  • This is Emily, she's been learning to drive for around 2 months. she's done 25hours of driving so far, she's got a test booked in a weeks time.
    Emily generally drives really well, but sometimes when she thinks she's made a mistake. She starts to overthink about her driving which sometimes results in her actually making a bigger fault.
    In this mock test we cover major crossroad with slips roads and roundabouts.

    I don't get how some faults are only counted as serious when other people are around (like the signaling when moving around an obstacle at junctions, or the stopping for a traffic light that's not for you). To me, it would be much more logical if the fault is serious or not depending on the implications it _could_ have, rather then the ones it has in the current situation. I mean, you wouldn't not count driving through red as a serious fault purely 'cause nobody was affected by it, right? So why do these certain ones depend on if it currently had an effect on others?

    • @ClearviewDriving
      @ClearviewDriving  3 года назад

      That traffic light just a repeat traffic lights for the vehicle in the distance
      You would only need to stop at a traffic lights that had a solid line underneath.

    • @keith6400
      @keith6400 3 года назад

      Whenever you turn at a traffic light controlled junction there will be a set "for the other group/s of traffic" around the corner. Whenever you see traffic lights you do need to look for stop lines relevant to that light. The most difficult lights to sort out are a huge roundabouts where lights are placed at extremely random places and all traffic is going a bit faster.

    Same happened at 12:35 first gear yet call is rolling back?

    • @jassenjj
      @jassenjj 10 месяцев назад

      The road is slightly uphill and the car doesn't have hill assist or the angle is very small for it to engage. Either case, when you release the brakes and the engine is not engaged either by being on neutral or having the clutch pressed, you should always expect the car to start moving if the road is not flat.

  • @jazzyjazbtw

    In your experience where would you rather have a test for? Southall or Uxbridge.
    Right now I have mine booked for first week December at Southall and not sure if I should get Uxbridge instead
    or should I just focus on being a good confident driver and not worry too much about it haha

    • @ClearviewDriving

      Hey It depends what area your more familiar with. Southall has big roundabouts and dual carriageways upt to 50mph and then Uxbridge it goes upto 70mph.
      As long as you get practice in the area and get familiar with the roads, either test centre is good. Good luck with your test :)

      @@ClearviewDriving i have watched it... thanks 😊.. have you done any yard practice videos?.. parallel parking 3 point turn etc?... in my country for the test you first do.. reversing between drums.. parallel parking.. hillstart.. 3 point turn in the yard then from there you drive out n do city driving for about 20mins... so sometimes you can fail within minutes of the test because the yard attempts are what give the people headaches🙈

  • @dcoyle684

    My instructor didn’t give me a straight answer so if you do the reverse parallel park wrong (for example finish too wide to the kerb) can you go back to the start and align with the car you did it against and start again, and pass? (Ie would that be a fail or a minor?)

    • @ClearviewDriving

      Hey yes you can but that would be to long.

    • @ClearviewDriving
      @ClearviewDriving  2 года назад +2

      Most new cars when you stall the engine, pressing the clutch down will restart it straight away
      As a good habit when you stall, press brake and clutch and then try moving off normally again
      You don’t need to apply the handbrake (this is what they used to teach years back) it’s not necessary anymore

    First and last five minutes are key times on test. Start a little cautiously for one or two junctions, then get your normal game going. When you think you are near the end, get your concentration going and buck up as people tend to slack off thinking it's all in the bag or gone to pot.

  • @keith6400
    @keith6400 3 года назад +41

    At 32:00 she describes how she felt about the test which was after the first minor mistake near the start she kind of lost heart. After 28 minutes or three quarters of the way through a driving test she makes a serious error that would cause a fail. 28:35 she passes across an exit signalling left but does not exit there (serious fault). Within about one minute she wants to start on a red traffic light, serious fault 29:45. Another near serious fault follow immediately. . Her main problem is that as soon as she makes a mistake she continues with an analysis of it in her head. This is when you are not thinking about what's happening now and what's coming up next. If you realise you made a mistake on test, forget the incident it may be marked minor.

    I lost count of the number of my students who failed a mock test and passed the real one with flying colours. Mock tests are really useful for giving learners a 'feel' for the real thing, and because they're nervous about a novel experience, it's perfectly normal to mess things up first time round. The DSA (DVSA?) can say what they like: we all know nerves play a part on the day, and it's always best to get the bugs out of the system beforehand. I'm sure Emily will do just fine, and very best of luck to her.

    I would recommend to put the car in neutral when waiting for green to take place.. Why would someone be waiting with its foot on the clutch in gear for like a minute

    • @ClearviewDriving
      @ClearviewDriving  2 года назад

      New drivers feel rushed to put the clutch down. Go into 1st gear and then move off
      But overtime they will get more confident and we add that in

    Is it wrong to signal first than check mirrors? I usually do that

    • @ClearviewDriving
      @ClearviewDriving  2 года назад

      You should always use mirrors and signal accordingly
      You will get marked down for this if someone is affected with your signal (if a cyclist or motorbike is overtaking and you signal and don’t check first)

    • @TahirAmeenGaming

      @@ClearviewDriving but I'm still checking like instantly when signalling, I'm from Africa and was taught this way but I see in Europe they mirror first then signal. I don't see how it makes any difference you're still checking.

      @@TahirAmeenGaming it’s only if someone is affected it would be an issue. If you’re regularly checking mirrors, then it won’t be an issue.

  • @john1703

    I was taught that when stationary the gearbox should be in neutral and the handbrake engaged. Sitting with feet on brakes and clutch, might result in jumping forward if you were rear-ended. You should avoid stopping abreast of a large parked vehicle, since it partially blocks the road. Should you be signalling left whilst stationary in a left turn only lane? If you think that you might be hit by a truck, let it go, else you will come off worst. Shut up and concentrate on the road! With that opportunity, I would pull forward into the next parking space, since it saves reversing out later.

    I have only recently just passed my test after procrastinating over doing it for 20 years 6 lessons in like 2001, 6 in 2019 etc then finally done it this year some how managed to pass with about 30 lessons overall not sure how. But I have been saying if you have a driving test examiner in your vehicle while you drive without you knowing what they do I seriously think a lot of people would fail due to how bad they drive after they pass.

    At 15:20 when Emily stalled the engine I was surprised that it could actually be considered a major fault. In my country instructors always keep repeating that stalling the engine is not counted during the test... Well, except for one unlucky girl from my group of people for the test who stalled the engine 6 times in a row because at the very beginning of her test she had to exit a parking with just a slightly uphill exit.

    • @Jac70
      @Jac70 9 месяцев назад +1

      Stalling isn't an issue. The fault would be causing another driver to change speed or direction which can be considered a serious fault. It would be very harsh in this situation though IMO. First, whoever beeped was an idiot! Beeping a learner for pulling away a little bit slow!? Plus she recovered almost instantly.

    • @jassenjj
      @jassenjj 9 месяцев назад

      @@Jac70 Drivers beeping at the learning car looks bad, but it actually trains you to stay focused, to know your rights and to be able to recover knowing that you've made a mistake.
