@@jazminehernandez7280 No doubt! I'm finding that by absorbing Dilla's artistry, it's increasing my inner ear in listening to other music. The scope of the arrangements and the power of emotion and simplicity.

How can a beat elicit so much emotion and love? Sometimes when I listen to dilla all I can do is tear up in realizing how much time and effort he put into making music that reflected the beauty of the human experience. The only producer I know who’s quality and quantity were in perfect harmony. Long live dilla

im pretty blitzed right now analyzing this beat..thought id comment on the pattern of the background snare rolls in the beat, such sophisticated programming
I first heard this beat on J Rocc’s “Thank You J Dee Act 1”. For a lack of a better word, I’m still amazed by the “organic” feel of this track. It voluptuously wraps around you like you’re in a womb feeling your body beat and grow...
I just love this beat! As much as the Donuts/Motown era of his career impresses me--especially technically--this late-Ummah Jay Dee era always has me coming back thirsting for more. I honestly think he truly mastered the art of making beats on the MPC at this stage of his career. He was perhaps even bored of how effortless it was to him at this phase; his transition into the Ruff Draft /J Dilla era soon followed. There's a lot to admire in that: imagine being so good at something that it tires you from how easy it is. Many people would lean on that mastery. Not Dilla.
I just hit the dislike - because of that idiotic fade out every minute or so. If you want to extend this beautiful beat at 14 minutes do this shit right.

someone tell me what the main instrument on this is, that sound is just so unique to dilla, never hear anyone actually talk about this, its the same thing used in his track soul vibe i think?
It kind of sounds like a low-passed square(ish?) synth with some resonance on the opening and beginning of the descent of the filter The way you voice your chords can do alot for the sound of a synth though, I'm not quite sure I told you anything you don't know yet but perhaps! A bit more of a specific example of how I try making sounds like these: I like using fl studio's harmor for this sort of stuff because the filter is amazing to me, try going with alot of the ''double cone'' resonance type and set the width almost all the way to the right and then find the sweetspot in the offset! I use that for many kinds of sounds, since Harmor can resample you could also load a synth from somewhere else or a rhodes in there for example. I also use the unison with 0 pitch and 0 pan to play with the harmonics through the phase slider, then the harmonizer can do a great job of bringing out those harmonics more, and add new ones that fit!
Also, shaping your own resonance curves and modulating the offset can make for some very, very nice sounds! I use this technique so much for deep dubstep synths
Every now and again I stumbled across a Dilla beat that I've never heard before..it's a beautiful thing

This is one of my favorite Dilla beats, but there's also something unsettling about it... I don't know how to explain it
Organized Chaos I get you. It’s got a certain type of melancholy. Slightly haunting. But that’s Dilla. Playing with your emotions like no other.
I just want to sit and think to j dilla beats forever, as the world around me just drifts away. Thanks for the 15 min uploads my man 🖒
