pavarotti and riposa in pace the two of them. The world is not as sweet w/o you both.

After two surgeries in Mombasa, Di Stefano was flown to the San Raffaele clinic at Milan in December 2004, where he slipped into a coma.[7] Eventually he awakened from coma, but his health never fully improved He died in his home in Santa Maria Hoè, north of Milan, on 3 March 2008 at the age of 86. Piccola precisazione, Di Stefano non é microfonato ... oggi chi canta se non é in teatro d'opera dove l'acustica é studiata per il canto, viene regolarmente microfonato !!!E non accomoda le vocali per facilitare gli acuti ... questa é alta scuola e classe interpretativa... insomma non fa il furbo come la maggior parte dei tenori odierni

Certamente una bella voce ma male amministrata. Una tecnica vocale pericolosissima i suoni tutti aperti e di gola e purtroppo in età più avanzata con esibizioni poco piacevoli all ascolto. Un canto troppo a squarciagola finché si è giovani e la forza fisica aiuta ma con l età solo la tecnica consente una longevità vocale. Esempio grandissimo Alfredo Kraus

Even when he's less than perfect he's still superb! Beaten into a coma at his villa in Kenya in 2004. He died 4 years later in Italy. Sad!!!!

As I love Pippo, now the voice is totally damaged, it is sad, but still it is cool to see him trying.
