Thank you Rolf, much appreciated! Yup, sounds like your bike needs to get finished up this winter for next summer! Get on it brother, 3 hrs a week, just do it!!!! Cheers
Nice build! It has the the look that a lot of builds are missing! Nice job. I thought I was already recognizing the rear fork when you had you're first walk towards the bike. I am still working on my bike(for over 10 years now, house-study-house-child-divorce-new house stuff). But at the time I got my xs(when I was 19) I was also owning a dr400s('82 I believe), witch was my daily ride. And had some spare parts to that.. Including the rear forks, witch perfectly fit the xs indeed! So that fork is in there for over 10 years now. But unfortunately never ran so far.. Thanx for the inspiration for the rest! As soon as my 3rd house is finished I will finish the bike! Cheers
Good build. Fitted a Peston Petty guard to a 78 RM125. Didn't look quite right, cut mine, there's marks inside so was easy. A lot happy with fender shape.👍
Beautiful bike, really well done ,excellent mix & Mach ,she looks like it’s going to be fun kicking her over to start I bet she’s really fun to ride power to you man 🇦🇺🇺🇸☮️👍🏴☠️
Thank you very much! I have a couple of hours of break-in time on the bike now and I'm looking forward to racing it for the first time later this month! Cheers
@@huntercobb9881 The xs650 engines are incredibly heavy, even heavier than vintage Triumph twins and other similar twins of that era. The xs frames are very heavy tubing as well, which all makes for a very heavy bike. It absolutely rips on the straightaways (will easily keep up with a modern 450) but plows some in the corners, especially if the track is very loose and dry. It's very similar to riding a late 60's Triumph twin.
Fantastic. I am starting a build that is very similar to yours. I am sure I am going to have to source some of the same parts. I would love to make a mono shock suspension or maybe a three wheeler out of mine.
Hey thanks! The tank on this is from a 1978 yz250. They are fairly easy to come by in decent shape and the size was just what I was looking for. Cheers
Went to Barbers in Birmingham for a weekend to watch a buddy race the Hare Scrambles AHRMA It was so awesome that i want to do it next year, but want to build a bike for it. I dont really understand if a bike like this is legal in an AHRMA event since the XS650 was not originally in a motorcross frame....does anyone know if there are issues with doing a bike like this for competition AHRMA? Is it legal?
Hello, yes these absolutely qualify to run in ahrma races, I've raced against several of them. As for the exact class they qualify for you'll need to contact your regional ahrma rep. I believe they just ran in the twin class, but they lump several classes together to fill the start line so I'm not positive.
@@lifebehindbarz60 Great to hear and thank You for the reply 👍 I am gonna get ahold of that region for details. Really enjoyed what you did with your build and looking for one now, myself. 😊
You can see how much heart you put into this bike...very nice bike
Nailed the old crosser look! Impressive build 👌👍
Thanks!

Beautiful build love the bike!
Great dessert scrambles bike - just needs a bigger tank!
Nice work TOM. I just picked up a 1975 XS650 already purposed for AHRMA. Don in Empire, Co.

Very well done.
Love wish you were here
Very nice build, make a video of the bike on the track

Thanks John, have fun with your project, I vote for a monoshock!
@@lifebehindbarz60 Hopefully a three wheeler with a West Coast swingarm and a monoshock.
Thanks brother, the vintage mx season starts in 4 weeks!
Nice job and thanks for al the insights...now build me one I've got cash.
I can do that, but it will have to be in the spring, I'm up to my ears in builds right now! Cheers, Tom
@@lifebehindbarz60 Not sure how to get in touch with you about price cost etc?
Thank you, will do!

The shape even looks like a DG swingarm
Great work. What tank are you using on it? I have a 79 and I’m looking to put something smaller on it.
Nice! How did you mount the rear brake stay? Also did you have to drill out the rear axle slots to accept stock 20mm axle?
Hi Don, did you pick up that nice one that was on CL a couple weeks ago in Denver? It looked like a nice bike!
